Yea, that CJ turnover can’t be glossed over. Hindsight 20/20 and all but we kick a FG there and we kick a FG to win the game at the end. All the BS with refs aside. A remedial play CJ just completely flubbed. Unreal from a guy that, I think, we all thought could carry the team if needed.

CJ spike was a TO, and clearly costly.

Debatable as there's a forward motion, and it's not like the ball just falls to the ground.
The bigger issue is it was ruled a spike on the field and the play was blown dead. I don't know how that gets overturned as a fumble and a turnover then, if the play is blown dead then most players aren't jumping on that ball.

Look. We got fucked by the refs. Certainly terribly officiating. But that’s why we emphasized leaving no doubt. We left a lot of doubt tonight. Super disappointed all around. Carr Denbrok they all deserve some blame. But beat Miami and nobody remembers.

I mean blame this coach. This call. This play. The refs? Dude i dont know what the fuck i just watched. 24 we lost to niu bc we were too fucking stupid to see Leonard was hurt and win running the ball with a backup. Lets hope this does the light the fire like 24. Why? Because we here are powerless to do anything else. All other words is useless cope. We have good coaches. We have good players. Killer kick ass captain leadership is missing. Maybe this ignites it. Lets hope.

I am genuinely confused by the rules in the CJ fumbled. I mean, he fucked that up, no question about it. But if the play is blown dead you can’t challenge that, right?

Apparently all the call is right there. But whistles blows our lineman and proximate players make no effort to recover so how does post whistle their only guy still soing things count intellectually as a clean recovery

I would like to see more vocal leadership, guys lighting fires on the sideline when we need a wakeup call.

[EDIT] KVA is a leader

I've been thinking about how, like we got a clock management guy, we should get a personnel management guy. Someone actively keeping track of all the different rotations and who needs to be in for different situations. I get that its kind of the position coach's job, but I think we need someone assisting at the play-calling level to optimize personnel usage.
Well we need to fire him. We reached the 20 second mark with 2 timeouts remaining.

They lied to Pereira 100%

Meh, they had us clear the field in '05 after the Bush Push game and the clock hit 0. Refs screwed us in that one too.

The really shitty thing is the bullshit fumble spike at the end of the 1st half, that play was blown dead! I don't know how review turns that into a turnover. Even if we don't get a TD there and we kick a FG....then we kick another FG at the end of regulation and the whole no call on the PI/:01 left on the clock isn't an issue.
Have we confirmed the whistle blew at the end of the first half?

WHo is Pariah?

This stuff is also on the coaching staff. Freeman needs to make a fuss. If he’s irate on the sidelines or asking for review, everyone is now aware as the game progresses and there’s more scrutiny.

Seconds were shaved in favor of BYU several times on the final drive, and it was never addressed.

I agree, after the game, when the Fox team pointed out on a later game halftime show that there was 1 second remaining, I checked a few plays before the final one and I noticed on Gilbert’s crossing pattern towards the sideline that took it down to 4 seconds, his knee clearly hit the ground at a solid 5 seconds but the keeper let it count down one more second to 4 seconds left. We easily should have had one more play.

This one should have been a delay of game penalty too with the flopping, right before the Big 12 somehow reversed a blown dead spike to make it a fumble.

Okay so the whistle did not blow on the CJ spike attempt. But that is a clear defensive DOG. The Cougar gets up and then drops himself on top of our player so he cannot get back to the line. The first down was made with :09 remaining.

Leonard Moore outta be ashamed. CJ Carr outta be ashamed.

Neither of them have ANY business foregoing their senior year after this abysmal performance. Y'all better pull your heads out of your fucking asses. You both were fucking pathetic.

I'll also say this. If this team loses to Miami and finishes 10-2 or worse, both Denbrock and Ash need to be given their walking papers. This is officially win or you're fired territory. They've had 3 opportunities against top 20 squads and both of them have flailed when it mattered.

I’ll go back and read this thread at some point so sorry if I am repeating what has already been stated.

I am sure there are a ton of fire this coach and that coach, but these players are now professional athletes and they bear a huge part of of what went wrong today. ESPECIALLY our so called stars.

Traore - inexcusable. It was absolutely text book targeting. Easiest review ever.

Moore - just not himself last night. He flat out didn’t play well.

KVA - completely outplayed by the BYU linebackers. They were difference makers on their defense. The only ND linebacker that showed well was Sneed. KVA is supposed to be one of the best in the nation - he isn’t showing that. Did he come back too quickly from surgery?

