I am pretty sure I remember Barrett Jones saying after 45 days of film and practice they knew what we were doing when we lined up. I know they had great talent, but they schemed the crap out of us for that game and physically beat us as well. Methinks that's why BK&Co. were with the Patriots this summer (trying to hide tendencies or add wrinkles).
I watched a good film on Alabama's secondary last year and they showed how the secondary shifted/adjusted an average of 2-3 times prior to each snap based on what opposing team/QB was doing in their sets with checks.
They definitely have talent, but scheming is top notch in college football. I will give Saban all the credit in the world for that.
Statement
Rees will have more passing yards and touchdowns than Johnny Football....

Offense will be better than the defense this year.
We definitely had limitations. Conversely I am so proud of our boys for doing what they did all season. Every game was a lesson and execution in not giving up and finding ways to win. That is character building stuff and the freshmen experienced it in their first year.I agree 100% and I think it was a good lesson for BK. However, I do think ND was limited in a variety of ways and was "predictable" due to these issues.
Sorry....Shembo has done NOTHING to show anyone that he's "elite" yet.
Not saying he can't be...but anyone calling him that now is outta their minds.
The only "elite" talent we have on the entire D side of the ball is Tuitt and Nix. Everyone else is "good" or "average". And we're a great UNIT, and that's what's important
I think your definition was more like first round talent today, in which case I agree. If you expand it to future NFL draft picks, all seven rounds. How do you feel about it? I know a lot of projection goes into that but isn't that the point of killing a month waiting for the season to start? We have some data to work off of and to say only two people on our line or front seven will be NFL draft picks is equally absurd.
But I agree that Shembo being a first round pick would be a statement worthy of this thread. Shembo is projected a fourth rounder and I see no reason to think his production will be worse this year. If anything it should be better with a more seasoned and skilled line working around him.
Shembo will be the next Cliff Avril.
I'd say more elite for college than pro since he may be a bit under sized for the next level.
Day has more sacks then Tuitt.
Elvis Dumervil - 5' 11", 260 lbs
Larry Izzo - 5' 10", 225 lbs
Ray Lewis - 6' 1", 240 lbs
Zach Thomas - 5' 11", 242 lbs
Stephen Tulloch - 5' 11", 240 lbs
All pass rushers at the NFL level...
Prince Shembo - - 6' 1.5", 258 lbs
Elvis Dumervil - 5' 11", 260 lbs
Larry Izzo - 5' 10", 225 lbs

So Prince will be better than Ray. I like. Pass the Kool Aid. And likely not to get caught up in a murder investigation.
No James Harrison comparisons?
10.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks last year, yes.

I think we have significant discrepancy between our interpretations of "elite". By what I think you defining, I agree. Only two are at that level today and only a few have the realistic potential to be there in the future.
However, when looking at the unit top to bottom, a vast majority have a good chance at being drafted somewhere. I don't see a time in the near future where a starter graduates and goes undrafted off either line, offense or defense.

LOL, Larry Izzo? You mean the special teams ace that finished his career with zero sacks? Ray Lewis and Zach Thomas as pass rushers? Geez, Wooly. I agree with your point that Shembo's size isn't a big concern at the next level, but you could have come up with some more reasonable examples than Izzo, Lewis and Thomas.
No ****....Just terrible
None of those guys were "pass rushers".
d!ck
I didn't say that they were all great pass rushers, just that they were pass rushers. At a point in all of their careers they had pass rushing duties. Furthermore, that wasn't even my point. My point was that plenty of guys Shembo's size play in the NFL in front 7's. Some of them are even pretty dang good at it.
Elvis Dumerville isnt a pass rusher? The guy has averaged 10.5 sacks a season in his career and led the league in sacks in '09 with 17 sacks.
