Overall I like the game but there are a few things that make me wonder if the development team wasnt communicating with each other. For example, they've created and emphasized in their marketing a "wear and tear" system that tells you that your starters are getting tired/more likely to be injured... but they've totally neglected any way to sub that player out unless you pause the game, go to the coaching menu, go to the roster submenu, click through your roster to find the player, and then remove them from the game. And if you want to sub them back in, you have to go back and do all that again.

Also they've removed an option that used to be present in every other NCAA game that would allow you to make mass substitutions once a game was out of hand. That's such a baffling omission in a game that is actively shoving it's fatigue system in your face.
Damn. Wish they would've developed a week by week game plan that allowed you to tag players/groups of players with percentages to shoot for and letting the game (randomness) determine how close you get to that. That would be a lot closer to how coaches approach each week. I mean, coach plans are way more detailed than that, having specific subpackages for players or times to sub in/out based on field position but that might be too demanding for most.

EA will hopefully take a lot of good feedback from this one.

I also hate that they removed mass subs. Would have been a lot easier to keep people from transferring or able to develop players when winning or losing badly and mass subbing in your 2nd team for some snaps. I hope they fix this!

Maybe its just me (haven't gone through the thread in detail), but I think they need to tone down AA difficulty. Every DB is prime Revis and I need to basically resort to a JJ McCarthy offense to have any chance. It's not that fun.

I also hate the new read option controls... they flipped it from every football video game ever made and I can't mentally get the hang of it.
Yea I am not sure why they switched the read option controls.

Starting my second season.
Beat #8 seed NC state in the title game.
I was ranked #1 with ND so I had to play 4 games in the CFP but my road was boise st first round, Liberty, Georgia , NC ST.

Lost to Stanford oddly enough was my only loss on the season.

Transfer portal was interesting seeing guys and had previously recruited. Caleb Downs was back in the transfer portal and decided to take his talents to South Bend.

CJ Carr improved to be better overall than angeli or Minchey so he’s the starter rolling into year 2. Only transfer I had was Jadarian Price.

KVA progressed to a 92 I think so he’s the top overall player on the team going to year two.

CJ’s first TD was a 65 yard go route to Cam Williams.

I started a dynasty the other night and I just checked the top 25 and ND was unranked. 2-3 and started out 0-3 😬

Ok, played my first game just now. Navy @ ND on Varsity. I played Madden on All Madden extensively a few years ago, but with the new passing system I'd go in blind and see how it goes.

Started pretty rough, unable to score 1st quarter while Navy kicked a FG. I missed my own FG, the kicking does take a second to get used to. Feels like the arrow doesn't stop on a dime, it kinda keeps going a bit after you hit the button, like it's got momentum. Then, as someone else pointed out, you hold on the button to build power. I hit my extra points fine once I got the hang of it, first couple kickoffs weren't great. 2nd Quarter I focused on running more, Love is a bit of a cheat mode as someone said. He had great speed getting to the outside. OL averaged 12 pancakes each, they abused the Navy DL. Only ended up with one TD 1st half.

2nd half blew the barn doors off them. Got the hang of the passing, it seems to work a bit like the kicking where you're holding on the button for power. After missing my first several throws ended up going 12/26 for 283 yards and 5 TDs with Leonard. I kind of fell back into some of my favorite Madden passing concepts and that helped get things going. Jayden Thomas had a big day with 5 catches for 120 yards, did well with Medium out patterns, Kris Mitchell was at 4 catches for 70. Greathouse, Faison, and Mitchell had a couple each. I questioned the game's realism for a second when Greathouse had a drop, that shit doesn't happen.

I'm not sure what to make of the defense so far. Compared to when I played Madden a few years ago, they seem to be all over the place and confused a bit. Guys were out of position, not moving to the ball like I expected, etc. I had a hell of a time stopping Navy from driving down the field at first. I'd load up the box, but somehow their RBs were getting great yards still despite the fact their offense is their weakness and ND's strength is the D. Their OL was opening holes on ND's DL, it was pretty bad. I started guessing the play call before the snap and things changed in a hurry. I basically guessed they were going to run the ball every down unless it was 3rd and Long, and then Navy couldn't move the ball at all. Ogen, Mills, and Kiser all had Sacks. Morrison had one INT. Navy was completely shut down 2nd half once I started guessing the play type.

