Turnovers are a problem, but the end result is the record. The problem with the Bears is they aren't competitive. Kelly's teams have been competitive in all but one or two games in his tenure. He wins. That is the whole point. All the rest is just ingredients.
You couldn't be more wrong about me wanting Kelly fired. I'm as staunch a defender of coaches as you'll find, to the point of maybe being an apologist. I defended Charlie up until his final year at ND. I even said in my first post about Trestman that "I'm not a 'fire the coach' guy." I'm in the other thread arguing how crazy it is to blame Kelly for what happened at ASU last weekend. But in the case of the Bears, the coach is clearly incompetent. Whether it is at the administrative level or the leadership level or the Xs and Os level is really immaterial. I think Trestman has a good offensive mind and he should be a very good coordinator next year. But his team has quit on him and even his offense, which is loaded with talent and has a QB that has been better than competent at points during his career, has stopped being competitive.
If he stays on (and it appears he will) they will probably win the next two weeks at home, but they'll finish 5-11 or 6-10 and have to replace the coach. So why not just do it now and send the message to the lockerroom that this level of performance isn't acceptable?
