you could say same things about Bob Quinn but he did alright coaching a Joe Moore finalist OL this year

Jeff* Quinn

You could, but I'm less concerned about a coach at a position that recruits itself to this school. OL coach = / = DC.

Elston does have a rep as a good recruiter. My hope is that, if elevated, it gives him the influence to improve that area.

Everyone's worried we'll take a step back with Elston, but what do you have to base that upon? He hasn't had the chance to prove himself as the DC here. He may be terrific. When Elko was hired there was a lot of teeth gnashing because he was at WF and his teams gave up points. As it turned out, the talent had something to do with his success or lack of success at WF. Some worried about Lea's lack of DC experience. I have no idea if Elston would be a good DC or not, but the only way to tell is if he is given the chance.

Well, what I think it comes down too is, if you don’t get the guy or two you want, do you keep going down the list to get someone new, at the risk of losing Elston. Is it worth it to get Arnett, who I think is a wonderful young coach, if that means you’ll lose Elston elsewhere? That’s a pretty difficult position to be in.

oh i know, but someone who can coach and recruit at a high level...i just read about tenn is likely to fire him any day now and they have allegations

They have allegations so they don't have to pay him his buyout. If Tenn had a successful year I bet none of this would be coming out. At least that's the speculation.

And completely radioactive from ND's point of view.

Exactly. If they had to run Chip Long off, Pruitt wouldn’t last a week. Kids at SEC schools, for the most part, will put up w/ the tyrants & negative feedback coaches. ND kids respond better to the intellectuals or at least the ones who aren't’ straight out of our childhood when coaches could get away w/ saying anything. Not saying it’s right or wrong but just like recruiting specific types of players, ND has to recruit specific types of coaches. I think MOST coaches today could adjust fine but the Chip Longs, Jeremy Pruitts, Bret Muschamps, etc would not.

Right. It was likely UT alums that reported the violations...LOL

How is Tennessee liking Greg Schiano right about now? Dumbasses.

I don't understand how some ND fans think they're going to be the highest bidder in these situations, especially against SEC schools. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I want the highest paid DC on my payroll to begin with. It guarantees you nothing.

It will be funny as hell if they united to run off Schiano and now greet Hugh Freeze as their liberator.

If we lose our entire defensive staff, I hope we bring in Robert Steeples has our DB coach

I only watched this because my wife did.

The HC ended up being a piece of work. Lived a double life and had two different families at the same time. Alas, he had to leave Hoover, but of course he got another job. And of course he built a strong program there.
