Run game is inconsistent. I hope next year we can establish a good run game.
We Good.
We beat Stanford to go 10-2 (the top edge of what people thought reasonably possible) with one of the biggest flurries of important injuries in years (our two best OLinemen plus practically the whole Defensive Tackle and Defensive End positions.) Damm impressive.
We get a good bowl (have faith --- we bring TV ratings as gifts --- AND fans in the seats) and roll to 11-2. We finish the year in the Top Ten having played only one bad game all season among the following top 25-30 teams in the country (GA, MI, VT, Navy, VA, USC --- people ignorer that Navy, VT, and USC have put it together in the end.)
Coach puts up 10+ wins again. Only ND fans gripe about it.

Bama, OSU, Clemson would complain but don't have to.
Many other teams complain with no right to.
I agree with the rest though.
LOL UGA fired Richt after a 10 win season. They fired him with a resume that out paces BK:Coach puts up 10+ wins again. Only ND fans gripe about it.
Richt was hired as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs before the 2001 season, replacing Jim Donnan. Richt's teams won two Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships (2002 and 2005), six SEC Eastern Division titles (2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2012), and nine bowl games. His teams represented the SEC in three BCS bowl appearances with a record of 2–1, and finished in the top ten of the final AP Poll seven times (2002–2005, 2007, 2012, 2014). His 2008 team also finished in the top ten of the coaches poll.[9

Man if we can't beat this Stanford team and break the hex that Palo Alto has on us...I just don't know. We'll never win there again I guess.Couple of points about today-1-Flutie was very very good that is the way it should be done-2-points made by Simms and others about this being a classy place and you can not win every game was a point well taken with me knowing what I know about Notre Dame. Get one more win and thumb your nose at the haters-this was a great performance by a solid team. GO GET STANFORD'S %@&.
I only see us with 11 wins if we don’t make the NY6 though. Unfortunately as great as these wins feel our NY6 matchup will probably not favor us. We are a good team and have rose to the occasion after having our rival humiliate us in prime time. That being said we haven’t beaten anyone on the level of who we will play in the NY6. If we get a mid level bowl (I think the only other bowl we are eligible for is the camping word bowl but I’m not for sure what else we can go to) we could still get 11 wins and that’s a damn fine season no matter what anyone says, especially if our seniors get to go out holding a trophy rather than being embarrassed by a superior team.
Everyone can say what they want about Flutie, I too was extremely sick of hearing him trash ND on a weekly basis, but I have to give him some credit this year. He has been a lot more complimentary towards ND and his bias seemed to go from 75-25 for the oppenents to at least 60-40 pro ND this year. Ive been shocked a few times of how complimentary he has been towards Book. He definitely still has his moments but I think hes starting to get it, ND fans do not like his commentary. Chris Simms seems to be falling more in love with ND every broadcast. LOL UGA fired Richt after a 10 win season. They fired him with a resume that out paces BK:
ND 501 yards Total Offense to Boston's 191 yards, almost 300 yds below their season average of 484 yds.
BC scored 7 pts, 26.8 pts below their average, their lowest for the season.
AJ Dillon ran for 56 yds, his lowest production for the season.
BC passed for 63 yds, 139 short of their average for the season.
ND had a balanced offense with 252 yds rushing on 44 carries and 249 passing on 41 throws.
ND's running game produced 84 more yds than the 168 season average, a 50% gain.
AJ Dillon had 56 yds on 14 carries, Ian Book and Phil Jurkovec ran for a combined 108 yds on 17 carries.
Tony Jones ran for 5 more yds than Dillon on just one more carry.
Lenzy got 5 more yds than Dillon on just one carry.
Our QBs and WR accounted for 169 of our 252 yards.
That's great, isn't it? Or do you want to give those yards back?
BC had the biggest, nastiest RB on the field by far and ND's had 4 players outrushed him. And yes, three of them were two QBs and a WR. That was great!
BTW, ND's starting RB, who got the job through injuries ahead of him, also outrushed Dillon on the day. And walk-on Mike Assaf had a higher ypc number than Dillon. The only unsuccessful ND rushers were C'Bo, Henry, and Jahmir who combined for 11 yds on 9 carries ... out of the team's 44.
Holtz counted all his QBs yards in the rushing attack. I don't recall him deducting Rice's, Mirer's, MacDougal's, or even Powlus's. He took what he could take and that included a stable of RBs, and highly productive FBs, and he also took ALL the rushing yards Rocket got as a Flanker ... in the air or on the ground.
Devine counted Montana's runs just as Ara counted his QBs strategic rushing yards.
There's a lot of Georgia fans that want Richt back. Smart hasn't exactly gotten them anything more than Richt did, and some of them complain that Kirby doesn't lean on the running game as much as Richt did. I could certainly see that when Georgia came to South bend in 2017, that could have been a lopsided game if they feed Chubb and Michel more.
Controversial(?): He looks a bit p!ssed. He has a (cocky?) smile all the time, but since it is the same whether he has a bad play or a good one, I see him as immature still --- and he IS still very young. This guy has been Batman all his life and isn't happy being Robin. I'm going to feel a lot more confident in him taking over if I see a little more personality growth. All of this is based on very thin "evidence" (sideline demeanor and after on-field plays), so others will know better --- which is why I'm putting it out here.
Yeh agree jump on board Flutie and stay 60/40 we know its tough being BC grad but that effort was real nice-you can tell he likes Book and sees he could be even better with a running game. I wonder what this group could have done with a power running game.Everyone can say what they want about Flutie, I too was extremely sick of hearing him trash ND on a weekly basis, but I have to give him some credit this year. As for the NBCSN broadcast, I enjoyed it for what I watched but had to change the channel after the 1st Q bc of the small screen. I get what they are trying to do and I like the idea, but it needs work. They missed some plays and the play by play was late on numerous occasions. I guess thats why they did it for the last game, work the kinks out during the off-season.