Carr - I know there is gonna be a lot of angst thrown at Denbrock, but Carr was not good. His absolute refusal to throw the ball across the middle is killing this passing game. He loves the fades and back shoulder throws too much. It makes defending our route trees too easy. Even his completions to the TEs tonight were outside throws. Throw in his fumble and terrible miss to Faison early on and he just wasn’t good.

Very frustrating game. Our stars have to earn their money - last night they didn’t.

Had some time to reflect on the game last night. Regardless of the last play of the game we should have put ourselves into that situation. We got a 40 million dollar roster and they most likely got a 12-15 million dollar roster.
1. Mike Denbrock has to go after this year. The play call has been absolutely god awful. He called one screen play yesterday that had positive yards. He hasn’t called a jet sweep all year (Mylan Graham, Faison, Bubba Frazier). We never throw to the middle of the middle, everything is outside the pocket to the left or to the right. Where the hell is play action? Where the hell are the trick plays?
2. CJ Carr was just down right bad. Miss throws, missed decisions that cost us. Instead of taking a short 5-7 yard throw he wants to throw it 20-30 yards on 2nd and 3 every fucking time. He needs another year idc what anyone says.
3. Why aren’t we calling more plays to get the RB’s involved in the passing game?
4. Playing the starting WR’s the entire game without putting in any subs is a fire able offense especially playing in the high altitude. Zero reason why the underclassmen can’t get on the field especially if the WR’s on the current roster can’t even get separation when BYU’s top corner went out. IDC if you can’t block, other teams have zero problems getting Freshman on the field. Enough of the crap that other top teams aren’t playing Freshman that’s bullshit excuse. The transfer portal was a huge miss at WR. Coulda had Reed Harris whose 6’5 and had 7 TD’s for Arizona State yet we wanted to bank on two what ifs.
5. Playing Walton 5 carries someone should be fired.
6. Ash i’ll give some credit because he made adjustments maybe a little too late but at least the defense came out and played tough the second half.
7. The lack of a pass rush is concerning. Why didn’t we bring pressure at all, no KVA blitzes, Bowen, ect. Idk throw some exotic stunts or blitz packed at them.
8. Moore was awful, Mckinney was bad, Young didn’t do anything, Shuler was god awful. Sanders comes in and makes a play right away.
9. Only guys who should be leaving for the draft are Moore and Boubacar.
10. Season isn’t over it’s time to put up or shut up. Beat Miami and we are in the playoffs, lose and we are back to where we were last year.

Questions I would ask Freeman:

1. With arguably an extremely talented secondary, was there a reason for staying in zone so much?

2. What was the thought process on the offensive possession after the interception? The play calling seemed more about playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Where was the “leave no doubt” mentality? Reason Walton didn’t get looks? Thought process on running CJ there?

3. Was there opportunities to exploit the middle of the field passing more instead of simply trying to fade your way to a win?

4. Two years in a row the Irish have lost games where they were clearly the better, more talented team. Last season it cost you an opportunity to potentially play for a national championship. This season’s margin for error just took a major hit. What’s the message to the team? The fans? What are you going to do to try and eliminate this recurring issue of losing to teams you clearly should’ve beat? What have you learned over the course of last year and so far this year?

For the record I’m a MMFF fan. Really good young coach. But he’s going to have to look inward for improvement and he’s going to have to have some tough conversations with his staff. The season obviously isn’t lost at this point. But not learning and improving as a staff will make it difficult to get the results wanted moving forward. It cost the Irish last season… it can’t cost them again this year.

Defense was called and played in a way that left us on our heels instead of being aggressive. Intentionally never blitzing, contain style pass rush with zone. Yuck.

Play predictability and pre-snap changes becoming too predictable is a problem. Responded to the double mug look pretty poorly all night.

Knapp looked like he had been paid off on the last drive. Gave up 3 pressures. Just odd.

I am usually okay with refs "letting them play" but then when you only make incredibly huge game changing calls it's like WTF.

Replay centers and refs this year have really shown their ineptitude and ability to be affected by outside influences.

Big XII admitted there should have been one more play. Lol

Two times in that game we needed to drive and we went 3 and out, 5:30 left in first half and 9:00 left in game. Carr missed so many opportunities, but now they are in one game playoff mode. They did it to themselves, and the narrative will get louder.

If you think that was bad, watch what the Miami offense does in the pass game. Malachi Toney is going to absolutely fucking shred us.
