I am liquadating and then closing a sportings goods retail store. Retail is an awful investment, wish I would have known this 6 years ago. Our ecommerce was on point and we did well but during COVID our governor did not allow us to even sell online. After COVID things have been completely different. From staffing to skimp foot traffic.

We also have a family farm. Just not feeling that either anymore. Will probably move on from that in about a year. I have begun searching for a place to move. I am only 38 but looking for a better place to raise 13/8/5 year old kids. Good schools, good community is what we are looking for.

I'm trying to start up an e-commerce company myself with a friend. It's a long ways off from being able to provide for my family though. Right now, I treat it as a side-hustle. Why would they shut down online sales? Move to Indiana. Northern Indianapolis subs have great schools and communities.

It's not a career change, but potentially a hospital change with the option to work remote. I have an interview sometime in the next month (boss man is on vacation and said he'll schedule it when he gets back). Hopefully this works out as shit completely hit the fan in my clinic last night/this morning to the point where multiple people (including myself) almost just walked out.

We received 6 cease and desist letters. We got a few while we weren't even open. We got emailed a cease and desist because we had a note on our door telling people how to get in contact with us and how to order online. They said we should not be working at all and selling online violated the shut down order because we were not even supposed to be at the store.

We found a loophole and the state declared us a "bike shop" so we could reopen... but then received a cease and desist they saw someone leaving the store with some dumbbells. They said we could only do what makes us essential, nothing more. Someone could walk in and get their bike serviced and pay us with cash or card but if they picked up something on the way out and paid for it we violated the orders.

We had numerous conversations with the state that went nowhere. Meanwhile you could buy toys and anything you wanted at WalMart just a few blocks away... even sports and fitness equipment as well as toys and pokemon cards.

How do you keep a business going if you can't sell?

I need three and could actually use four. I’m a structural engineer and need one for my Revit/CAD I’m drafting, one for my calculations/ design software, and one for the architecture/ pdfs/ or whatever other docs I’m reading and coordinating with. Im absolutely not lazy lol.
Anything less than three is just unbearable. If you're running software's that are external from a Microsoft 365 application you need at least three. A couple people at my office have 5/6 24inchs monitors going. Always having a screen dedicated to Outlook is nice.

Welcome to NM. We had city grants we could apply for. At that time our store was behind on every single bill, even sales tax.... the only reason we did not get a few grants for $20,000 and another for $10,000 was because they said we had to be current with sales tax... we owed $7,000. I asked if I could just pay it off now so I could get the grants and they said no... the plan was to just use the grant to pay the past due sales tax. Asking businesses to be current on a bill in order to get a grant (because of hardship) was really dumb. We are a ghost town in regard to business outside of the places that sell tacos, beer, and marijuana....

Update: That interview went very well but unfortunately, they aren't looking to expand just yet. They said it could be some time next year and to check back with them.

In the meantime, this same company lost a contract with one of the Community Health hospitals in Anderson, which leaves that clinic with a vacancy. I reached out and learned it's part time and partially remote. It's literally what I've been wanting to do ever since my first kid was born. The pay cut is substantial so my wife and I are mulling it over. I haven't been offered the position but I personally know the department head so I'd say my chances are good. It's scary, but when I weigh the pros and cons, the only con is money. The pros list goes on and on. Fingers crossed!

Totally out of left field, I just accepted a job as a government contractor. Moving back to the South Bend/Elkhart area from Las Cruces, NM. Hopefully life will be simplified.
Big change. Good luck.

I did a THREE-HOUR interview in this clinic yesterday and it's even better than I first thought. The pay cut isn't as bad and there are opportunities to work more if I want (eventually leading up to full time...if I want...). 2 days in person, one remote...all three clumped together so my days off run in line with weekends. Full-time is three days in person and two remote.

I'm going to be devastated if I don't get offered the position. It's a no-brainer at this point to take it, if offered.

I was shocked myself. They literally had me meet and sit down with every department in the building. The itinerary was intimidating when I saw it, but once I got in there, I think I did ok. "It's just people, Bob, and I know people."

I did not get this position. It came down to myself and another person and they offered it to her. This sucks.

Which one of you in this thread is Tommy Rees? We know you're here.
So, I got a promotion a couple of years ago and I was reporting directly to the CEO who had been with the company for a while and had a lot of success. He wasn't the most likeable guy but he produced results and rose the company from the dumps. I also inherited a direct report who was one of the winningest, er, I mean most successful, performers in the company's history. Well, the successful performer moved on to bigger and better things, and we found a grizzled vet to replace him, but unfortunately he only stayed on for one year.

Fast forward two years later, it's my third year on the job I have a bunch of misfit toys reporting to me and all of a sudden I can't figure out how to get the team to sell or perform. To make things worse, the CEO left too, offered me a job to come with him, but I ultimately turned it down out of loyalty to my existing company. Now, I'm working for a really swell guy as the new CEO, but I think he's in a little over his head at this point and it's sink or swim for me. There has been a lot of pressure and negativity surrounding my department.

What do you guys think I should do?

Any info on their decision process? Was she hot? I haven’t applied for a job in about 10 years. I recently went through a round of jobs I put in for and I just don’t like the application process with many. There was a day a resume and cover letter were all you needed but I found most had you fill out some generic type application that was mostly “optional” demographic information. Some would even admit that the reason was some Equal opportunity quota thing so admittedly I had reservations about even getting a call back.

Thankfully, cover letters seem to be "optional" and are going away in many cases. I always hated them
