Rightfully so. I felt like I was watching an NFL game. That’s not a compliment.
Seemed like the refs were auditioning for NFL. As someone who has run the chains in games, the ball placement throughout the course of the game was very questionable considering their eagerness to call penalties on every other play.

The fate of the game was decided opening drive.

I truly believe if we punched it in on 4th and goal, the football gods would have rewarded us with a similar result to Arkansas last week, not the 60 minutes of “stop playing with your food and eat it” we ended up with.

Weird game but I'm overall pretty happy with what we saw yesterday, here are my thoughts:

- RB and OL looked great, especially the RBs in pass blocking to my eye. Run blocking was a little weird, but I think BS was trying to sell out to stop Love and Price and wanted Carr to threaten with his arm. Love might still be trying to go the distance too much, but he's still just so hard to tackle. Price is just as amazing and what a run for him for his TD. I think he broke 4 tackles? We are beyond spoiled at RB.

- Carr and the WRs had an off-connection day, especially Carr. Get one or two of those long throws back and it's a 35/42 kind of scoring day
and there's not much consternation from everybody, or if Love bounces out on that 4th and goal instead of getting stuffed in the middle. He's a young guy, this is only his 5th game, he's still playing at an incredibly advanced level for his experience. I'm not worried about it. His TD pass to Pauling was my favorite throw all game. He sees the single high safety and immediately checks into the right play and has perfect ball placement to the back shoulder. Carr is elite and even in a "bad" day, continues to impress me.

- Can we please stop with the wildcat play that uses Carr as a blocker? He's never a threat so it just becomes 10 on 11. It's a stupid fucking play and doesn't work. Go back to what we did with Mitchapaloosa or something similar with a fullback, since we're so thin on TE anyways.

- Defense! HELL YEAH. 4 Ints (should have been at least 5?), 4 sacks. Guys were coming with absolute violence, playing downhill and hitting really hard. I also loved the sticky coverage from the secondary. It feels like they just needed to continue to build on confidence and it's starting to show. Play like that the rest of the season and we'll be in great position. Leonard Moore is HIM.

- The Refs were absolutely atrocious and determined to make it all about them on every play. Sure, some of the calls were legit or at least by the letter, but both teams got hosed by some really ridiculous zebra behavior. ND should be banning that crew from the stadium, they're the same ones who reffed Virginia last year and called back that amazing fake from Faison.

- Boise State might not be ranked, but they're not a complete scrub of a team. Solid program that has never been afraid to take on bigger brands and beat them, this was a game that had me nervous at the beginning of the season as one of our let down spots. If beating the spread and winning by 3 touchdowns is the result after a high emotion game of absolutely annihilating an SEC opponent, I'm happy with it. There's a lot to learn from but also a lot to be really happy with.

Any reports on the ground of interactions with BSU fans? Don’t think I personally know any.
I live in the West and have interacted with a few and have seen them around the internet. I would be shocked if anyone had a negative interaction with a Boise fan. Very nice and respectful fanbase. Imagine the average PSU or Michigan fan and then think of the opposite and that is basically a Boise fan.

It was good to see the offense lag a bit at times and Carr to not look sharp to see how the defense would respond. Defense stepped up. I think there is a lot of fool's gold with Boise's offensive numbers coming into the game, but still, the defense of week 2 would have allowed Boise to score around 20. They shut them down and looked physical, aggressive, and played with an edge.

Just watched the game and wow that has to be the worst officiating I've ever seen. Not just a ton of really questionable flags both ways but I feel they gave them several 1st downs that they were short on. Then failed to review the spot of the ball.
I'm going to my 1st ever ND game against NC St. If the refs are terrible like tonight I'm getting arrested.
No Ragrets!
Has it been reported anywhere which conference they were from?
If they were ACC refs we can raise hell with the league and tell them never send them to ND again.
If they were Mountain West refs we’re idiots for allowing them for a one off “buy” game.

I need to check boxscore but I believe Carr avoiding getting sacked. The closest I recall was when they had him but he was outside the box and able to throw it away. No intentional grounding either! He didn’t light up stat sheet w/ yds but he also never panicked when his accuracy was a bit off.

The play on the first drive where it was 3rd and 10, he got flushed, starts running but won't get the first and then sees Pauling open on the sideline and flicks it to him for a 25 yard gain...

He actually had one play where he almost did that weird side shoulder throw thing for an intentional grounding, and he stopped himself and hucked it actually out of bounds. Good to see he's learning from dumb mistakes.

I encountered multiple Boose fans throughout the day yesterday. Interactions were all very positive. Seemed like a respectful group.
There have been a TON here in Indy for the Colts-Raiders (Jeanty) game. I’ve talked to at least a couple dozen. For every one it was a bucket list and exceeded their expectations. A very classy group of fans.

Were they filming an Intro to Refereeing course video? It was...bizarre

Offensive Holding? Check
Defensive Holding? Check
Defensive Pass Interference? Check
Offensive Pass Interference? Check
Illegal procedure? Check
False start? Check
Illegal substitution? Check
Offsides? Check
Roughing the passer? Check
Personal foul? Check
Block in the back? Check
And with those they didn’t called at least two PIs against Boise and two out of bounds roughings on Boise. Many ticky tack calls that impacted plays usually in favor of Boise.

Also none of his passes were in jeopardy of being intercepted. His couple of INTs and almost Int last week were ugly ones both factoring into our close losses. The missed TD pass on 4th down was as bad as an int since it was a turnover.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. Yesterday was the sloppiest officiating game that I've attended at Notre Dame.
2. I am glad that the Minich play happened- the defense played more pissed off and the crowd got more rowdy.
3. I felt like the offense left some points off the board.
4. 4 sacks along with 4 interceptions is the type of defense we've been used to the past couple of years.
5. The Jadarian Price touchdown was in my end zone, he wasn't going to be denied, I felt like the whole Boise St. defense couldn't tackle him; great run.
6. Fields-Faison-Pauling as WR's: Fields has great athleticism, Faison is becoming Carr's go-to, and Pauling is silent but deadly.
7. Hell of a catch by Fields.
8. Boise St. fans have been opposing fans of the year.
9. #9 on defense should only go to Ft. Wayne boy's.
10. Keep going 1-0 every week.

Go Irish!

Any way they can get Kelly green more involved is good with me. Just sticks out in the stands so much more and is more unique than our historic blue. Kelly green, gold, and white would be my primarily uniforms / color combos.

Personally think the white on white with gold helmets is our best look.

I agree that white jersey+white pants+gold helmet is the best “away” combo. I can’t get on board with blue + gold erasure. Nothing wrong with alternates, but It’s too good & too iconic to abandon as the base. Plus it’s in the Alma mater. I do prefer green in the crowd as much as possible.
