Was reading something today that sounded like Memphis plans to promote from within. Long doesn’t seem likely for any of those other jobs. Does that mean he’s probably back next year?

The optimal scenario would be for Long to land another job, so there is no unpleasant parting, but just because he doesn't get the Memphis job doesn't mean he and BK won't have that uncomfortable dialogue.

Yuck, the strategy of hoping an individual gets another job to get rid of them is not smart. Shows a lack of leadership and Swarbrick should step in again to force Kelly's hand.

How do you know BK isn't going to take care of this? We still have the bowl game, so I'm guessing he is waiting until afterward to handle this.

UNLV just hired Oregon's OC/assistant HC Arroyo. I think that is a very good hire considering UNLV's football history

Steve Addazio to CSU and Willie Taggert to FAU.
That leaves 5 CFB D1 jobs available.

Ol' Willie flew too close to the sun.

From Oregon to FAU in a three year time span. Unreal.

That's quicker career regression than Lane Kiffen.

Pretty clear teams don't care how many titles he has; his lack of any meaningful playcalling duties continues to hold him back. Wonder if he leaves OSU?

If Tony Alford has HC aspirations, maybe he becomes the OC/RB coach at Colorado State??? Idk just spitballing. Maybe he’ll leave to become an OC at a smaller place for now.

Saw on ESPN that Kiffy might poach Alabama's S&C badass, Scott Cochran, to be one of his assistants.

It does seem like he'll need to be a coordinator to get an HC job (which means leaving OSU). How many people get a head job without at least that on their resume?

Dabo Swinney & Urban Meyer jump to mind

Urban Meyer comes to mind. He went from ND WR Coach to an upwardly mobile series of HC jobs.

Add Jim Harbaugh

Brother John Harbaugh was never an OC nor DC but gets as Asterisk for serving as a Special Teams Coordinator.

Arizona State defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales will be New Mexico's new HC. Gonzales played at New Mexico before coaching there in different capacities from 1999-2008. He then coached at San Diego State from 2011-17, again working on the staff of head coach Rocky Long as he had with the Lobos. He is a native of Albuquerque. Gonzales' salary at ASU was $575,000 per year. Bob Davie's base salary was only $442,690 but had incentives. New Mexico bought out Davie for $825,000. The payments to Davie will amount to $27,500 a month until the summer of 2022. For context, the average per capita income in Albuquerque in 2017 was $28,229 a year, according to the most recent statistics available from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Danny Gonzales - bio from Arizona State football website

Fresno State confirmed that Kalen DeBoer will be their next HC. DeBoer replaces Jeff Tedford, who stepped down earlier this month after three seasons with the Bulldogs amidst health concerns. DeBoer spent two seasons (2017-18) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Fresno State under Tedford. He left to take the coordinating job at Indiana, spending one season with the Hoosiers.

Jimmy Sexton is the agent for many of the high profile coaches and gets his ten percent or whatever of the contracts schools sign with them. He's taken part of Taggert's haul from South Florida, Oregon, FSU and Florida Atlantic. In addition to Taggert, Sexton represents Jimbo Fisher and Mike Norvell, so he gets schools their replacements, too.

He represents Chad Morris who was fired at Arkansas and who landed at Auburn and represents Malzhan. I don't know if he represents his replacement, Sam Pittman, but probably. Matt Luke fired at Ole Miss and his replacement Lane Kiffin have Sexton as their agent. A couple of years ago, he was the agent for eleven of the fourteen SEC coaches.

How many college coaches are likely in the mix for NFL jobs? Rhule? Maybe Lincoln Riley to Dallas. Anyone else? Thinking about dominoes here.

Also reporting Pat Shurmur out with the Giants. So basically Doug Pederson will be the only coach retained in the NFC East
