NFL=No Fun League

How can Kelly or anyone not know this. You got zero job security, heck my Bears fired a guy that went 10-6. Roger Goodell will fine you for anything and everything he doesn't like.

You can't scream at fully grown men like this either.

Roger Goodell: Yelling 20 decibals above an acceptable level $25,000.00 fine.

I do have a serious question, and in no way is it a negative comment against BK. But if he were to leave, where would this rank among the all time flip flops as a coach. He made several comments ensuring he let it be known he was nit going anywhere. And definitive statements at that. I understand comments to stop questions, but his to me were definitive.

1) BK not going anywhere
2) Still nowhere near a Saban/Alabama situation
3) The situation is not over, so the judgement on definitive is not complete. If he did it for experience, to hear what they have to say/offer, leverage, etc versus man, I want get out of the ND situation I am stuck in, then he is still sticking by his "definitive" statements.
4) More roast cat with string bean please

I don't believe he's going anywhere either.

I asked it as 'if' he were to leave and based upon the things he's said leading up to this, as to avoid judgement on a definitive, but to ask for judgement on a hypothetical.

Here's how I read the situation.

1. Even though he extended his contract last year, Swarbrick didn't pay Kelly more.

2. Kelly, who is the 23rd highest paid coach in the nation, takes ND to the BCS title game.

3. Swarbrick does not satisfy Kelly with a reward soon enough.

4. Kelly starts talking to the NFL.

5. Swarbrick ponies up the money and what other conditions needed to satisfy Kelly. This is done quickly, to make sure the recruiting class doesn't fall apart.

6. NDNation.com goes back to hating Kelly as "not one of us".

He was going to get a raise without interviewing.

not what he probably feels he is worth...he should be in the top 5 highest paid coaches...not because we went to a NC but because of the rigors of being ND'S coach, $$$ that is coming in...example "Win or lose on Monday, Notre Dame will collect $6.2 million this season by playing in a BCS bowl game, which dwarves the payout to any given conference member. The Pac-12 teams, which lead the rest, will collect $2.48 million each this season by virtue of having two conferences members in BCS games and thus dividing $29.8 million 12 ways."

now the new NBC deal too " Notre Dame's renaissance comes just in time as negotiations for a new TV contract heat up. NBC pays Notre Dame a reported $15 million annually in an eight-year deal that expires after 2015. And this year's TV ratings for the Irish, capped by a blockbuster 10.3 in the regular-season finale at USC and maybe double that for the BCS title game, will only reinforce their brand power and value.

Since most of the major conferences have recently signed new TV deals worth at least 20 million annually to each school, expect NBC to match that to keep Notre Dame home games on the Peacock Network. At the very least, Notre Dame's new deal should exceed the $17 million per school the ACC is getting, but no one should be surprised if the new TV contract pays the Irish $25 to $30 million a year.

he knows the school is cashing in and he feels he should be too as he is the one assembling this w/ his coaches.

^THIS^

BK realized there were too many people over there that were beginning to feel comfortable with him and needed to stir the pot a bit!

Jack Swarbrick should pull a Bod Diaco and show up 4:30 AM on the day of Kelly's interview and keep the interview from ever taking place.

He was going to get a raise without interviewing.

and this situation makes the raise that much bigger.

my feeling: kelly knows all these other coaches salaries, jack says/has been saying we'll take care of it/get htis done, jack on record "theres no rush-well do at approriate time etc"...problem here is the delay hurts kelly and helps jack so kelly and his agent say f&ck that...we want this done now, not when your ready and all these nfl jobs/or the eagles dont offer the job are filled and we have no leverage.

Jack and ND cannot let the sins of K White and the CW extension cloud their judgement here. they need to lock up kelly and do it quickly. he has PROVEN that his plan works.

we finally have the HFC at ND we have needed for DECADES...if they screw this up, and get cute with bullshit counter offers, and nickle and dime kelly an/or his staff it will be the worst mistake they could make. even if you have to OVERPAY-you have to get this done. the long term risk/reward is in kellys favor.

Agent Trace Armstrong reps Brian Kelly... and Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, according to his wiki page. Hmm.

First of all, Brian Kelly hasn't left yet so let's wait to see what happens before we panic.

The strength and quality of the program long term depends more upon Swarbrick and the personnel that are permanent fixtures at Notre Dame. Coaches leave and players graduate. We have severely underestimated the performance of Swarbrick and the role he has played. Swarbrick had the good sense to hire and support Brian Kelly. If Kelly does decide to jump to the NFL Swarbrick will find a quality replacement to lead the program.

I hope Brian Kelly decides to stay. He's a quality coach capable of assembling a fine staff of assistant coaches. He and his staff have recruited beyond anyone's expectations this year. However, if Coach Kelly decides to try his hand at coaching in the NFL, we have at least one excellent head coach on the current staff (Chuck Martin). Swarbrick will do what needs to be done. If Coach Kelly decides to leave it won't be because Notre Dame made no effort to keep him here.

Little slow on the uptake here Ironman. What do you think this might be implying?

He is their agent as per his Wikippedia page:

Trace Armstrong - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Armstrong currently serves as the agent for former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, among others. He is also the agent for several broadcasters such as Peter Gammons, Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter. Armstrong currently lives in his former college hometown, Gainesville, Florida, with his wife Tami and three sons. His eldest son, Jared Armstrong, is currently a quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles football team.

To spell it out a little more definitively, the two reporters who "broke" this story are represented by the same agent who reps BK. That's very unlikely to be a coincidence. Seems like Armstrong is behind this leak, which strongly implies that it's intended to get Kelly a raise/ extension.

Bingo, bango.

I'm staying out of this hectic thread until further notice.

It's a textbook leverage ploy. No reason for anyone to worry, imo.
