Congratulations to Navy:

On matching their most wins in a season, 11!

On a Top 25 Finish!

On the second largest season to season turnaround from 3-8 in 2018 to 11-2 in 2019!

May they go 12-1 in 2020 with an 12 game winning streak to finish the year!

This will be a tough season opener for ND. Good Navy team with months to prepare for the game. Hope ND takes care of biz.

Malcolm Perry will be gone, right?

Yes

From Navy bio:
Perry made his collegiate debut in Navy’s (2016) opener against Fordham after starter Tago Smith sustained a torn ACL in the second quarter ... did not dress for the game after missing the first three days of practice and playing in the JV game a day prior ... cheering his teammates on, he was pulled out of the stands and dressed by the start of the second half ... entered the game with 38 seconds left in the third quarter and played the entire fourth quarter ... carried the ball seven times for 30 yards and featured a long run of 16 yards

Ran for over 1,000 yds as slot back backup QB in ‘17

Ran for over 1,000 yds again in ‘18

Ran for over 2000 yds in ‘19

Glad to see him move on!

Same goes for us. We’ll have the most speed we have had in a long time at WR. Plus most of the defense returning. I take the Irish.

The last time we played in the champs sports/camping world bowl we started the next season playing Navy in Ireland. Interesting.

The timing of this game is perfect. More than one week to prepare and a week off to recover.

Don't know how we lose this but who knows

No reason we can’t have a repeat showing from 2019 or even 2012 in my opinion.

Yeah, they said in the Bowl broadcast he will be first guy to take advantage of the new rule that allows him to go into the NFL without service time. They think he's a slot receiver in the pros.

general sale tickets in Ireland (ticketmaster.ie) go on sale March 20th. This is being billed as being for sale for folks "outside of the US" only..

I’ll set my alarm. Last time it was a real scramble to get anything. Sold out in no time at all.

Would anybody be interested in tickets if I'm able to scoop them up in the lottery?

Tickets go on sale here on Friday. Don't even know if the game is going to go ahead or if people will travel.

A few weeks ago I was going to buy a load for people who wanted to travel. At the beginning of the week I was questioning things, see my post above. In the end I just got two for myself. I agree, I’d be surprised if it happens in Dublin, but I reckon I can get my money back. It’s a shame because I was really excited about it but other things are more important at the moment. Being an asthmatic in his 60s I’m not venturing far outside the house.

We need to get some VBUCK bets going on with this. I feel that whatever happens with the next month or two, the CFB and NFL will go on. Its some 5-6 months away and I just feel football will be the way people can get used to being alive again.... Let's hope we are still called the USA by then...lol.

I don't really have any doubt CFB will continue and continue on time. But the university has been very proactive about all of this, and I wouldn't be surprised if international athletics fall to the backburner for a while.

The talk here is that there won’t be any major sporting events during 2020. No comments from the GAA or rugby which would look forward to attendances of 50,000 to 80,000 for their major matches. Major rugby internationals are slated for November and the hurling and Gaelic football should be in full swing at the moment. As I said in the Covid thread ND won’t have to make the decision, it will be enforced by the government here.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/other-spor...lege-football-clash-still-slated-to-go-ahead/

hope springs eternal

This summer sporting calendar has been decimated but there remains one curious exception.

The Aer Lingus College Football Classic scheduled for August appears to be going ahead as planned at the Aviva Stadium.

The game between American football rivals Navy and Notre Dame is still due to go ahead on 29 August despite an Irish government ban on all gatherings in excess of 5,000 people until September.

Organisers told RTÉ Sport that the game does not require a licence, so would therefore not be covered by that regulation, but that they will make a final call on whether it can proceed in June.
