BVG has to go. End of story. Pay big bucks to a proven, big name D coordinator.
I'll go with option two since he showed the same type of pussy play calling all night long putting off the 2 point conversion. That's the same shit he's done how many times?? FSU Clemson and now this game. There is zero justification for putting off the two point conversion until the last play, and it very well could have come back and bit him again tonight had we scored that last TD. You go for the 2 point conversion ASAP so you know exactly how many possessions you need to win the game. Putting it off until the last possible minute basically puts the game on a coin flip. You don't get the conversion at that point and the game is basically done. It's a pussy play call intended to make it appear that the game was within reach and had that one final play gone our way we would have sent the game to OT, when in reality had you taken the 2 point conversion earlier and failed the same way you would have been able to try and squeeze out and extra possession.

What about an Eddie O or Bo Pellini? Some guys that have a little fire under them, can recruit and can maybe not give up 30pts a game
#NotreDame now 103rd Pass-eff. D, 99 Rush D, 102 Total D, 94 Scoring D, 89 3rd Down D, 104 4th Down D, 93 Red Zone D (out of 128 im FBS). #FIREBVG

BK called a very unimaginative game until after it was out of reach. If the D and BVG were the only problems that would be one thing but its not the case. BK is the captain of a sinking ship and the responsibility lies with him. Every year he hangs onto the job past this season is just a waste.
If Kelly wants to keep his job, he needs to put the blame on someone. BVG is the easy target.
Irish Illustrated
Bryan DriskellIn three games, Notre Dame has allowed 8 scoring drives of at least 75 yards.
We're probably a 5 loss team right now. Stanford, Miami, and then one of USC (who looks horrible), VT, etc.
This team is just bad. Texas losing to Cal right now (giving up 35 points in a half) proving that they actually aren't that good.
I was fooled into think our offense could carry the day but they're clearly not as elite as I thought.
Soooooo.... I guess just hope recruiting class holds together?
Agreed with all the above. But we're still Irish faithful.
Gotta have faith that Kelly will make some adjustments.
Feel like Van Gorder is under the gun, but he's dealing with major adversity in his secondary and the fault with last night comes down to a blown coverage by Cole Luke in a place where you just can't be undisciplined like he was in that down and distance given the situation. I mean the defensive play call was good...
Brian Kelly chewed out BVG and Lyght on the third down conversion to Corley.
BVG won't be here much longer.
I don't expect Lyght to be here next year either.

It's not just BVG. This program doesn't have any identity. It's a hodgepodge of philosophies, mostly on offense. Kelly seems to be a reactionary leader. His adjustments as a coach are usually a day late and without 100% commitment.
Example: hiring Sanford to turn the offensive room on its ear. But, he'll still be calling the plays and Denbrock will still sculpt the offensive playbook.
Has anyone noticed much difference since Sanford got here besides a handful of trick plays?
They don't run the read option well. They preach having a tough, physical line, but the offense is finesse. It's hard for me to believe Hiestand is overrated judging by the success his guys are having in the NFL.
Maybe it's the 7-on-7, fast-paced practice style of Kelly? You can't flip a switch and play physically on Gameday if you don't practice that way; O-line and front 7.

Hell, at this point I would take Cousin Eddie or Bo Duke over BVG.
Hell, I'd take Daisy Duke over BVG. Those jean shorts had better coverage than the ND secondary has this year
Besides, she'd be a great lockerroom coach
He's just a bad coach. Plain and simple. No need for detail.
Kelly on if VanGorder is the right coordinator for this defense: "Abolsutely. Without question. That’s not even part of the conversation."
I am sick of Kelly
Was that after the game?

If Swarbrick won't fire BK, Fr. Jenkins needs to step in and force the issue.
If Fr. Jenkins won't, well, I know several HC priests that would. They do not accept the 'academic restrictions' BS excuse. In any case, Jenkins was hired because he was willing to fire Willingham. And we're well past year 3 with BK.
P.S. If we can get Herman, we need to fire BK. Alas, I think Houston will get into the Big 12 and he'll stay put.
