Hey guys, we just hired Chip Long as our OC.

I know he was fired from ND, but his numbers didnt look awful the first couple of years for you guys. How did you guys like him? He can't be any worse than we had the past few years, you guys got to see it this year. Dreadful.

If I recall correctly, we had some of our most explosive offenses under him during BKs tenure. 2018 & 2019 were ridiculous, even with Book under center.. (our former QB notorious for not being able to throw effectively more than 40 yards down field)

It's his approach to coaching, or his coaching style, that led to a parting of ways.

Rumor at the time was that we could have had a large exodus of players if he wasn't removed.

I know that more posters on this board could elaborate further for you.

Had a hard time relating with the offenses coaches as well. Good luck.

I have heard this a couple of times now.

Honestly, thats what we need. Our staff and players are the "love, love" type and its not working.

Well Fall Camp at GT sure as hell won't be Woodstock, so no worries on that.

Probably a one year gig as it looks now, unless Collins sees a major turnaround. Could be a resume builder for Chip.

I won't comment on him being a dick. I did really like him as an OC. Good luck next year.

Horrible coach, was absolutely loathed by his players here and demanded that we run a blocking scheme that squandered OL talent.

Nick Saban is a jerk. I wonder if our players could handle playing for him and his staff.

In fairness, Chip might have learned something from how his time at ND ended and can adjust. He was (is) pretty young.

He had a rep as a hard worker and strong recruiter. I didn't love his scheme because I thought it was too focused on attacking the linebackers and wasn't enough of a big play threat (not that it was Brian Ferentz's Pop-Warner-took-a-time-machine-to-help-me-draw-this-up).

Yeah, I remember his blocking scheme causing serious issues for the personnel we had.

I will say though, I felt like he could dial up one touchdown a game. Where he would have a TE leak, or a screen, or something. Especially off a turnover. Stanford to Mack comes to mind especially.

I bet he will be better than your previous coach (2 gooseeggs in a row for a P5 has to be extremely uncommon). But I think Chip might give you guys something for a year or two before everyone is rubbed the wrong way.

Good luck to him and the Ramnbling Wreck/Engineers/YellowJackets.

After one season at Memphis, he left to become offensive coordinator for Notre Dame.[SUP][4][/SUP][SUP][5][/SUP] Long was a finalist for the 2018 Broyles Award, which is given to the nation's top assistant coach, after the Irish finished the regular season undefeated, and had secured their first appearance in the college football playoffs.
That's from Wikipedia.

He may not win Miss Congeniality, but hey, he can coach. He reestablished the role of the Tight end at Tight End U.

Incredibly stubborn playcaller. Doesn’t like varying too much from the script, and will hammer and hammer and hammer away at plays that just aren’t working, and not in a way that he’s trying to set up a play action or anything like that, just in a way that felt he thought the play would eventually break through and work

I thought he was a good coach and good recruiter. I hadn’t heard much of the bad stuff about him until he left and like all fan bases we crap on coaches when they leave.

Maybe the plan is to go back to the triple option? I remember FBK talking up Del's history of developing WR's who are excellent run blockers.

Hey, they're only 3 years removed from Paul Johnson, so it wouldn't be too hard of a transition I'd wager  They probably still have some recruits that were brought in to run it. I'll give Del credit, our guys blocked the shit out of Corners on the outside. Even Colzie and Styles were getting pancakes on USC guys last year.
I do love a well executed option attack.

Del is the perfect WR coach for a triple option offense.

I forgot that Chip and Del worked together at Arizona State. But yeah guessing Ga. Tech won't be lighting up those ACC scoreboards through the air. Hellacious blockers on the outside though. Not all bad.

What's the story with this guy at ND? Anyone care to share the dirty details?

Geoff Collins has consistently been the worst coach in ACC. His team never showed any improvements year after year. He won 10 games in 3 & 1/3 seasons. I'm surprised he was not fired after last season.

For all his faults, Lip Chong did know how to coordinate a respectable rushing attack. If GT's willing to put up with a toxic locker room, I could see him having some success there.
