Am I the only one who thinks Jimbo is overrated

You might be. This is will be the first time since 2011 his team doesn't win at least 10 games. Not very many guys you can say that about.

^^

FSU's offense crumbled when QB Deondre Francois was lost for the season in the first game against Bama. They were in the game until he went down.

They also play Sagarin's #1 Toughest Schedule. They've played 6 games against Sagarin's Top 30. NOBODY has played more games against stiff competition. By comparision Bobby Bowden use to have 2 or 3 tough games on cupcake schedules.

Losing your franchise QB with the Toughest Schedule is hard for any coach.

Bowden was .756 at FSU against a weak ACC. Fisher is .781 against a much more competitive ACC.

One area where Jimbo is gifted is recruiting. Some of that is school standards some of that is his staff and some of that is him.

This year when he lost Francois he was still loaded with 4 and 5 star players throughout the lineup. As well as high end juco kids.

I am not surprised Fsu is struggling. I kind of went off Jimbo in how he handled the Winston situation

No disagreement there.

Bobby Bowden would have come down on Winston like an anvil on coyote. Winston would have had to run the stadium steps ... probably twice.

It's F$U.

Yes, if they could get him at the right price.

Notre Dame is NOT the place for OJT.

This seems like a contradictory statement. What do you think the price would be?

I think the differences between HS and college are so great, there is no way a modern HS coach could take over a college program. Even if the coach is at one of the major HS programs. That being said, Tony Sanchez did go from Bishop Gorman to UNLV, so I guess it's not impossible.

Can you imagine ND hiring a HS coach in this day and age? I remember when we hired Faust and I thought it was a great, bold move. That sure didn't work.

Notre Dame is NOT the place for OJT.

Faust biggest fault or weakness was being able to eye talent and realize the disparity between HS and college. He brought in so many Moeller kids thinking they could play D1 level.

Dick Dullaghan was the HC at Carmel from 73-80. Won two state titles and was runner-up twice. He left to be the Asst HC at Purdue for three years. After a quick stop at Army, he left CFB and came to Ben Davis in Indy. He won 5 or 6 state titles and had a winning percentage over 80% with BD. IIRC he wasn't real happy coaching at the college level, but was a hell of a HS coach.

Small college might be a good place to go from HS, but not D1, let alone ND.

I think A&M is working C. Kelly behind the scenes. They have plenty of money, first class facilities, and fertile recruiting grounds - even if Kelly hates recruiting. Wouldn't be shocked to see the Aggies go all in on him after Saturday.

Chip Kelly is the most wanted man in America right now. He is at home in New Hampshire counting his money.

http://www.startribune.com/gophers-extend-fleck-contract-to-2023/459296263/

Fleck signed a five-year contract when he was hired in January, paying an average of $3.6 million per season — $18 million over the five years — slightly more than the Big Ten average of $3.52 million, according to Forbes.

The terms of the contact extension were not announced Wednesday. It will become official with approval by the university’s Board of Regents.

Fleck will hold a news conference late Wednesday morning to discuss the deal and other topics related to the program.

The contractual endorsement of Fleck comes despite the team falling short of its on-the-field accomplishments last season, when the Gophers put up nine victories — the most for the program since 2003 — and won a bowl game.

This is a list of recruits from Texas A&M that fit our positions of need and shows their best academic offers. Crazy how some of these guys have offers from the best academic schools in FBS and end up at Texas A&M. Poaching season!!

I grew up and went to school with DD's sister in law's kids if that makes sense. Saw DD a lot as well as his children..... and externally he seemed much happier when he was with HS kids. He's a first class guy and awesome coach. Still holds a lot of IN records. If I had to guess based on the fragments I heard growing up from family, he could have easily stayed at the college level but returned to HS for quality of life/family.

Word today from cbssports.com that Kelly is going to make a decision between UCLA and Florida in the next few days.

Read that too. But I have to think A&M has put a call in to him to see if he would maybe be willing to stop by for a chat on his flight back east.

Yeah but if you take an SEC job you take Florida over Texas A@M all day long. The A@M job to me is over rated.

Minnesota going into panic mode kind of early.

One thing for sure, we'll see a lot of movement here real soon.

They, too, must have heard the "Malzahn-to-Arkansas, Jimbo-to-Auburn, BK-to-FSU" rumor train...

Indeed. At A&M you're forever second fiddle to Texas. You're a newcomer in the SEC. And you're not even that good. They've won 10 or more games just twice in the last 23 years. But your fan base thinks you're Bama.

This is the difference between high expectations at Florida and AM. At UF fans expect a lot because they know what is possible. Basically no reason to not win in Gainesville. AM fans are just delusional.

To be fair, the stadium wasn’t very full to begin with. AND he can touch base with concession stands about the leftover situation while he packs, which is more win than he had on the field this year.

The Aggies are bedded in a talent pool recruited by almost everyone. They have oil money and the facilities / stadium to prove it. The alumni base that craps out a small city every year has high expectations. It’s also a stellar game day environment. They will spend big and aim high, because they should.

All of that money and they haven't been a relevant program in decades. I'm not saying they should never aspire for more but the fan base has the expectation levels of a blue blood program when they are historically middle class.

Sadly, they were less successful in the B12 under Mike Sherman then when Sumlin led them in their transition to the SEC.
