Sooooo, no discussion on the finale???

Just caught up, was surprised no one had checked in.

What's Chuck's fate? Regardless of the outcome, I think the act itself, preceded by his comments to Jimmy, are what finally force Jimmy to embrace the Saul.

I think the tipping point may have actually been his guilt about the thing with Irene. Jimmy does some messed up shit, and gets people caught in the collateral damage. It's weird, though, because a lot of these things are not done with malice... they're done because he tried to do the lawyer thing the "right way," and his brother couldn't stand it. So Jimmy is constantly a step behind, and does what he needs to do in order to play catch-up.

At this point, he knows better... but he keeps messing up anyway. It's a grim poetic justice that the only way to HELP Irene, and to reverse the damage he did to that poor old woman, was to act like Slipping Jimmy, in the open. He has to be Slipping Jimmy to get ahead; now he has to act like Slipping Jimmy just to do the RIGHT thing, too.

That's how he'll see it, and combine that with Chuck's demise and parting words, and he'll have no choice but to think, "I keep messing up. And even when I try to do right, I have to do it by acting like a scumbag. My own brother didn't care for me, despite everything I did for him. But maybe I should take his advice, and stop trying to feel guilty when people are caught in the crossfire. This is who I am."

Also, there's a much simpler explanation for his change to "Saul Goodman" in the future: When his show-cause is up, he's probably going to learn that he still can't get work as "Jimmy McGill," because people will spread the word about how he was disbarred for a year, and will also relate him to his whacked-out brother. The family name is ruined in law circles. He'll have to change his name to market himself and get work because of everything that's happened. And he'll remember Chuck encouraging him to embrace his inner-sleaze when he makes the decision on the name change.

I'm guessing the next season will show Nacho having to leave town, as Fring will be on to him; Mike will get more play in service of Fring; Kim will probably have some big-moment falling out with Jimmy when he switches to Saul and does something unforgivable in her eyes.

She probably gets caught in his collateral damage unbeknownst to him, and leaves town, finishing his decent to rock-bottom.

Still watching and still loving it. You covered everything pretty well and I think we're mostly thinking along the same lines.

Chuck's fate? He's a goner. And someone is gonna whack Nacho. Either someone in Hector's gang figures it out and kills him or Gus will figure it all out and have Mike or someone else take care of him. If it's Mike he'll likely just scare Nacho and run him off or put him into hiding.

Gonna be interesting going forward. No idea on the Kim thing. And I think you're explanation of Jimmy's decent into Saul sounds reasonable and likely. The old folks might have a say in it also.

Was the lady laundering Mike's money in the last episode or two in Breaking Bad at all? She looked familiar.

There's a line from Breaking Bad, when Jesse and Walt kidnap Saul to extort him or his help, where Saul sees he's being held at gunpoint by masked men, and says, "It wasn't me, it was Ignacio!"

So Saul is gonna get involved directly with Nacho... I'm assuming that the connection will be Mike, who is helping Nacho after some bad guys get on his trail for the Salamanca thing.

The context clues from BB, and the situation as we know it in BCS, seem to show that Nacho makes it out alive somehow, and is still on the run/being hunted by the time BB rolls around.

And yes, that's Lydia, from the last couple season of BB. She's the one that gets all skittish and starts ruining things.

Jimmy McGill also ruined his market niche with the elderly after the stunt with Irene

BCS is back tonight with a two-hour premiere. I had no idea. Not sure if it was poor marketing, or because I rarely watch AMC anymore. I was under the impression that it wouldn’t be back until the fall for some reason.

I am really excited to see how things shake out after the cliffhangers from last season, but the delay and then lack of hype for this season have me worried.

Wow, what?! It's back on already? I thought I had seen it was going to be late August.

I've seen tons of commercials on AMC for BCS and Lodge 49. Also a marathon I think last week. I watch Preacher on Sunday nights and it seemed like every commercial break had a BCS or Lodge 49 commercial for a while now. Haven't watched either one yet, but have both on the DVR. Going to have a beer and chill to both this evening. I'm pretty sure it's only an hour. Maybe an hour and 15 IIRC

Oh man, I had NO idea. That shit better show up on my DVR when I get home!

