I'll rest easy when Bo Pelini gets hired somewhere else so ND isn't an option..

Kevin Steele would be interesting

Steele’s defenses at the Barn have slipped the last few years. Plus, do you really want a DC on your staff that colluded will boosters to get the HC fired so he could step in as HC? I wouldn’t.

Certainly not a great look. However, he likely isn't staying at Auburn., He runs our current 4-2-5. I can certainly see why he'd get an interview at least.

3T, how would you feel about Will Muschamp?

I'd find it both exciting and risky.

I feel like in terms of recruiting and schematics, he's a slam dunk. But in terms of fit and ego, he may not mesh with the culture and might not be down with the whole collaboration motif that Kelly is going for.

I like Will as a recruiter and DC. His guys seemed to play hard for him when he was in that role. Don't believe he would be a good fit at ND though. He makes BK's former purple face look like Santa Claus at the mall.

Would Charlie Strong be a candidate? Currently an analyst at Bama.

Please, Lord, do not allow that re-tread anywhere near our university again. He can analyze all he wants for other schools, but his ship has sailed as a coach.

Again?

Or at least, isn't that what's rumored for Bob Davie

Our DC search can start and end with Marcus Freeman. I'd be fine starting him at or above where Lea ended. My Lord what a disciplined team that plays with attitude.

Freeman is about to have a bidding war at his feet. Auburn, LSU, possibly Florida all have boosters probably already on the phones saying they want that

There’s no way ND admin will allow us to win Freeman. Some other school will pay the man what ND won’t.

Then Kelly needs to tell the admin to put up or shut up. We have the money and even if we didn't, we could probably raise it in a week. If we ever want to compete for a national championship, we can't be holding ourselves back on areas like these where we have the resources and it doesn't effect the ND mission.

Yea, Freeman is going to be a wanted man. We’ll see what ND is willing or wanting to do.

The thing that gives me hope for Freeman is that this is Kelly and Swarbrick’s last hurrah. They have probably 4 years left to win a title. Need to start bringing in the dudes now.

I mean, that's what happens with coordinators.

Aranda was at LSU for a while, Elko will be at aTm for a while there are plenty of examples of guys staying longer but freeman is on the trajectory where you’d only get him for 1 year maybe 2

Anyone still want a scheme guy? Give me the stud recruiter every day of the week. Jimmy’s are getting shimmied and the joes are too slow. Doesn’t matter what your X’s and O’s say.

You can waste elite talent but you can’t win championships without it.

Yes, I still want a guy that develops and coaches up talent. Today has nothing do with the insane abundance of examples where talent is squandered in college football.

Did you watch UGA barely beat Cincy. They recruit in a different universe than Cincy does. How about NW beat Auburn by two scores. Another example where they don’t recruit in the same zip code.

Great players probably want to play for a guy with a good scheme lol. But yeah I get what you are saying.

Yeah if ND has a great scheme they will bring in great players. This isn't a situation like Leach at Tech or WSU getting table scraps regardless of scheme success. If ND has a baller scheme, they'll have no shortage of elite talent asking for a chance to play for 'em.

I get it. But. You literally cannot win a championship without elite players. Impossible. So that needs to be first priority.
