Does 1 Loss End ND's Playoff Hopes?

I've bolded the games I see the teams ranked ahead of us losing. Auburn, Miss State and Ole Miss will each go down. As much as I hate pO$U I might have to root for them over Sparty but I don't see it happening.

So that means you'll have Bama and Ole Miss with one loss out of the SEC West, correct? Ole Miss has the victory of the former so that's the tie-breaker. Are you assuming Ole Miss vs GA for the SEC Champ? Winner goes to the playoffs?

In that scenario I have no doubt Bama, right or wrong would take a spot also...

This is my top ten as of the last weekend.

1. Mississippi State (best résumé, top dog of SEC West)

2. FSU (Jameis is best player in CFB, with elite weapons)

3. Ole Miss (beat Bama and undefeated)

4. Alabama/Notre Dame (ND has best loss, Bama has second best)

6. TCU (like ND they should be undefeated, defense and Boykin make them more dangerous than other tempo teams, see no. 7s)

7. Oregon/Auburn (the best of other tempo teams, defense and future schedules are liabilities, have worse losses than teams in front of them)

9. Kansas State (a little luck helps, but a few uncommon errors lead to only loss against the little Bama Tigers, Snyder is not a man you want to play with flaws)

10. Michigan State (Sparty is the only B1G team that looks like a vintage Big Ten team, defense, offensive line, add in Cook and Lippett and you have a recipe for "upsets")

Outside looking in:
Georgia (Gurley returns? SEC East's only above average team)
Ohio State (coming together with improved play at QB and athleticsim, I hate Urbie as much as the next guy but the Buckeyes are proving dangerous)

It becomes a bit of a circular firing squad down there. I could see that tiebreaker happening but I can't see Bama being left out of the Final 4 if they win out even though they wouldn't be going to their own league championship game. Wouldn't it just be unbelievable that they would stand to gain by not playing in the $EC title game.

I'm hoping that even if 2 $EC teams and Free Seafood U get in, ND will join them by winning out and having better SOS from here out than Sparty and Oregon. Perhaps Oregon loses the PAC Champ 12 game which would make them a non factor regardless.

Have I mentioned how much I hate the Criminoles?

Even if, in that scenario, GA wins the SEC Champ? If so, you're saying:

SEC Champ: Georgia (one loss)
SEC Runner-Up: Ole Miss (two losses)
SEC West Runner-Up: Alabama (one loss)

GA and Bama get in, in your opinion?

I personally think that for the SEC to get two teams in the playoffs, someone from the West needs at most one-loss, including the championship game. Its not impossible for for some crazy combination of wins and losses to occur leaving Miss St with one loss and Bama with one loss and Ole Miss with one loss. Someone will go to the conference champ and if they win, they'll be in for sure. But what about the other SEC W teams with potentially one loss? I'm not as sold as some others that the playoffs will have one and only one SEC team.

Yeah I see it as pretty hard to leave Bama out (not that i agree with it), I think UGA and Bama get in there... again, not saying I think it should be, just that I think it would be. I'd guess UGA and Bama get in while Ole Miss watches from home.

Saw that. Said he'd take ND in a rematch as well.
All of this ESPN love (after a loss!) feels weird and I don't know how to process it. I'm used to a legion of back handed compliments after wins and then a sea of "I told ya so" after a loss.

They got great ratings on Saturday and are looking to score again if possible...

IMO Georgia winning the SEC Championship with one loss would kill our hopes, regardless of what Michigan State and Oregon do. The SEC West champ will most definitely be in I believe. Georgia winning the SEC East would seal two SEC teams in.

Ok guys I've got FSU running the table so that's one spot, then the SEC winner is another, then I have Oregon as a 1 loss team then that leaves a battle for the last spot and if ND is a one loss team and all those other SEC 1 loss teams get a second loss and then Michigan St drops a game then I think its safe to say ND will be in the top 4.

I'm rooting for Mississippi State or Ole Miss to win out. That would mean Alabama/Auburn and Mississippi State/Ole Miss would have another loss. An undefeated SEC team just hands out more losses.

Can a one loss MSU or OSU beat out a 1 loss ND team?

Yes. We're going to be behind a 1-loss FSU team IMO. If they're going to be ahead of us, we want them #1 and 13-0 I think.

I want FSU to drop one just to hear Seminole fans argue that head-to-head results should be the deciding factor.

Ok. This weekend be a huge LSU fan, they play Ole Miss. When Ole Miss plays Auburn be an Ole Miss fan. When BAMA plays Auburn (Lord forgive us) be an auburn fan. And in the Egg bowl cheer for MissSt. With all this you want MissSt wining SEC CG. ND wins out and above happens ND is in.

As bad as it sounds I'll be rooting for OSU when they play MSU in a couple weeks and then more than likely they'll play each other in the B1G Championship where I'll be rooting for MSU. I just can't see a B1G team getting on over ND. And I seriously hope this lights a bigger fire under our guys and we put up 50+ points on everyone!

Probably need USC to look really good the rest of the way to make that final game as big as possible. Could very easily be a "play-in" game for ND, similar to 2012.

They are all play in games from here on. We win we stay in the hunt and let everyone ahead of us kill each other off.

Right, but the perception of better wins will be just as big as anyone ahead of us losing. We are fortunate to have a lot of solid games left to play to make an impression on the committee.

This is actually a really harmful narrative for us.
FSU has only played three decent teams and went down to the wire with each. If the idea starts to creep in that they're not actually all that good? Well, then, what exactly did we accomplish on Saturday besides lose to a team that would be "fifth or sixth in the SEC."
We need FSU to roll heavy the rest of the season and win out in absurd fashion. That's the only way we beat out a one-loss Oregon/B1G/Big-12 champ for the fourth slot (assuming FSU and two SEC teams here). In a battle of one-loss teams, we'd have the best loss, and hopefully a few impressive wins in ASU, USC and (I still hold hope for) Stanford. But right now, the best loss is our best card.
Much as it pains me to say this, we ought to jump on the "Winston for Heisman" bandwagon, because it's better to give a guy his Heisman moment (he was pretty brilliant in the second half) and ride his coattails into a playoff rematch than have them get upset by some rando team like Virginia and then lose out on SOS to Oregon or Michigan State. It sucks but at this point I think we're all in on Florida State. Get that arm ready for some Tomahawk Chop-ping.

Or lose twice. If they lose twice, we jump them. If they win out they help us jump others.

Depending on the positions we could jump them on their first loss. There are countless examples of polls having teams arranged with no weight given to head to head match ups.
