Tom Herman is still hanging around.
I've always wondered if there's an untold story about that guy. His fall from the top was swift, and I wouldn't even say he was THAT bad at Texas. It took him years to get another gig and even then it was a low level one where he didn't even last 2 years. I compare that someone like Scott Frost, who had a much worse run at a lower tier p4 program and a truckload of off-field issues. Yet he's seemed to fare better.

He has a reputation for being abrasive, overly demanding and intense. With players, staff and opposition. He's had more than one post game confrontation with opposing coaches. Alex Golesh was the most recent. His coaching and management style came into question BEFORE Covid, NIL and The Portal. That says a lot about him.

I never bought into the hype with him and Todd Orlando. He parlayed two good seasons at Houston into the Texas job. Fair play to him. He got paid out. The fact nobody snagged him up after Texas right away said something to it that it was more than on field stuff. Then he crashed out of FAU hard. That was a midseason firing.

Frost was beloved by his players at UCF. He got guilted into the Nebraska job he didn't REALLY want. His wife REALLY REALLY didn't want him to take it, but he did. That caused a ton of issues at home too. He walked into a buzzsaw at Nebraska. They expected him to run things like they did in 1998 and win national championships. Combine a bad culture with a coach who doesn't really want to be there AND problems at home. No bueno. Then he did the right thing and essentially disappeared for a few years. Laid low and got his shit together. Then did right by his wife and moved her back to the city she loved living in as soon as he got the chance. And he owned his mistakes for the most part. That goes a long way. I hope he's successful there again, but even if he isn't, it was good to see him get the chance and appreciate it.
