Because the guy played basically the entire last season hurt (and showed up to give everything he had left for the team) I refuse to crap on Mayfield, and certainly don't think the circumstances allow some great final judgement on what his future could be. It's another of these moronic media witch hunts that we see piling on momentum to trash individuals without any sense of balanced or nuanced judgement. We see this all the time by mediocre "analysts" who substitute screaming and smirking about people for research and insight. Sadly we see it even here on IE on all manner of people commentary. I say let the guy make his own future. Maybe in 5-8 years we'll have justifications for whatever half-baked ideas we spew forth. Mayfield IS a liability to the Browns due to their economic moves, so they need to get him off the salary mountain. That's all we REALLY know given the injury year problems. Someone else should get this guy into camp and see if he's healthy and if so what does he bring to the position with a sound team and offensive system. SOMETHING was "mysteriously" wrong with the Browns last season and it wasn't all Baker Mayfield.
When you are the #1 overall pick in the draft, I don't think it's unfair to hold someone to a higher standard.
Four years is plenty of sample size for a QB. Baker was behind Daniel fricken Jones in two of his healthy years in QBR.
He's been supported by a great running game and has enjoyed plus weapons with guys like Jarvis Landry, Odell and one of the better TEs in the league in
David Njoku. If you want to say he's a serviceable QB, sure, go ahead. The Browns clearly feel like he wasn't their guy and sold a TON to bring in a controversial franchise QB to replace their former #1 overall pick. Idk what else to tell you.
Again, I've alread laid out my bias towards the guy, never liked his cocksure attitude at OU and have no love for him. But I believe there's a reason why teams haven't been clamoring for his services after the QB carousal has already spun this offseason. But I digress...
