Firing James Franklin for Sitake would be an all time brain dead move.
The crazy thing is it's not even clear who they thought they'd get.
LSU made a similar move firing BK but at least they did what they needed to do to land Kiffin.
With Penn State, Matt Rhule was the only name that ever seemed kinda real. And then a few guys (Key, Lea, Cignetti) who used them to leverage extensions. Did they think Cignetti would jump at the chance to move up the B1G pecking order and were left stuck when he didn't?

LSU fired the real BK, just to hire skinny, more narcissistic BK

Kiffen is a troll but he’s a good coach that will actually recruit
He also has competed for a long time at the level that LSU does. Sitake has won a lot of games but mostly against lesser competition than he'd face in the Big Ten.

So Sitake is used to recruiting predominately West Coast, Polynesian, and LDS kids. He’s gonna go to PSU where he’ll recruit next to none of that and not get the benefit of 25 year olds on defense.

Good luck.

Penn State is also in their reporters and board insiders were wrong, burn the whole place down phase. They truly thought DeBoer was coming

Kiffin suggested that the Ole Miss players wanted him to continue to coach. Apparently that is inaccurate.

I didn't say that. I'm saying who cares about LA talent when you have NIL. If you think over the next 30 years (forget the past) LSU is going to be some top landing spot while spending money like Texas, Texas Tech, A&M, Oregon, and Ohio St. I'd say you are wrong. Neither one of us will know for many years. But the landscape that made LSU a top 5 job is gone...you can agree with that right?

As soon as NIL hit we've seen the SEC lose a strangle hold on the Natty. Put 5 sec teams in, and I'll still bet the champ comes from the B10 or ND. This year may be 3 years in a row....blink and it will be a decade.

I agree with parts of what you’re saying, but I see it a bit differently in other respects.

Sure, some kids are just going to go after the highest dollar figure. Do you really want those kids? They're the first to quit and/or transfer at the drop of a hat. In addition, I do think we’ll eventually see some form of legislative limits placed on NIL. At the same time, I believe the transfer portal has just as much—if not more—impact on the current college football landscape than NIL itself. And it’s worth noting that Kiffin openly said one of the most compelling aspects of LSU’s offer was the NIL package the school had built for him. That speaks volumes, in my opinion. LSU fans care, they’re invested, and they’re willing to resource the program to win. Combine that with the sheer volume of in-state talent at every level, and LSU is almost always going to be in the mix. I just don’t see a scenario where we have another early-90s style collapse ever again.

As for the Big Ten, I still don’t view it as the powerhouse some people make it out to be. It’s essentially a couple of elite programs (Ohio State, Oregon, and maybe Indiana) surrounded by a lot of cannon fodder. And even with Indiana—post-2024, I’m not sold. They need to prove they can string together wins against legitimate competition. Last season they were completely outclassed by both Ohio State and Notre Dame, and until they consistently show otherwise, I’m not buying the hype.

I think he’s a pretty good coach, as was BK.

But the fact he/ESPN thought he’s the level of coach that deserved a Lebron-like “decision” is weird to me. He’s never even made it to the CFP yet lol.
They're in it this year? He literally just locked up their winningest season ever. ;)

Crazy. He was just recently in play for the A&M job before Elko got it. He somewhat reminded me of Les Miles in philosophy - he was stubborn and wouldn't evolve or adapt his offensive style/play calling.

This is really the same rationale LSU used with BK. Its just NIL now compared to academic restrictions.

In the end, it boils down to culture within the program. We will see if the culture Lane is able to produce will be as effective as guys like Kirby, Day, Lanning, Freeman, etc.

BK is the more accomplished HC than Kiffin and has actually gotten his teams to big postseason games. BK has coached in more conference title games (2) than Lane. I don't like BK and maybe by now Kiffin has more juice left in him, but BK's career is much stronger than Lane's.

They're going to backpedal to BK, aren't they? lol
