Makes sense to me. Kelly hated recruiting prior to NIL. I can’t imagine he wants any part of it now. Plus, he’s had a taste of the NFL so for a 60-year old who just wants to coach ball, it’s gotta be enticing.

I think we're just scratching the surface with all of this. It's just the beginning. NFL coordinators will make good money. Maybe not SEC head coach money, but you're coaching football and don't have to worry about personnel. Your front office does that. You don't need to fundraise. Your owner is a billionaire and The Shield is the ultimate North American sports brand. Your players, physically and mentally (for the most part) are professionals.

Somebody like Dabo Swinney is going to stay in college forever because he wants to be the figurehead and have as much control as he possibly can. He has no business in the NFL and wants nothing to do with it. They in turn probably want nothing to do with him. Lincoln Riley has a great gig. He can keep cashing checks until he gets fired, then he will likely have options at either level.

Guys who have already had a taste of the NFL will be flocking back. Those who have not and feel the frustrations of the "new era" of college football will jump at the NFL opportunities if presented to them. The college game could suffer from a lack of quality coaching OR there will be guys who get college opportunities that otherwise would not have and perhaps get a chance to prove themselves when they otherwise would not.

I still believe the component that hurts football overall right now is the lack of quality QBs. The game is nevertheless still quite popular in America. I don't think it's going anywhere, but there is without question a paradigm shift we're in the midst of.

Coen likely to leave UK OC for Bucs OC. Interesting to see if Tommy gets a call and what his response would be. He is in the NFL and is probably a year or two away from getting NFL OC job opportunities. It's really a question on if he wants NFL or college. We will see.

i think in CFB we will eventually see a splitting of the on field and off field coaching staffs when it comes to recruiting. Basically you'll end up with teams of Chad Bowdens doing most of the offsite recruiting/travel/evals with onfield coaches only really involved when recruits come to campus

Recruiting has always been there. Add on NIL, transfer portal, and an effed up calendar is why really good ball coaches are leaving.

If you told me 3 months ago the only coach (or staff member, Bowden) we lost was Al Washington.... I'd have taken the offer before you finished your sentence.

I don't consider Parker because he wasn't an actual OC.

Elston wouldnt be that crazy. Harbaugh is gone, he's losing a ton on the DL, and he just got passed up for protion again.

Yeah. Bad enough to have your up-and-comer head coach quit to go be an NFL coordinator, but then the best you can replace him with is a guy who has never even been a college coordinator himself? Good for Al but yikes for BC.

When BC was competent in the O'Brien/Jagodzinski years, they recruited Ohio very, very hard. Candle would make sense based on that alone.

any kind of return for Elston is going to depend on how it all ended after the Oklahoma State bowl game. If that was an audition for DC and he didn't pass, what would compel him to return to ND for another lateral move and would Freeman/Golden want him here in the first place?

It would be a surprise, but I'm in the camp that moved on a while ago so I'd be completely good either way if he came back or did not.

Also worth pointing out that BC signed the #96 class on Rivals, with only 13 kids signing NLIs. Woof.

Last year they ranked 62nd and only signed 18 players. Hafley clearly wasn't a fan of recruiting and whoever takes that job will have a lot of hustling to do, and will need to take large classes Years 1 and 2.

What's the best case for the BC job in all seriousness? Show a steady upward trajectory over 3-4 years capping at 8-4 or maybe 9-3 then bounce to a better job? I think it may be the very worst P5 job between facilities, NIL, recruiting base, and general overall fan/alumni interest. Great academics but nothing to separate them from the bigger fish in ND, or even Duke, Northwestern, and Stanford.

Great academics, great city, great campus, Catholic school. Lots of reasons to choose BC. BC has had very good seasons before and can get there again. Need a coach who can identify talent in New England, the mid-Atlantic, and the midwest and recruit and develop them.

As a fellow New Englander, I am struck by how many more quality recruits are coming out of Massachusetts lately, and how few of them seem to go to BC.
Just in the last few cycles, we have landed several. Michigan had a number of Boston-area guys on their two-deep this year, including Sanristil and Zak Zinter. BC's usually in the mix - like they were for Lambert and Traore - but they need to actually win a few more of those recruitments, and go from there.

But big picture, unless BC's administration wants to seriously up its commitment to football, their ceiling is Stanford/Northwestern/Duke. And that's fine. Just hit that, instead of whatever they've been doing in recent years.