Can't wait to watch - love the show. Gotta admit though (probably sacrilege to say on a thread of Better Caul Saul fans), my patience is about done. I'm ready for the show to kick into high gear and stay in high gear for more than a minute.

I haven't watched the premiere yet, but I can't imagine they can do much more of the slow buildup stuff...

With the way last season ended, and Gus getting involved, and Gus and Mike needing to hook up, and Jimmy needing to go full-Saul at some point, shit should start popping off.

I was convinced that I had watched all of Season 3. Turns out, I missed the last few episodes. Oops. Just did a recap to get caught up. Looking forward to Season 4.

**SPOILER**

The flashforward scenes have become a bit disappointing in retrospect. We get only a brief snippet of this stuff every season so I was really hoping we would get something actually substantive out of the one from last night. You could say the cab scene shows that someone from his past might know where he but it's fairly predictable and we have to wait another season to get something more (and we are already on season 4).

I guess I was thinking the cab driver could have been Jesse and I would have probably jumped out of my chair so it was a bit of a letdown.

Just a friendly reminder. Today,... Season 4 exists. It's a Netflix thing too...
I have watched the complete BB series again and then went into the BCS series as a run up to today.

Every episode is so good. The cast is perfect. This season is going to be amazing. Lalo, Kim, and Mike are just as compelling as Jimmy/Saul which is what makes this show so amazing.

I can't decide what is better BCS or Succession. Both are incredible.

If Succession is anywhere near as good as BCS I am going to have to watch it.

It really is IMO. The only thing I'd give to BCS is that you go in knowing most of the main players so people picking it up might find it more accessible right off the bat. But man once you get into Succession it's at that level.

Was anyone else a little disappointed in the finale?

It was great television as always but we got no flashforward, no one died, no plot twist, etc. To me it made more sense as a penultimate episode rather than a season finale.

I thought it was solid.. Leaves a lot of plot twists for next year. Kim turning dirty perhaps, Lalo living and Nacho nowhere to be found. Jimmy wondering starting to questions morals. It sets it up for all of these questions to be answered in the final season next year, going into Breaking Bad after. I thought this season was great. Lalo by far was one of the best characters added to the franchise.

Yeah I thought it was great too. Didn't see Slippin Kimmy coming. Love the direction they're taking that after everyone had assumed it was going to be Saul doing something too far over the line. I'm gonna predict that Lalo kills Nacho's father and then Nacho kills Lalo before disappearing. It's conceivable that Jimmy would never hear about Lalo surviving this hit and then dying later. Lalo dying is also the only way it makes sense that we didn't hear more about him during the BB years. No way Tuco would be in charge if Lalo was still around.

I think Lalo is the best antagonist in the whole series. Sorry Gus. Lalo is just the perfect mixture of a cold blooded psycho killer while also being so charming. Tony Dalton is killing it. I hope he blows up after BCS.

Also how good is Rhea Seehorn?? This whole cast is incredible.

Couldn't agree more, he plays the character perfectly. I hope he catches a break and gets some more roles as well. Rhea as well, shes been terrific.

Loved it. I thought it was well done. Have we been totally not seeing Slippin Kimmy the whole time? Lalo is great. Mike is Mike. Super show.

We have, but I thought up until this season that it was mostly just her going along with Jimmy and that at some point Jimmy would take it too far and cross a line that Kim wouldn't follow. Her wanting to go after Howard has even shocked Jimmy.

There's a pretty popular Reddit theory I'll have to find that Kim is the silent partner Saul alludes to in BB. I don't see her being killed off because Saul in BB doesn't really seem to have that kind of emotional baggage.

If true, the question is what happens to her after BB. One of the reasons I really wanted a flashforward.

The insinuation that he was banging his secretary must just be lip service if that theory is true. Saul hits on Franchesca pretty heavily in BB.

Saul and Kim don't have to be in a romantic relationship in BB for her to be the silent partner. Perhaps something happens in BCS that ends their personal relationship. We know there is potentially $2,000,000 coming to them and Kim would be entitled to half of that if they got divorced.
