Yeah it's a no from me.

People always say this but I just don't get it. I hated Walter White so much that I was actually shocked when I got through the series and learned that most people loved him by the end and were sad to see him die. I wanted the series to end with Hank shooting Walt in the face in front of Walter Junior.

People always praise the show saying "you can't help but root for Walter." Disagree. I didn't even care that he was a meth brewing murderer. I just hated his whiny face.

I watched BB when it originally aired on AMC. I really liked Walt. Then a few years later I binged it again on Netflix and absolutely hated Walt. I think the week break in between episodes and then the break in between seasons helped you forget all the bad stuff Walt did.

I get Hank>> Walt... Hank's death shook me far more, but Walt was an amazing character. I think a lot of people rooted for him because compared to the Under World figures he matched wits with, we understood his motives, whereas the others just came off as evil, thus you rooted for Walt.

To really understand Breaking Bad, we need buster to explain it to us. Any other opinions of Walter, Hank, or whomever from that show are devoid of thought and just plain wrong.

Personally, I like viewing Walter as both a bad and good guy. I don't think one has to be firmly in either camp.

For the record, I am firmly in the camp that Breaking Bad was an awesome show though- easily Top 5 all time for me.

Loved Walt's character. It was easy for me to cheer for him as he went up against so many characters that were worse. I hate shows were a lead character is super good. Walt had a lot of depth, which made the show what it is.

I wish Better Call Saul was more like BB. BCS is exhausting at times telling the slow story of the evolution of Saul. Great acting, and great writing overall, but could have a lot more action, and a lot more emphasis on the bad guys. I'm not sure I need 20 minutes of the episode, multiple times, to talk about his fathers convenient store and the coins he shared.

Get on with it already and give me some BB-like anxiousness.

Netflix canceled Luke Cage this week. While I thought it got too "lib" in the 2nd season and got a little all-over-the-place, I thought they'd regroup and do a 3rd season.

I prefer BCS.
BB was unrealistic in terms of too many lucky breaks for Walt that kept the story running. I thought it was shonky that they didn't catch him in the first season after the equipment was found to be from his school lab.

Not too many "realistic" shows out there. That specific situation didn't bother me much. I know plenty of kids in my Catholic HS that "borrowed" lab equipment for one reason or another...

Anyway, that was more realistic to me than a brother having an anti-electric condition, or a brother sabotaging his hard working brother's career. I guess we all like what we like.

Don't get me wrong, I love both shows. I just came in to defend BCS from your brutal attack. I prefer Jimmy as a character to Walt.

I really like BCS. I just expected it to be more like BB, and less slow to evolve.

My attack is not near as bad as Gus's brutality :)

Was going to say the same thing and while bus is not exactly uplifting it is not as seedy and depressing or violent as B.B.

Still partial to schitts creek.

man i loved that show all the way up until the end......very disappointed it went out like that in the end......great build up, sucky ending imo

Dang, I actually liked the ending. It was a quiet one, but this show wasn't the typical horror I guess.

Re: Breaking Bad - really like Walt until the 5th season and still found some redeeming qualities in him. But he was mostly bad.

Hank was just like inspector Halvert from Les Miserables. Unflinching in his desire for justice and it was his undoing. He could've talked to Walt, could've approached everything in a more nuanced manner but it was always Cowboy Hank chasing down the bad guys. Then he went south of the border and saw what real bad guys do. That shook him so much he felt emasculated. That forced him to continue digging and trying to find redemption in the case he left behind.

Once he found out it was Walt, he came unhinged and had to nail him to the cross.

I actually liked Hank less than Walt. Something about his lowbrow view of the world annoyed me. I appreciate our law enforcement so this isn't, in turn, a criticism of them. Probably just a character flaw in my own person.

hank was very arrogant douche which is why it seemed ok for walt to be the bad guy that you kind of rooted for(in a weird twisted way..NOT IN REAL LIFE)

Though the Hill House show was just ok. Never really even creeped me out which was disappointing. Had heard going in that it was like a 10 episode version of Hereditary, so maybe I was just expecting far too much. It can't even sniff Hereditary's jock.

Also some of the performances were rough to say the least. The middle sister, while hot, was not convincing. Especially her emotional scene in the final episode. Yikes.

Has anyone read the book? Did it end like that?

I read it in the early 80s after watching the first film version (60s) of it. The book, as well as the first movie adaption were pretty vague about what is actually going on in the house, and the ending leaves you questioning what really happened. The second film (Liam Neilson, Lili Taylor) was a huge departure for the book. The Netflix show is more in your face about what is going on (than the book), takes some liberties with the ending, but is much closer than the second film. Would recommend both the book and the first movie.

Made the mistake of starting Haunting of Hill House last night, Halloween, in the dark, by myself.

Will proceed to watch in the day time.

Walter White was an amazing character, and an amazing, obnoxious douche bag.

Once he started cooking for Gus and went big time, they did an excellent job of transforming him into the jealous, big-headed, arrogant character that ultimately wrecked everything for everyone around him.

The first time watching the show, I thought he was a divided character, and I maintained some sympathy for him because of why he started cooking in the first place.

But when re-watching via Netflix binge, it's much easier to see what a shithead he actually was, mostly centering around his relationship with Jesse.

Jesse becomes a much more sympathetic character when you are watching things in quick succession... you realize he was basically just a kid that did some *bad* shit that needed help. Walter treated Jesse like he was a monster that was lucky to be connected to Heisenberg, when the reality is that Walter turned into an actual monster, and he did it of his own free will, whereas Jesse was constantly being affected by outside influences.

What Walter did to Jesse during the final season, out of nothing but arrogance and spite, was unforgivable. Everyone talks about Walt's redeeming act at the very end, but it was only necessary because of how vile he had been before that. He was directly responsible for all of the heartache that Jesse had experienced and would experience.

Jesse finally gets his shit together... Walter pulls him back in and wrecks it. Jesse gets out from under Walter's shadow and lets Walter have his throne... Walter pulls him back for no reason, and wrecks it even worse.

I wish Walter White had died from his cancer at the end of season one.

Walt was very likable in the first few seasons. I think it would be hard to argue otherwise.

He became unlikable for many people around the same time that Skyler took on a more prominent role. To me, Skyler is up there with Daenerys as the worst character on a great show (and at least Emilia Clarke is a smoke). I hated everything about her pretty much. So when he started being a douchebag towards her, that basically made me like him more.

I think I'm a bad person...

No, Skyler sucked too.

She should've had at least some sympathy or understanding for what Walt was doing. Instead, she played the victim while Walt was still a somewhat decent guy... but then when things went to hell, she turned into an ultra-hypocrite, breaking laws herself and risking things for her kids in her own ways.

Marie was even worse, though. I don't know if I've ever hated a character in a show more than Marie.

At least Danny is hot... I could look past her acting/character...
Actually, while I didn't care for Skyler as a character, she did not grind on me like she did others. Hank's wife Betsy/Marie was probably my least favorite character.

To me, it's about Walt's journey. Cancer stricken family man and likable, to soulless villain, trying to find redemption at the 12th hour.

Haunting of Hill House is really good. I'm through four episodes. I made the mistake of starting this with my girlfriend who is borderline narcoleptic so we watch at most 1 episode a night.
