Has to go good with running back recruits. Though sometimes I think 3 is to many.

Tyree has not shown anything to say he’ll be better in the slot than at RB. He’s a RB. I actually think he’d be worse at WR, his hands aren’t exceptional out of the backfield already, doesn’t seem to naturally have a sense for spacing and isn’t that fluid. He can take the ball and run straight fast. Label it whatever position, it’s RB to me. Beginning of the season when he was bulked up he was running better between the tackles, probably didn’t have staying power as the season as gone on.

He is much better between the tackles than people thought he would be, however, that isn't going to peel carries away from Diggs and Estime who are really, really good between the tackles.

Tyree should go to Louisville and start for Lance Taylor

As much as I like that fit for him, Louisville is on the schedule for next season. I don’t think Freeman will block any player from transferring to any program they so choose, but… watch Tyree transfer to Louisville then rush for 100 yards and two touchdowns against ND next year.

I disagree. Tyree has shown to be good as a receiver, he was very effective there in the Fiesta Bowl and at times this season. He doesn't have the bulk that Estime and Diggs have to run between the Tackles so he seems to struggle there. He's best when he's in space, which is why a move to Slot could be beneficial for him. Get him the ball and put him in matchups against LBs and Safeties. That's where his speed is best served.

He caught screen passes out of the backfield without a Ok St defender within camera view, doesn’t really reflect any ability as a WR. Even we’re asking him to do the same next year but calling that playing WR, it’s just switching labels. He’s best in space but he’s never shown an ability to find that space on his own, which is what a slot WR does so well usually. Finding space in a phone booth. Tyree capitalizes on space you could drive a truck through.

Can coaches still block players from transferring?

For the good of his potential NFL career, he should probably move to slot. At least show he can do both or showcase his receiving chops to show he can be a passing back.

I don’t expect him back but would be thrilled if he came back as a returner/slot.

I don't know what to tell ya. Tyree is 3rd in YPC and barely ahead of Drew in that category, but he's also 3rd in receptions on the team. Some of that is screens, but we don't run that many. He's catching balls in the flat and he's had occasional wheel routes. I'm sure we still run him between Tackles to keep defenses honest when he is in the backfield, but it's obvious he doesn't really excel there. Right now Diggs and Estime are pulling away as the feature backs. If we're serious about keeping Tyree engaged and a productive member of the offense a move to the Slot could be beneficial. I think either Golden and/or Riddick spent time at both positions and it made them more versatile. I see Tyree similar to those guys in limited ways.

Tyree will have to move next year if Jadarian has a full recovery. Remember, there were rumblings that JD Price was going to be our starter or competing for starter snaps. With an achilles injury, there is a major pause on all of that but if he returns to his pre-injury form he'll be earning snaps over Tyree.

Tyree in the slot could be very valuable but he'd need to make that move in the spring to get enough reps.

I just have a very hard time seeing Tyree beat out JD Price, Diggs and Estime. Then add Payne, Edwards, Limar and Love to the competition and at least one of them will likely break through and earn some plays.

That's assuming we keep all of them in the fold.

Tyree as a slot WR versus Tyree as a RB:

Yea I think everyone Pre-season thought Tyree was going to be a focal point of the offense. He has not played slot that much either.

Tyree having more yards on less touches than Diggs is not what I expected.
Agree. I kept looking at the numbers thinking I was missing something. Tyree's productivity has been quietly impressive.

149 of those yards are from returns. So it's not quite apples to apples comparison.

That makes more sense. I was thinking total touches/all purposes yards meaning running/passing. Didn't even consider return yards.
