I saw a vantage point this morning where Rudolph punches MG either in the abdomen or in the crotch right before MG swings the helmet. Nobody is excusing MG and it looks like everyone here agrees he shouldn’t play again this year. My only point was MR tried to take MGs helmet and then apparently punched him. He should have been ejected too was my only point there. I liked what Willie M and J Jones said on this, basically.

But yeah you can’t let it get to where it went,... I’d suspect MG doesn’t play again until sometime into next season, rightfully so. It’s embarrassing.

I have to agree about Rudolph's role in all of this. Why the heck was he trying to rip off MG's helmet? He started the whole thing yet seems to have gotten zero criticism. I didn't see where he punched MG, I'll have to look again.

Yes, it is purely coincidence that the Steelers and the undisciplined clownshow run by Mike Tomlin are totally innocent in the whole "are they dirty?" study.

Nevermind that the inspiring, everybody-loves-a-feel-good-story posterboy Ryan Shazier got himself hurt for... you guessed it, trying to put a dirty hit on someone.

It's convenient to ignore that the Steelers have problems when the Bengals or Browns are involved. We can ignore a Steeler's coach pulling Dre Kirkpatrick's hair on the sidelines for no reason, and we can ignore Joey Porter (as a coach) trying to fight players on the field, as long as the other team did bad things too.

The Steelers and their bullshit gets whitewashed because they've won Superbowls, and because it's easy to put the onus on the Bengals or the Browns when things get ugly.

Burfict was an animal, and deserves to be banned from the league. I won't dispute that, period. I was embarrassed that Marvin Lewis continued to put him on the field whenever he wasn't hurt or suspended, and I was thrilled when Paul Guenther took him to Oakland. Pacman Jones was a douchebag to highest degree.

I can admit those things. No one will admit that the Steelers are as dirty as anyone, and then they're allowed to play the victim when things go south*.

What Pouncey did was defend his QB. He should for sure get a several game suspension for kicking him in the head, but his helmet was still on and it wasn't a real dangerous threat as opposed to what Myles did.

The only penalty that would fit would be a lifetime ban for Garrett. If they want to suspend Rudolph for a game or two that's fine too. He isnt innocent.

I think Haynesworth got 6 games for ripping off a helmet and stomping a guy and this was about 100x worse. I think ESPN article said nobody has done this since the 50's.

The reason Rudolph got upset and reacted was Garrett's need to throw Rudolph to the ground after he had thrown the pass. It was clearly uncalled for, especially since the outcome of the game was already settled.

Only time I've ever seen a player use a helmet as a weapon like this before was the '07 Bama-Arky game. An Arky DL ripped a Bama OL player's helmet off and hit him in the forehead with it. QBs get roughed up fairly often. They are cracking down on it. He did get drove into the ground, somewhat. His reaction was a little over the top also. You poke the bear and sometimes he bites. Garrett has shown a propensity for violence in the past and probably is looking at a long road back. Rightfully so. As for Rudolph, I would like to punch him in the face just for being a douche. But I am old and politically incorrect.

Should this incident have happened outside of a football stadium, been viewed by police who arrested everyone for felony assault and battery, that there were witnesses and that it was caught on videos, they all would be facing time and have little defense.

The criminal investigation into Kareem Hunt's assault, which occurred in Cleveland, was dropped because the woman refused to pursue criminal charges. Hunt was released by the team before the investigation concluded. Hunt was suspended for eight games.

I think the real funny thing that's getting missed in all this is how many terrible roughing the passer calls their are for slamming/body weight etc.

And in this instance the refs were completely ok with Garrett double spin tackling a QB with no penalty flag.

I think the refs could have ran in much faster once they clearly saw that Garrett believed Rudolph still had the ball and wasn't going down.