Some takeaways
Positive:
1.
abb409ab-7f8d-469a-85cb-0586f2282e29_text.gif

Visually it's just beautiful. Not sure if I'm a big fan of the play selection graphics and transitions, feels less like I'm watching an actual game and more like a video game, but that's personal preference I guess. Players look great though, entrance to the stadium was great, There were times I thought it looked like live footage.
2. Feels like the game speed is ramped up. There were times NCAA/Madden felt a bit slow, not this game. Speaking of which, players will actually hurry to the line or you can force them to hurry to the line again it seems. I don't think Madden was always letting me do that last time around.
3. Passing feels crisp. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with the new passing mechanics or switch back to the old way, but at least there's options to do so.

Negative:
1. I'm not seeing any way to import sounds into the game, and this hurts me greatly. There's NO 1812 Overture at the start of the 4th Quarter! There's no Here Come the Irish/Shipping Up to Boston at the start of the game (Although there is some crowd noise where everyone shouts "Irish" when the kicker kicks it). There's a lot of other missing sounds that I'd really like to put in the game, whether it's Crazy Train, or the Stripes, or all the ND band stuff I've used over the years. Really really disappointed they didn't bring this feature back.
2. The audio sounds very studio-ish. I think someone else pointed this out. It's lacking that raw feel you get when the band is playing live. This is another area where importing sounds could have fixed it. The audio isn't necessarily bad, but it just doesn't feel like you're at a game. It feels a bit phony/manufactured.
3. On the fence about the defensive AI as mentioned. I don't like having to guess what the play will be every time, but that seemed to be the only way I could stop Navy. They might play better on higher difficulties. I'm not crazy about the change to the Read Option button either, but I started getting used to it as the game went on. Honestly the Read Option didn't seem nearly as effective as it was in the last game, so I might just drop it out of the playbook. Madden has been big on the RPO, might work more on that and see how it behaves in college.

Also I haven't found it if it is there, but is there anyway to change the play selection menu? I hate getting sent to coach suggestions all the time and having so many things on the menu makes it harder to shuffle through it.

And no formation subs either. You can do it in the play selection menu… but that takes play clock time.

Why can’t I just have formation subs set for the game/season?

I found the screen where you can adjust the auto sub slider. I'm going to adjust the RB, WR, D-Line, and LB to come out at 70-75 instead of 60 and not return until 80-85. Hopefully this gets a lot more players into the game without diving too deep into the depth chart.

I really hope massive patches are incoming. Gameplay has no "feel" to it. Every play feels like they're gliding/sliding around. Sick of opponents breaking 4 tackles every play and my ai defenders taking the worst possible angles. If I knew this was coming, I would've waited till it was free on game pass. Entertainment sure has a piss poor record for me lately.

I wish more people would post their overall impressions after some time with the game. I know I'll eventually cave but I'm hoping to see some patches delivered that deliver some of the fan requests.

I agree. I can’t pass the ball without throwing 2-3 picks a game. Luckily I’ve found a good ground attack

What’s going on with my players, who are being controlled by CPU, getting so many roughing the kicker penalties? It makes me want to break my tv.

Not sure how I feel about this game yet. It feels familiar and strange at the same time.

The lack of formation subs and custom soundtracks really disappoint.

So looking at this now and there are only three things you can change with the play call menu. None of them affect how nightmarishly bulky it is. Really makes it hard to call a diverse offense quickly.

I hate that they think they need to give me any thing other than the barebone playbook. Keep it organized by formation and let me call my offense/defense. I don't need the rest of this stuff. It's just more shit to scroll through.

I would have gladly switched back to it, but I fear I need to practice this for online play.
Lear revamped. When playing online classical passing is just a pick waiting to happen. Number 1 thing to practice is tackling, then what’s different now is that instead of playing line or safety learn of to play the nickel because the slot is over powered in this game. The computer will get beat every time on a drag slant or post unless you user cover.

For everyone bummed about formation subs, try messing with sub packages in pre-play. They updated the depth chart to include slot WR, 3rd down back, power back, etc.

In theory, the extra positions combined with the standard sub packages should provide plenty of flexibility.

Haven’t played enough myself yet to master it, though.

Okay here's some bullshit. I just came back to win a rivalry in the last 30 seconds in my dynasty. I even get the ball back and kneel out the clock.

Final score reads 33-30 THEM. It even shows me having scored last BUT it says they scored a touchdown of mine and got the 2 point conversion when I'M the fucking one who did that. WTF.

This was also my big recruiting weekend and the game has completely fucked me. God this shit was inexcusable when you wouldn't get an overtime possession in 14. It's now ten years later and the game is just as buggy.

Okay. Good news. I exit the game and now it has the proper score 36-33 ME. Why did it say 33-30 them and had them with the 40 yd touchdown pass and successful two point conversion in the stats when I was the one who did that?
