In a way, you have to respect these guys who have all of the money in the world but just can't step away fully from this game.

If I was handed a check for tens of millions of dollars, for getting FIRED, you'd catch me on a long sabbatical in Europe, all-inclusive resorts, etc. He may be a doucher, but he's a football adict doucher.

For me, Coach was always more willing to give insightful information about actual on-the-field football play than any other coach-style commentator. I expect that he'll be the same as a color commentator. Unfortunately (again just for me; I know not for "you" IE), I'll never get to hear him do a game in his new job. (Coach Garrett would/will tell you more about real football than most, but I think that Kelly had better and franker insights. Most ex-coaches, in my opinion, really stink at this ... including Saban, although I can't conceive why. It's like they are intimidated by TV as to making a "social" mistake.)

Brian Kelly will brag about his first real win as a head coach being against North Dakota State during his first broadcast of one of their games.

I immediately wonder if there is some clause in his buyout requiring attempt to work in the industry for offset. It may be legally hard to say he is completely unemployable and he had to pick something up.

I'm sure there is a clause like that and from my perspective it's pretty obvious this is what he's doing. His comments about looking into AI for coaching and his taking CBS analysis roles all scream "quiet quitting".

My favorite clause compliance was Bo Pelini taking the Youngstown State job after getting fired for making Nebraska as good as Nebraska can hope to be.

I think YSU was paying him like $200k/yr while Nebraska was paying like $1.5 mil/yr.

How quaint salaries were even 10ish years ago.
