Not a gotcha or leading question - do you have reading on the new vaccine that's being developed? Think it would really interesting to read.

I don't really, nothing technical, I've just seen the whispers on social media and some news outlets saying it's coming. Here's one from CNBC from a few weeks ago:

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/10/cov...s-omicron-vaccine-will-be-ready-in-march.html

Real-world data from the United Kingdom has shown that Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines are only about 10% effective at preventing symptomatic infection from omicron 20 weeks after the second dose, according to study from the U.K. Health Security Agency. However, the original two doses still provide good protection against severe illness, the study found.

So Pfizer's Bourna is saying that the current shots are still helping prevent serious infections for those that are high risk, but they're developing the updated shot to try and catch some of these variants that have come out since the initial release. Fauci seems to think we don't need it.

I'm looking forward to getting that upcoming Omicron booster in a few months, when we're already on to like our 2nd mutation from it.

As quickly as Omicron spikes and falls in most countries, you are probably correct.

I’m vaxxed but not boosted,… I def didn’t want to keep putting these things in my body if I didn’t have to but I just found out I have to get boosted for work (or rather conferences I have to present at for work). I’m sure as stated above I’ll need another, and another and another. I can only imagine the class actions if/when any side effects develop long term… anyway, I’m a bit frustrated right now and just needed a quick vent.

The Biden Administration saw the writing on the wall after the Supreme Court decision and is formally withdrawing the OSHA vaccine mandate/testing for businesses with more than 100 employees

The facts on the ground are changing too. Denmark and the. Netherlands are moving to unwind their restrictions including mask and vaccine requirements in early Feb. They're a few weeks ahead on omicron, but this spring could be what we wanted the summer to be.

*Caveat being that some new super variant could ruin everything

Gotta pray that if this thing is endemic going forward, as we think it will be, that future strains remain less dangerous compared to the early ones and we just mitigate it like we do flu/cold.

Are they?

I believe they still have to mask. Also, brothels have been reopened since Jan 15th. Brothels and cafes though? No. Ya know, because "ScIeNcE."

Also of note, the Netherlands are said to be at least 90% vaccinated. Yet they still shut the country down. Again.

Everything but a vaccination requirement for international travelers. Their being 80% vaccinated is what allowed this.

As far as I know they are completely shielded from liabilty so good luck to the litigants seeking damages. Maybe that's changed. I doubt it.

There's nothing to that link.

I'm genuinely curious about the Netherlands. Everything I've read makes it seem like they're about to open up businesses, from a legitimate shutdown, in still completely restricted manners. What I've read makes it seem like they are about to get back to May '20 USA levels of "opening." Which is good, but nothing close to really "unwinding their restrictions and vaccine mandates."

I'm not looking for a fight. Again, I'm curious about the country.

It seems to have similar mortality to omicron now and most modelers think it makes this wave likely to crash slower instead of making a new wave... so not so bad (yet)

https://twitter.com/enn_nafnlaus/status/1483888843766087680?s=20&t=f82th6VWPbmcvJT2M7BC2g

Other interesting thing about Omicron is south africa saw 20% of the mortality from the delta wave but 40% excess mortality. A weird finding since the hospitals weren't as overloaded as with delta (you'd expect better in hospital care for non covid stuff). Omicron seems better at infecting non lung cells, so some deaths we see as not covid mifht be sparked by covid (diabetes exacerbation, heart disease worsening, etc.).

We (Hawaii) were getting smashed, but I think (hope?) Omicron has peaked. We went into crisis staffing 2x due to how ridiculously easy this spreads, but the overall severity is much lower than Delta. A lot of the positive cases we've seen have been manageable, which is nice.

What do you think it will take for Hawaii to unwind the pandemic travel restrictions? The vaccine verification takes forever, and the island is Uber vaccinated...

Personal story to relay here… I have mentioned my step mother in here multiple times who had severe comorbidities and can’t get vaxed per her doctors. She ended up getting covid from her unvaxed sister and it put her into the ICU where she was on a ventilator and unconscious for several weeks. She was so far gone we had begun the process of preparing to lose her. She then began responding to the treatments and ultimately came back, got out of the ICU and Is at home.

