So both Washington (Seattle) and Oregon (Eugene) seem to have much better atmospheres than ND

Eh, I saw varying output when Crazy Train used to be played. In some big games the crowd was loud, other games it had minimal effect. That's kind of a snapshot of ND stadium for lots of games though: they can get loud for the big games when they want to, but it's a pretty polite atmosphere for smaller teams often times.

Was at the game yesterday and, as frequently noted, the atmosphere was lacking. In fairness, an afternoon game against a bad Stanford team is not the appropriate measuring stick. Also, as someone who regularly attends home OSU games, that atmosphere has the same problem during day games. If the night atmosphere against top teams is good, I think that is all we can ask for — we will never be mistaken for the SEC when it comes to atmosphere.

I actually thought the crowd was decent considering the sleepy opponent and time frame.

I thought the crowd was more into the game yesterday, more louder than some of our other home games this season.

Can’t tell one way or the other on TV. NBC neuters ND games so hard. Muted crowd noise and band. No atmosphere setting at all. They just blast their shit-tier commentator crew.

Anyone know how much student season tickets cost these days and has atmo in the student section become less-raucous (relatively) in recent years as well?

Was at Louisville and Stanford. Overall LVille atmosphere was better, but the crowd got louder throughout the day yesterday, and I think animus towards the refs was a big contributor. Definitely got loud at key moments.

Did notice there were much more very young families with babies and toddlers. I think the traditional rivals/annual matchups draw those type of multi-gen/legacy crowds which tend to be much more reserved and quiet (lame).

That being said, far from the quietest I’ve ever heard it in 15 years of going to games. Dune/mo bamba third down theme is done too much. Launch six flags into the sun. More hype guests like Seamus at Lville. Salute to vets was awesome yesterday. Club music is fine as it engages the youth, but shouldn’t be the overwhelming majority as it is now, and certainly not anything “chill”.

Day games will never match night games, but would be cool to have the crowd more engaged from kickoff during the less marquis matchups.

The song they played on EVERY third down, starting with the Siren leading into a drop and generic EDM song was absolutely awful. It's like they pick a song to ride the shit out of until everyone hates it.

It's also Columbus Day weekend. No school Monday makes it easier for the alums-with-kids crowd to travel to a game. Fourth graders are cool and all but they don't really bring the noise.

The II pod went in on the atmosphere last pod 🤣. They used to always just be like eh it’s fine if it’s a good opponent. Now they are flat out saying it sucks and needs to be torn down and rebuilt in the offseason.

I agree our home game atmosphere can be lackluster as far as crowd excitement, but how do you fix it? I think we all know the biggest culprit is the clientele. You're never going to prevent the "blue bloods" from coming in with their seat cushions and parking their butts in the bleachers with their arms crossed and lips sealed. The "sit down in front, you paid for your seat!" crowd will never vacate ND Stadium.

Is there someone who is in charge for the Game Day and Stadium Atmosphere these days?

Guess which stadium will have the worst atmosphere in 2024 based on schedule alone (marquee matchups bolded):

Team 1 Home Games
vs. Notre Dame
vs. McNeese State
vs. Bowling Green
vs. Arkansas
vs. Missouri
vs. LSU
vs. New Mexico State
vs. Texas

Team 2 Homes Games

vs. W. Michigan
vs. South Dakota
vs. Alabama
vs. Purdue
vs. Penn State
vs. Oregon
vs. Minnesota

Team 3 Homes Games
vs. N. Illinois
vs. Miami (OH)
vs. Louisville
vs. Stanford
vs. Georgia Tech
vs. Florida State
vs. Virginia

Build a compelling schedule and the atmosphere will come.

Having a compelling schedule is great and obviously adds a ton of "juice" to the atmosphere, but it also increases your odds of losing a game. With a 12-team playoff, that tradeoff seems silly to me.

In my opinion, the schedule should feature 2 "marquee games" (top 20 type teams), 8 middle of the pack power 4 teams, and two layups.
