I’ve never really understood how some random judge can make a decision for this.

It’s the NCAA’s fault for how their process is written. They’ve backed themselves into a corner with the authority they grant to courts per their process for appeals and whatnot.

Gonna be wild to see how other schools and AD’s treat TTU, as these guys are fighting to win in a way that kind of transcends everything that has come before. There is ONE rule that 99.9% of the sports world agrees on, and Sorsby broke that rule. But TTU is gonna play him anyway because they paid him a bunch of money to come play.

The NCAA is such a joke. Sorsby gambles on multiple games, including on his own team (Indiana at the time) and he is eligible. Miami (Darian Mensah), LSU (Demond Williams), and Ole Miss (Luke Ferrelli) tampered with players who were NOT in the portal and were under contract at other schools and they received no punishment.

Yeah i mean at this point the NCAA obviously has no teeth but the CFP taking a stand would actually work. Not entirely convinced that they are incentived to do so, but also taking a stand against TT is a whole lot different than say Michigan, as MPClinton pointed out.

As far as Campbell goes, I can't really say anything bad about him without being a hypocrite. If I had basically unlimited money I'd be doing the same for ND, and likely much worse lmao

It makes no sense that these judges have standing to do things like this that are not "local" issues, it is a major flaw. And it applies outside of sports, too. Judges think they are god now NOT impartial interpreters of the law.

More government is not the answer. They will mess it up worse... Each conference needs to become siloed and make their own rules and enfore them.. The NCCA is a joke. I do not want the government involved. Read the bill, it will turn the game into a complete mess.

Judges have too much power and they are being used as political weapons across the country. This is absolutely a massive moment in college sports. Essentially, there are no rules anymore because there is no one who can enforce them. This is an open and shut case of breaking the rules, but there will be no punishment.

Yes, it screws us unless the Big allows us to join as a partial. I just see no way forward and the government wants to take over everything. It is a mess.

Seeing reports on twitter from yahoo sports that the AD's are discussing blackballing Texas Tech if Sorsby is allowed to play.

Gene Taylor at Kansas State has described the ruling as "f***ing bulls***." He was the AD at NDSU during my time there. Hes very buttoned up. Nice guy. If hes that mad, cant imagine the others handling it any better.

It’s going to take ADs from other schools to back out of playing TT and put some pressure on on them to drop Sorsby, I’m not trying to be hyperbolic here but If this doesn’t get fixed quickly this is the death nail of the sport. You can’t have active players admitting to betting on a game they were apart of and not expect the integrity of the sport to not be in shambles. Hell I imagine the sports betting companies are pissed with this outcome.

Also if the rumored blue blood game was with ND that TT was trying to schedule was still in the works I guarantee you it’s dead now. No chance ND gets mixed up in this bullshit

WHat can they do? Their TV contacts state they have to play. The ruling says that the NCAA or conference cannot punish the team. The ruling was dang broad.

For the first time since the playoff snub I had the urge today to look at college football content that wasn’t directly related to the Irish. Decided to go to ESPN to look at the week 1 slate. What was I greeted to? This ridiculous news that players can literally do anything they want without any repercussions and then a slate of 4 days of football with like 3 good games. I’ll go back to following ND and nothing else. It’s a shame what they have done to this sport

How can a Lubbock judge determine what is done in other cities? So can a local judge of opposing schools ban Sorsby from playing in their city?

The system officially died today. It had been on life support for a long, long time. But, this ruling pulls the plug.

Commit crimes as a stud athlete? Local PD already had your back (in most cases).

Break NCAA rules? Well, the NCAA wasn't really enforcing those anymore.

I don't know if this makes the B1G and SEC more or less likely to break away, because part of the logic of breaking away would have been to form their own rules.

But, based on today's ruling I'd say that there are officially no rules when it comes to college athletes.

I suppose that making them employees might allow rules to be enforced, but why the hell would the players agree to that at this point? Or, even the major schools. If you have rich boosters and judges in your pocket the lack of rules probably won't bother you.

I’m not even remotely knowledgeable in legal precedent but could this judge have opened up a can of worms on himself? Like couldn’t all the people he has put in jail or ordered to pay fines say that he himself with the judgement has caused irreparable harm to them? Am I on to anything at all or am I talking out of my ass and hoping this judge just gets fucked

I don’t know, but it seems his ruling was to broad and not more specific which could open this up? What’s our resident attorneys say?

NCAA should vacate any wins immediately after every game.