We just informed by my father in law that she has recently started having severe and traumatic hallucinations. Hallucinations like seeing strange people in the windows at all hours of the day and hearing noises and songs that aren’t there. Her doctors have lumped her case into the rising number of people experiencing hallucinations after a severe bout with covid. I never heard of this before but apparently it’s real and the doctors all think this is what it is. We don’t know what to do. She can’t be left alone at the moment because they occur frequently and can vary from audible to outright traumatic visual ones.

Jeez, I am glad she pulled through and hoping for a continued recovery. I’ve read very similar stuff to people who have been put on a ventilator for a long period of time. Hope you guys find answers and she recovers

Anecdotal story to do with what you will . . .

My 5 year old son got COVID, tested positive with an at home test. We are all healthy, no more COVID in the home.

Went and got the whole family tested at a drive up test site. Results came back in 72 hours ish.

None of us are vaccinated. 3 positives, 2 negatives. My wife, 8 year old, and 5 year old were positive. My 3 year old and I were negative. Symptoms/results:

POSITIVE
Wife (39)- Mild aches for 36-48 hours. Mild cold like symptoms of runny nose, sore throat. Mild fatigue for 5-7 days
8 year old- Runny nose, mild fatigue 36-48 hours.
5 year old- Fever chills 24-36 hours, runny nose 3-4 days

NEGATIVE
3 year old- No symptoms, possible runny nose congestion (came later, 7-10 days after initial symptoms for others)
Myself (45)- No symptoms, possible runny nose congestion (I have chronic sinus/asthma issues due to Samter's Triad diagnosis, hard to distinguish)

On the whole, our personal experience was a very mild sickness in our home, we have dealt with worse (and I know plenty of both vaxxed and unvaxxed who have had a much harder time)

I take recommended dosage of vitamin C, D, Zinc, Quercetin daily (have for many months)
I had regular interaction with my family, including hugs, laying by my kids at bedtime, normal everyday life stuff without masks.

This is not an arrogant post, but one of real life interactions with COVID. Some questions that come to my mind:

1. Why didn't I get the highly contagious variant of Omicron based upon the above facts? Or if I did, why no significant symptoms to speak of?
2. Should we be making claims that "the vaccine made my symptoms less?" or "my supplements made my symptoms less?" We were not vaccinated and had very minor symptoms. And yet, was it my supplements that keep me healthy? My wife wasn't taking any supplements.

It seems like a healthy does of humility would do us all good, myself included.
AS a follower of Jesus, the Christ, I follow the Gospels strictly.

Matthew 25 1-13

Wise virgins put oil in their lamps

It's either about Christ's teaching or ego and strange agendas. We each make our choices.

Your body is the lamp

Vaccine is oil

agnostics and charlatans think otherwise

Yeah man, Lorenzo's Oil is a good movie, very sad though.

And,….. Ugh

It’s not even that,… just general venting. I’m so sick of feeling like this
My 17 y/o son got boosted Sunday afternoon. No issues until Monday morning after their early workouts when he told him mom he was achy and felt horrible. Slept the rest of the day and complained of sore back. Was back at 5:30 AM workout this morning as well as after school practice and felt decent but back still sore. He had COVID a little over a year ago w/ minimal discomfort (head cold) and no issues from first two jabs so maybe his body is finally putting up an immune response. Hopefully it dissipates to nothing in a day or two.

Not sure how many people are paying attention to the Canada trucker protest. They tried to stop people from providing fuel or food to the protesters by threatening arrest. For the most part I believe they've just been confiscating the fuel. So what did the protesters do? Everyone started carrying fuel containers. LOL. Most of them are empty. No crime against carrying empty fuel containers.

I do think the protesters have overstepped by shutting down the Detroit bridge. They risk pushing away people who support the principles of the protest but shutting down the bridge may be too much. You could say that it may be a bridge too far.
