Kiffin has to be the luckiest ever. He certainly isn't great. He is ok but not good enough to go where he has been.

He has been good at times. Was doing really well in his "fooled ya" season at Tenn.

He probably knows how to run an offense.

Managing a team and anything outside of the offense, not so much.

That's really the majority of the profession.

In this instance, I who his father is has helped him tremendously on top of having worked for Poodle at USC.

He can recruit, too. Just has the baggage and reputation of being a jerk. He can get hired by a school like Ole Miss.

I guess being OC at Bama gave Kiffin a taste of Southern football and the SEC. But it seems like a really weird fit and it’s not at all hard to imagine him being run out of there in three years.

He was the HC at Tennessee, though it was a brief stint.

BC doesn't exactly scream "great offense". So I guess that makes him a fit.

He was at BC for one year and their offense went from the 88 ranking in SP+ to 37th this year. He took a terrible offense and molded them into a pretty decent one which is exactly what Northwestern needs right now.

That's not the only solid offense that ND totally smothered this season.

Mike Norvell has tapped Kenny Dillingham from Auburn as he OC. They had worked together at Memphis and Arizona State.

Arkansas running backs coach Jeff Traylor will be the next head coach at UTSA.

Butch Jones emerging as the favorite to fill the Colorado State job.

I cannot believe that Alford doesn't get that job. Blows my mind.

I respect Tony Alford, but here are the other four candidates who interviewed: Butch Jones, Dave Aranda, Kevin Wilson, and Steve Addazio. On the surface, it looks like all four have either better experience ( 3 previous head coaches) or a better resume/results ( Dave Aranda). For some reason, the CSU job was highly attractive this go-around. It might be time for Alford to take a shot at an even lower-tier program to get experience.

Utah gave their DC an extension. Interesting move since his name was coming up for head coaching vacancies.

I really like the USF hire of Scott.

It appears Kerry Cooks started following Nd coaches/reporters on twitter

Did we ever find out why he moved on to Oklahoma?

Was he upset at the fact he was a co-DC who was effectively demoted when ND hired Van Gorder?

Also, does anybody know anything about his time at Oklahoma? I see he was not retained when Oklahoma brought in a new DC but was Cooks particularly viewed as a weak link there?

Wasn't that Mike Bobo's plan as well? I guess it did work out in the end for Bobo as he did find his way back to the SEC. :)

Probably the only reason he is involved in the process is because he is a beloved alumnus. CSU AD specifically said they wanted to hire someone with head coaching experience at the appropriate levels.

Norvell could be a really good hire for FSU. They'll always get athletes to play on the defensive side of the ball. If he can get some offensive linemen, which should be easy given it's FSU, he'll put together a good offense. ACC is wide open right now too. I guess we'll see.

Was reading something today that sounded like Memphis plans to promote from within. Long doesn’t seem likely for any of those other jobs. Does that mean he’s probably back next year?

Yuck, the strategy of hoping an individual gets another job to get rid of them is not smart. Shows a lack of leadership and Swarbrick should step in again to force Kelly's hand.
