The good news is that the new incoming president has a history of wanting to cancel the season... so when the bears sucks next year, he can try that.

I would assume some of the Bears trade partners will be rumored to David Carr as well.. Will be interesting to see how they bait each other the next 3 months.

He's not Ted Phillips.

That in and of itself is warranting an induction to Canton.

Phillips didn't really do much, if anything at all, on the football side of things. A lot of people assumed he did and the lack of success from the franchise during his tenure drew a lot of angst his way. Regardless of that, he was in his role way too long. A new CEO is a good fresh start, and Kevin Warren is a great fit.

Virginia McCaskey celebrated her 100th birthday last week. An ownership change outside of the McCaskey family is the big shake up that's going to be needed. The kids and grandkids don't really have an interest in keeping the team. Virginia is George Halas' daughter and she's not going to sell the team while she's alive. The Panthers sold for over $2B in 2018. You have to assume the Bears are going for more than that.

Like all Chicago sports franchises, the birth of change is only going to come with the passing of an owner.

Yup, or you could end up with Tom Rickett's as your owner. I guess I should feel grateful with the once in 4 generations World Series championship. LOL. I have no clue what he's doing and I'm not sure he does either.

They won one World Series and bought the entire neighborhood. I guess they think that is enough good will to last them forever.

The Blackhawks were a great example of what a franchise can do when the asshole patriarch dies. Sadly, they gave the Bowmans too much control and the patriarch's son became as asshole himself.

Virginia McCaskey and Jerry Reinsdorf are likely to live forever. Access to tremendous health care due to their wealth ultimately stands in the way of me enjoying my teams into middle age and my golden years.

When the Rams traded up with the Titans to get Goff in 2016:

Tennessee Got: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017).

Rams Got: Titans' first-overall pick (2016), a fourth-round pick (2016) and a sixth-round pick (2016).

This is probably the bar for Chicago as opposed to the 2012 RG3 trade.

RGIII trade was too long ago to have any significance IMO.

Warren is a great pickup. It will be interesting to see what the B1G does.

Ballard is well known for never drafting a quarterback high. He's been quoted to consider it career suicide. He's the last guy that will give up a haul to move up. Look for them to try for Carr or Tanny.
Ballard: Drafting a QB high is career suicide.
Also Ballard: I'm putting my career in the hands of Ryan Tannehill!

Has to draft a QB. The rewinds haven’t worked. He’s on a short leash to go that route again

Bears GM Ryan Poles came from the Kansas City Chiefs and Assistant GM Ian Cunningham came from the Philadelphia Eagles.
They're on the clock. Should be a very interesting offseason.

Some interesting scenarios being discussed as of late is that the Bears trade out of the number one pick and then trade down AGAIN after that.

The most obvious scenarios are trading down to 2 with the Texans, then trading that 2 pick to someone else looking for a QB like the Colts, etc.
A lot of interesting possibilities.

i have seen this discussed a couple times and seems absolutely wild to think about but would really set the new regime up nicely.

I'm no Bears fan but if I was...

This is the way.

Poles will have his pick of trade packages. The key will be leveraging the offers against one another. Houston should absolutely not let the Colts leapfrog them just to save a second round pick. If they draft a franchise QB it’ll be mentioned on the broadcast of every single game how they bungled it all by beating the Colts in a meaningless Week 18 game and let the Colts trade over them for the 1st overall pick.

Trade Fields to the Texans for their #2 and then trade back…. Fields can be great but I’m worried about his style and injury.

Why would the Texans trade #2 overall for him?

Not that jazzed about the return really. Only hope is the Panthers suck again and that 2024 pick is Top 5.

I think that's something to get excited about. I'd give it an A-. I'd give it an A+ but I wonder what value was assigned to DJ Moore. Without knowing, I might've wanted another pick.

DJ Moore is 25 (and is under contract through 2025)
Mooney is 25
Claypool is 24
N'Keal Harry is 24
Kmet is 24

That's how you build a receiving core. I think this is a slam dunk of a trade.
I love it on paper. Text my Brother-In-Law that this is a sneaky good skill group.

But, if Fields isn't ready next year or maybe 2, then the WR core is likely a moot point. Depending on the assigned value of Moore, I might've preferred to get another draft pick.
