He had a few plays that werent perfect, but overall did a pretty solid job in the run game not getting oushed back and turning his man out of the hole.Man, I'm going to have to rewatch the game and focus on Jags. Because he looked like he was struggling to me.
Wasn't there a play where the DE did a spin move then put Jagasah on his ass?He had a few plays that werent perfect, but overall did a pretty solid job in the run game not getting oushed back and turning his man out of the hole.
Who were the 5 freshman offensive starters? I got Greathouse, Faison, Jagusah, and Love. Who am i missing?Man the freshman and sophomore classes have some talent. They didn’t just step up and play well against a (sorta) P5, they absolutely dominated for their first time in the spotlight. We started 5(!) true freshman on offense and looked very competent. We are going to be very, very good moving forward.
Great creativity and flow with playcalling today to compliment Angelli’s skills and the running back strength. Whoever designed the route tree for this game…(insert Michael Scott “Thank You” gif). Night and day difference from the season (pre Wake Forest) to this game. Also helps having healthy WR’s.
To wrap up, I stated it after the Wake Forest game, but man did we absolutely kick the shit out of teams this year when we won. That is impressive. I think Denbrock and great coaching on offensive will allow Freeman to take the next step for the program.
There may have been, but overall he was a True frosh making his first start and lining up across from their best defensive player on the field and did a pretty solid job. He seemed to settle in as the game went on, and also had a couple plays where his body language showed he wasnt as effective as he thought he should have been even if his man didnt have any impact on the play….i liked that, Not settling.Wasn't there a play where the DE did a spin move then put Jagasah on his ass?
Flanagan also started.Who were the 5 freshman offensive starters? I got Greathouse, Faison, Jagusah, and Love. Who am i missing?
You’re not kidding on the route trees. On the first touchdown to Thomas, Faison was also wide open slanting for probably an even easier TD, then the route on the Faison TD was glorious. Perfect example of scheming a guy open. There were consistently open receivers on almost every pass play.
I saw that too on the Raridon play (TE WIDE open in the back of the endzone). Some very effective crossers and zone beaters too. Loved creating some easy throws on the perimeter by rolling Angeli too. He throws well on the move and doesnt panic when pressured.Flanagan also started.
The third and goal that Raridon got knocked out of his hands was also one of the most creative plays we ran all year. Motioned Faison to the backfield, fake handoff, fake jet sweep, and 2 tight ends releasing. The tight end in the middle of the field was wide open but Angeli didn’t have time to see him. Almost a helluva of a play by Angeli/Raridon.
I admit it’s recency bias but I’m questioning if Riley can stay healthy for 12+ gamesI’d be willing to bet Minchey is a bigger flight risk than Angeli. He’s the odd man out in this scenario.
Angeli has to know Leonard isn’t a Hartman type prized haul, and is a higher injury risk due to style of play.

I heard this on the broadcast and was like wtf did you just say, Hartman?

The vibes I got from this statement was he wanted to play in the game, but the coaches told him to sit so Steve could get his chance.
He was going to play until he thought he was too good to play in the Sun Bowl. He had zero reason to sit out.The vibes I got from this statement was he wanted to play in the game, but the coaches told him to sit so Steve could get his chance.
Yeah I agree, just had some clunky wording on live TV. The biggest takeaway from that interview was his unnecessary apology to the fans.I thought he was just doing his normal "blah blah blah here at ND has been great" type of thing and it kind of came out stupid. Was hilarious, tho.
I don't know about you, but I was much more interested in watching Angeli than Hartman. I'm glad he made that decision, no matter the reasonHe was going to play until he thought he was too good to play in the Sun Bowl. He had zero reason to sit out.
I think he was going to play until he realized he’d be out there with one starting OL and two WRs and decided the Sun Bowl like that wasn’t worth the risk.He was going to play until he thought he was too good to play in the Sun Bowl. He had zero reason to sit out.
Most QB's in Sam's situation would've sat out. Had ND made the playoffs I would've expected everyone to play.I think he was going to play until he realized he’d be out there with one starting OL and two WRs and decided the Sun Bowl like that wasn’t worth the risk.
But either way. I’ve got no beef with Sam. He’s a class act.
DAMM WE LOOKED GOOD!!!
My guys: The OLine showed how deep our talent is. Jagusah was MAULING people all game long. The interior line looked powerful. In the first half, we had two sacks that we gave. The second of these was a coverage sack, and Jagusah actually pancaked his man but he fell at Angeli's feet and Angeli stumbled into Baker's man who finally was getting there. The first sack was the only blown one. There Jagusah was destroying his guy. Our three interior guys had three opponents to deal with who were working an elaborate circle stunt. Baker had no one. He went temporarily to sleep staring into space. Schrauth had a hard time seeing the looper coming round. Baker was to slow to focus. BillieS tried to reach out but couldn't and Tosh never reacted until it was too late. THAT WAS A GOOF WHICH CAN BE FIXED --- it was purely mental mostly on Tosh's part. Billie will see the loop quicker in time.
I laughed late in the game when the commentators (who I thought were just fine) remarked on how we had all these second teamers in --- and noticed that they included Kristovic, Abshur, Wagner, etc --- OLinemen that Oregon State would have killed for just then. Our room is as loaded as the coaching can take them.
Outside my guys: WOW the WRs showed up. AND the TEs. AND Angeli --- what a shame that he won't get the full play he deserves.
And the D --- nothing need be said, as long as our DLine is as it looks we're going to be, and it will be hard for anybody to penetrate our DBackfield (ALL of whom will play in the NFL.)
DAMM WE LOOKED GOOD!!!
Hence my recency biasHe played all 13 games in 2022.
