Looked for a general thread to discuss some shows not on Netflix and came up with nothing.

Just binished up Billions on Showtime - seasons 1 & 2. I'd have to put it at #3 behind just The Sopranos and House of Cards. Fantastic characters. Anyone else watching/watched it? Thoughts?

What's the early returns in regards to American Gods on Starz? Was going to start that and follow along. Anything with Al Swearengen in it has to be a keeper, right?

I also did Season 3 of Bosch on Amazon. I've enjoyed the 3 seasons, is it art like the greats? No... but it beats Matlock reruns. The one thing that is really interesting is the shooting locations in LA. A lot of familiar places and shot in 4k Ultra HD, it's like you are standing there as it's filmed.

TURN on AMC is one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I'm admittedly an early American history buff and there are certainly some historical inaccuracies, but it definitely does a nice job of portraying how allegiances during the Rev War weren't necessarily black and white as we are sometimes taught.

I've been wondering the same thing. Anyone watching American Gods? I read the book a couple years ago and I thought it was pretty mediocre, but it's an interesting premise, and there are some cool, dramatic moments with cinematic potential, so I could see it turning into a good show.

I just finished season 1 of Silicon Valley. Loved it. Why did it take me so long to catch on to this.

That's on the list. Was thinking about that or Homeland this month while I wait on HOC

Silicon Valley is a funny parody show. First 2 seasons were great. Season 3 had some laughs but now they are kind of recycling the same story lines so it's probably going to take a nose dive.

Homeland was enjoyable for the first 3, maybe 4 seasons.

I really like Halt & Catch fire but not many people seem to enjoy it so n=1.

Why are you not including Netflix shows? 13 Reasons Why starts out feeling teeny-bop then gets dark, then drops you to a bottom of a pit. My wife and I binged that show and it left us with a hangover for a few days. As a parent, it was difficult to stomach.

Generation Kill was great.

The Wire

The Office

Game of Thrones

The Expanse (I've only watched the first episode but it's received good reviews)

There was a thread for Netflix shows. Love HOC. Narcos and Stranger Things both Top 10 all timers. Enjoyed OITNB until I realized it was never gonna be OZ w/ Vuhjayjay's.

The Wire is also on my list... just haven't gotten to it yet.

Let me be a detractor of Justified, thought it was cartoonish in execution.

Peaky Blinders was pretty good the first season but I never went back after. Should probably see how it's progressed at some point.

I tried Justified but felt like i was cheating on Deadwood. Hoping I don't get that same feeling with American Gods.

Just binge watched Stranger Things this weekend. It was fantastic. I would agree, one of my all time faves.

TURN 4th Season premiere's June 17th on AMC. It's a two hour show and the first of 10 episodes.

... it definitely does a nice job of portraying how allegiances during the Rev War weren't necessarily black and white as we are sometimes taught.

Sometimes taught?

I was taught there were only a handful of Loyalists at most in each colony and there was overwhelming support among the populace. The movie musical 1776 was my first exposure to how truly splintered the forefathers were. The movie has inaccuracies but the letters from Washington, the courier's "Mama look sharp", and the delegates unfinished business was unlike any school history text I read. As a youth I visited Valley Forge, walked the Freedom Trail, hiked along Washington's March from Fort Lee to New Bridge, and many times visited Von Stueben house in the town where I grew up. None of those things sparked my interest in the Revolution like 1776 did. It drove me to dig deeper.

In school I learned about Nathan Hale and his famous quote. In the first season of TURN, I was stunned when Lt/Capt Talmadge praised Hale for his memorable quote and Washington's first chief spy Nathaniel Sackett replied, "He didn't say that, we did." A propaganda move to make Hale's following orders quote more inspirational.

TURN is a low budget show easily recognized by the constant tight shots of Setauket, farm buildings, NYC, LI Sound, etc. The only long shots are of the woods.

Good show. I look forward to see if Abe and General Washington can pull it off.

The Leftovers, The Pacific, I'll try to come up with more.

You can sit on the couch on Saturday and polish off an entire season of Housewives or Kardashians?

Really?
