McVeigh didn't start a war because he wasn't part of a larger terrorism network. Had nothing to do with his race.

Consider: if it turns out that a Swedish terror network perpetrated this crime, is actively targeting U.S. civilians, and the Swedish gov't was harboring them, then we would surely bomb the crap out of Stockholm. Believe it or not, their being white wouldn't stop anything.

Really nailed it.

Not buying that picture. If you look at the way his arms are infront of him, he could just as easily be holding his bag. I do this alot when I'm tired of it being on my back and I'm just standing around. Sounds weird, but from my point of view, it's logical.

I'm not going to get sucked into these pictures of "bag/no bag" speculation. I'll simply sit back and wait until something a little more concrete becomes available. What if this guy is innocent. He now has to live with this pictures floating around with everyone thinking it's him.

Those Westboro pieces of human garbage will come to regret their decision if they show up here. I don't think people are in really in the mood for dealing with them with any sort of patience. If they bring their hate here, the good people of Boston will shove back down their throats.

So this thread was filled with random posts, off-topic comments, and much wild speculation. Nobody seemed to mind, but when one guy says something (albeit very distastefully) that goes against the general consensus, this thread now is reserved to serve only one purpose?

I don't get it. Why can't some people just learn to ignore something if it bothers them? I personally like to hear what is going on from every possible angle/viewpoint., and welcome any links with information, no matter how far -fetched they may be.

This is a tragedy, and nobody here is not heartbroken because of it. Why can't people discuss information that pertains to the subject in a civil manner without being attacked?

Dr. David King was just interviewed on CNN. He ran the marathon, got called in. Did five surgeries, has been working for 40 hours. Did in all in Afghanistan. This is a hero.

What are the odds it gets violent?

Just know that the Westboro church gets most of their funding through litigation after they're assaulted. They're disgusting, but violence and attention only encourages their existence.

My guess is 100%, but that's what they want. Don't they fund their little cause with the lawsuit money from goading people into assaulting them?

*sorry Hammer, must have been typing when you posted that

I don't think violence is really the issue. I don't think they will be able to get anywhere near where they want to go and it will be a terribly unpleasant experience all around for them.

I remember reading that at a soldier's funeral in Mississippi the local cops took some Westboro members in for "suspicion of a recent crime" that was conveniently during the funeral, and they parked in all their cars at the hotel and conveniently all the tow trucks couldn't come get them until after the service.

Everything I'm hearing out of Medford is to keep it non violent. Don't give these wack jobs the press they want and to let the Campbell family have their peace.

I haven't heard anymore plans other than the vigil tonight.

Bingo.

As much as I hate even addressing wbbc
Welcome to America folks. Any decent person realizes this church is a hate group, and water trash at that. But they're looking for reactions. Attention. And court cases.

Plain and simple, as much as they deserve an old fashion beantown beatdown. Far better to ignore them. As hard as that is.

I didn't even know the victum was a Campbell until right now... It would be hard to not get agressive if that was one of mine...

Virtually all of Westboro's funding comes via the Civil Rights Attorney's Fees Award Act of 1976. They adopt an outrageous stance, picket in controversial locations, and then sue in Federal court when their protests are "unlawfully" disrupted. Since their protests technically fall under the First Amendment, even though they can't prove any real damages, they win attorneys' fees.

The Phelps family is probably the most successful group of professional trolls in recorded history. The only effective response to them is apathy. But outrage sells well on cable news channels, so that's probably not possible.

Haven't been able to keep up with everything going on ( I just read this last page, so I really don't want to waste time and go back and read through everything)..... So what do we actually know at this point?

I'd rather wait for the truth. Seriously, what's wrong with the following:

"An explosion has happened at the finish line of the Boston marathon. As we gather the facts and details, we'll keep you informed." END

Instead, we get people that will make that opening statement and then start speculating and spreading rumors and this guy said this, and my source said that...bla bla bla.

You don't have to wait until the 6pm news. But we should all be willing to wait until the actual truth is found out. Instead, we feed off of the drama and speculation.

Watch Al Jazeera, best news channel there is.

Hopefully embedding this works. Really special moment at the Bruins-Sabres game tonight. I don't know if there has been any time I can remember where the National Anthem has been sung with more passion than by the crowd at that game. I wasn't old enough to remember much of the aftermath of 9/11, so I'm sure there were numerous times that it was then, but I am still so impressed by the city that I love so much.

Boston Strong.

The Yankee playoff run post 9/11 was easily the best sports 'thing' I have ever encountered that did not involve a team of mine... chills and tears... and lots of both.

"9 Innings from 9/11" is a great documentary on all of that...

I tried to find some videos of that just now after watching the pregame to the Bruins game, so thanks I'll definitely have to check that out!

With all due respect, you should seriously reevaluate where you get your news. The idea that the US could arrest someone in Afghanistan, never mind Pakistan, as part of an investigation into this incident is absurd, and no real news organization would publish that quote with such an extreme lack of analysis.

On a completely unrelated note, the way the people of Boston have responded has made me even more proud to be wearing the flag on my right shoulder out here in Afghanistan.

Sorry Pat, This sounds like Islam baiting.

I think it is kind of ironic, because we are on a pretty clear path that this is a domestic thing. There is always a chance that some foreign group could be involved; but most of those foreign groups that would have loved to do this are not even operating with their own dicks in their hands do to the ATF, FBI, And Grahambo.

The bomb placement wasn't the way terrorists groups operate.

Hydrogen peroxide wasn't used for the bombs.

Jihadist groups are silent about the attack.

This isn't the kind of attack that would appeal to a jhadist group.

Nothing about the bomb sophistication sounds like a foreign inspiration, it appears way too sophisticated.
