They both suck. But you don’t have to shovel humidity.
Technically you don't have to shovel snow either

The Geaux247 board said Freeman is autonomous over the UC D and would expect the same at any destination, would he get that at LSU with a somewhat warm seated defensive coach in Ed O? Also that he got a large NFL offer so money wise has seen it dangled before. The post made me think he may ultimately decide to stay more than what was previously relayed, which I guess is better than LSU, even if it’s not ultimately ND.

I would rather shovel snow than board up for a hurricane

When it's 95 degrees, you can still do things outside: jump in a pool, sit in the shade, play sports and sweat to death.
When it's 0 degrees, you cannot do anything outside(don't say skiing, we're talking south bend not Colorado).
I'll take heat/humidity any day....
Cold is only good when skiing, skating, snowball fight, ice fishing, or days you want to Netflix and chill with your girl.... Nobody is skiing in SB, and I doubt many are skating or drilling a hole to fish in. Maybe a few snowball fights.....
Humidity, like Tequila, makes her clothes fall off.... A wise man named Joe Nichols once told me.
Didn't realize that Freeman and Mickens played High School ball together.
Freeman's final 4 as a recruit was Michigan, pOSU, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
Joe prefers weather to be Sunny and 75 though

Agreed.
But I totally get that the hot vs cold debate is ultimately up to the debater. Much like the breasts vs butt debate.
I'm a legs and azz guy (breasts aren't bad lol), but I think most athletes would prefer hot to cold. And most of the elite guys are from sunny places. Going to guess most coaches, regardless of where they are from, are the same. While they may have grown up in the N, or MW, there's a reason why folks move South typically, and not North.
My parents got flights to Naples and Savannah in the next couple months to look at winter homes. I feel betrayed.
I still have a 3BR timeshare there in one of the plantations on the point.
Thanks Beau, we can't tolerate that kinda crap around here. I know that tensions are high all around right now, but we just can't let stuff like that go unchallenged.
Guys...it turns out YJ was Koon's alternate account this whole timennnn
If we lose out on Freeman because we wouldn't pay, and end up with Elston, who I'm not convinced is this great asset just because he's loyal and likeable, it will feel like a major blow.
I hope Elston sticks around and hope he remains the DL coach, but if he left we'd be fine. We're too close to truly competing for it all to land in the middle. We need a big time DC the next 2-3 years.
We needed some exciting news here. Sounds like we are going to end up with dam near a whole new defensive staff. This could be setting the program back.

Isn’t a prevalent part of this versus years prior improvement in the trenches?
I really don't think there's any could be about it. It's happening. Somehow we went from a destination job to...this. Everyone said (pundits and fans alike) "It's a good thing Lea is leaving. It means the program is churning out successful results. Coaches will notice. Blah, blah, blah." Yeah, talk to me in another year or two when the offense finally catches up and the defense BLOWS again.

Which is probably why he said he hopes he sticks around as DL coach.
“Not convinced is this great asset”
“Just because he’s loyal and likable”
Those struck me as more disparaging his coaching ability.
If you take his post at face value, I think all he's saying is he's a good DL coach that would make for an underwhelming DC hire. I agree. ND deserves better.
He can speak for himself, but my assumption is he believes Elston is not irreplaceable. I tend to agree. If he was, he'd be the obvious choice to replace Lea and he wouldn't have been passed over for the role twice already. Think about that for a second. Notre Dame may very well hire a guy as defensive coordinator who Notre Dame itself didn't deem fit to do so two times within the last few years.“If he left we’d be fine”
Lol I get what you’re saying and agree with your own points, I don’t necessarily think the OP was crediting Elston much in terms of coaching ability

It's not like coaches cannot improve though. Learn new things. Master new crafts.

Not saying they can't, but the reality is if Elston is promoted it means we settled at the position. For all the talk of how this would be a destination job once Lea left and DCs would be lining up for an opportunity, for us to promote a guy who we have passed over twice will be a loss IMO, especially in terms of optics. Sure, we'll try to sell it as "continuity", but we all know what really happened. Another opportunity for the program to take a marked step upwards will have been thwarted by the admin. And everyone will blame BK...
