olt isn't as important as he used to be imo. murphy/valbuena is sustainable for the time being.

cubs are going to eventually have to make a splash in free agency in order to compete fo a championship.3rd base can be filled that way. although id prefer it to be pitching.

Kris Bryant will be the eventual franchise 3rd basemen, dude can stroke. If they need to make a splash it's gotta be bullpen, IMO. Cubs haven't had a solid bullpen in years.

Not trying to troll, as my previous posts would suggest, but just wanted to give you guys my thoughts as a Cards fan.

The Cardinals have been winners my entire life. Since I started watching baseball with my Grandfather as a little kid. While some years we did it with names like Ozzie Smith, Pujols and Edmonds. Most years we did it with guys like Lankford and Molina.

My point is that a star coach or buying stud free agents (we've seen them try) isn't going to change the culture of the team. I thought Epstein would be a good start and maybe his experience changing the "loveable loser" culture in Boston will come to fruition in the future. But I truly feel that until Wrigley isn't packed with drunk frat girls in pink cubbies hats you will see the same results.

- Accountability from top to bottom
- Veteran players that know what winning feels like
- Ownership that demands excellence from play on the field, down to how players view success.
- Proven organizational structure

Good luck on your search, fellas.

while i agree with yo, all big time teams use free agency (matt holiday, Carlos beltran) but the key is what you said after. changing the culture. the culture needs to change first.

re: blueNDGold44- i am not one of them but may see bryant in outfield when he hits majors.

I agree, Barney has a great glove but if he can't hit at least .250 it might be time for a change of scenery.

I agree to a certain extent, Wooly. But at the same time, I believe, the Cards won with a combination of good moves by Jocketty and the best pitching coach I've ever seen in Dave Duncan.

Epstein has to bring in some good free agents and bring up some good prospects but a good pitching coach is so undervalued. Duncan resurrected Chris Carpenter and Matt Morris after injury. He got the best out of Woody Williams, Daryl Kile, and Jake Westbrook. And he got Kyle Lohse, Joel Pineiro, and Jeff Suppan HUGE paydays only to see them flop after leaving the Cards.

If the Chubs are serious about contending for years, they need to find a manager who can bring in a pitching guru. They also need to spend smart like Jocketty did during the 2000s.

That's a lot to pull off. It can be done though.

I would love to see Alcantara and Baez win a job out of spring training and maybe some younger P's finding a spot in the bullpen. Long time till then though haha

I don't think they spend much money unless they feel they can be competitive next season.

Cards fans, same old argument. We get it, you root for a team who has a track record of greatness. I'm a cubs fan at heart but love baseball, any who i went to a cards/reds game this last season and i saw more cubs suck t shirts than i did anything else. And they weren't even playing the cubs, how does that make any sense? Every team has its ignorant fans yet the cubs seem to get bashed for it a little more than most

Well with Girardi no longer an option where do you guys think the Cubs go?

I'm thinking Manny Acta, supposedly had a very good interview. Or AJ Hinch simply because he's spent a lot of his career in player development and scouting.

Who knows man. I'm just glad to watch great playoff baseball anymore. Being a Cubs fan is brutal.

By the way, Kris Bryant is dominating the Arizona Fall League...this guy is going to be a stud. Went 3-for-6 yesterday and hit a 1st inning HR today

Makes about as much sense as ND fans constantly saying "muck fishigan", "scUM" and "skunkbears" constantly outside of Michigan week.

Alright last post but in the 5th inning the Cubs trio of Almora-Soler-Bryant is 7-for-9 (both outs are line outs by Soler) with 2 HR's, 3 2B's, 1 BB, and 9 RBI's

IF the Cardinals were actually still owned the Busch family, yeah. Since they are not.....

I guess... they only owned the team for like half a century and THREE Cardinals ballparks have been known as Busch Stadium, either officially or otherwise... including their current home...

but okay.

Also opted out of their current contract with WGN. WGN has 30 days to come up with a new much more lucrative offer or the Cubs will shop it to other networks and/or create their own.

Okay. No strong feeling on this one. If he wins, I like him. Actually, if Castro gets back on track, I like him.
