What’s your favorite Cody Campbell quote?

“One important fact has been broadly misunderstood: It was NOT Texas Tech that filed the at-issue lawsuit against the NCAA, seeking his reinstatement.”

“The bottom line is that Texas Tech did absolutely nothing but act with complete integrity through this entire process. We broke no rules, no laws, and crossed no ethical lines.”

“that does not change the fact that I am deeply concerned about the state of college sports and want to see it reformed. Clearly, the situation is not acceptable nor sustainable at present, but "it is what it is", and we have had to live and to compete in it.”

“He will be stripped of the opportunity to continue to develop as a better and stronger man, stripped of his last opportunity to compete at the highest level of college sports, and I pray that he can stay on his path to recovery.”
A bunch of middle aged men leaning into therapy speak to try to take the moral high ground has been the funniest part of all this.

So, Twitter is a sewer, but it's pretty funny when the politically-connected billionaire booster/chair of the BoR puts out a statement there and all the Applebee Americans are cussing him out and calling him names in the replies.

Seems like the Big 12 baited Texas Tech:

In fact, it was Texas attorney general Ken Paxton's letter last week that, oddly enough, paved the way for the school's filing Monday…Paxton's letter threatened legal action against the Big 12 if it were to sanction Texas Tech.

The league's filing on Monday asked a federal judge to bar Paxton's office from preventing the conference from exercising its right under the bylaws to sanction Tech….a lawsuit that many within the legal community expected the Big 12 to win.

“In 40 years as a lawyer, I've never seen such a devastating legal filing come out of left field," said Tom Mars, a noted attorney in recent college sports cases, most of them against the NCAA, conferences and schools. "It was as creative as anything I've ever seen."

The Big 12's legal threat put Sorsby in an interesting dilemma: Continue down this path, possibly subjecting Texas Tech to a Big 12 sanction protected through a federal injunction, or apply for the NFL Supplemental Draft (the application deadline is next Monday).

I really can't see him being taken in the supplemental draft...he will get signed eventually to a practice squad...but to be drafted means that the team would forfeit a pick and then likely have a player who will be suspended as soon as he signs.

This entire thing...hell the entirety of college football has become a complete shit show. At least before there was an illusion of structure and rules...Sorsby won't be the last to do this.

Yeah, that's what I meant about Paxton bungling this. His legal threat basically gave the Big 12 fodder for a declaratory judgment.

“Brendan and Texas Tech stand on very solid and legitimate legal ground, but he faces a June 22nd deadline to be eligible to enter the NFL's supplemental draft, and there is no practical way to resolve all the various pending legal disputes and ensure his eligibility prior to this date.”

Basically the new Big 12 suit spooked them.

I am curious what Paxton's actual involvement was. Texas AG Office has 700+ attorneys. Dozens of divisions. He's campaigning for Senate. Hes a Baylor undergrad and UVA law grad. Nothing about him screams Red Raider Enthusiast.

The buck obviously stops with him as the AG, but I am curious what his personal involvement was.

He's a Red Raider enthusiast to the extent he's owned by Cody Campbell.

Cody Campbell is a major donor to Paxton's Senate campaign.

Also, read the letter again. There's no way that goes out the door without Paxton's personal involvement and sign off. No chance in hell.

Fuck Texas Tech. Fuck Ken "Leatherface" Paxton. Fuck Brandon Sorsby... And fuck the overly litigous nature of our culture that tries to sue for anything and everything to avoid accountability. And especially fuck the bottom feeder lawyers with zero morality, that serve as the tool to service those griveances.

So now Sorsby’s agent shares this information

My understanding is that Cincinnati knew he tried to access a betting site, confronted him, and he said he was betting on UFC and the like (apparently this is OK?).

Whether he's an addict or Cincinnati knew that he's a degenerate doesn't seem very pertinent to me. Obviously if the kid has a problem and the school knows they should probably try and address that. But it feels like Tech is just trying to shift the burden onto another school?

Am I missing something? I haven't read deep into this whole saga.

“Your Petition—filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions—does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans.”

Why would the NFLPA go to battle for a non member?
There is nothing in the CBA that requires the league to hold a supplemental draft just because someone applies for it. Sorsby dismissed his complaint with prejudice because TT said they wouldn't let him play, so that avenue is closed. Not sure what he thinks is going to happen at this point.
