what do we think??

do we clinch a BCS birth with a win this weekend??
Probably. It's crazy, at the beginning of the year I'd be excited at the prospect of clinching a BCS berth (possibly) after 10 games but now I'd be disappointed if that's all we end up with. However we just need to keep winning and just hope everything else shakes out in our favor.

You do realize that LSU -- Ell Ess freaking You -- put 450 yards of offense on Bama, right?

If they had to play more teams that can brawl SEC style, like Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, then they would lose a game.

They might. Might not. But it's not really Alabama's fault that Auburn and Arkansas picked this year to suck. To go undefeated they still have to beat a pretty good-looking A&M team and Georgia/Florida. If they do that, no one's going complain about their schedule.

Also at this point I'm not sure we're in a position to talk down about good teams that win close games.

After this past weekend I'm increasingly reconciling myself with the fact that we could go undefeated and not get a shot at the title. Which is kind of amazing when you think about it. One thing's for sure: It would shut up the "ND gets everything handed to it" crowd.

Bama has a lot more depth than us. I think they'd handle us, but who knows. Love to see the game.

May be true...but won't matter all that much in a 1-shot title game with 5 or 6 weeks off before it and 8 months off after it.

I'm not talking down any team. I'm also not complaining about the defending national champions (and two in the last three years) being #1 until they are beaten. I am simply arguing with the notion that we would have 15:00 of possession against Bama. That is ****ing retarded.

Bama is a very, very good team. But no one knows exactly how good they are, because the one competent opponent they've played against outplayed them and should have won the game. The one competent team they've played put up nearly 450 yards of offense against them, despite not being known at all for offensive precision (316 vs. A&M, 200 vs. Florida, 351 vs. Auburn, 396 vs. Towson).

If Mettenberger can pass the football on Bama's D, I think Golson and co. could do enough to earn more than 15:00 TOP. Also, with Wood, Riddick and GAIII healthy, ND could pound the ball at Bama with fresh legs all night again helping TOP. I think it would come down to our offensive line getting a consistent push, and our secondary not letting anyone behind them. Ultimately think Bama would overwhelm our offensive line, but it would be close going into the fourth.

JUST FOR FUN:

Here's a brainbuster for you all. Everyone is considering the scenario of the four unbeatens, but WHAT IF the top four teams finish with one loss? Is it likely? Probably not. But is it possible? Absolutely. Who would be the two best one-loss teams in the country?

Keep in mind this is just for fun, but what if the following teams finished the year with one loss? Note: Clearly not every team on this list can finish with one loss because some teams play against each other and possibly more than once...

Bama - remaining noteworthy games include vs #15 TAMU and most likely a matchup against UF or Georgia for the SEC Champ.

KSU - remaining noteworthy games include vs #24 OKState, @ TCU, and vs #17 Texas.

Oregon - remaining noteworthy games include vs #14 Stanford, @ #11 Oregon State, and potential Pac 12 Champ game.

ND - remaining noteworthy game @ #19 USC. By this time USC may not even be ranked, but it's still a big game for the Irish.

Georgia - remaining noteworthy game is the potential SEC Champ against Bama. A win would really stir up some BCS drama.

Florida - remaining noteworthy game @ #10 FSU and potential SEC Champ game against Bama.

Florida St - remaining noteworthy game vs #6 UF

Oregon State - remaining noteworthy game @ #14 Stanford, vs #3 Oregon, and potential Pac 12 Champ game.

Louisville - currently at 9-0, they have a game @ #23 Rutgers. Does an undefeated UL team get a shot? Probably not. But I didn't want to leave them off this list.

Clemson - remaining noteworthy game vs #8 South Carolina

Rutgers - remaining noteworthy game vs #9 UL. Is this the year they start the streak of all those championships the recruits think they'll win?! No....but they should at least be on my list.

It could get messy, but it'd sure be fun.

Still a bit upset that people are nothing but praise for Oregon after last weekend. Their offense deserves incredible praise but their defense should be ripped endlessly. In the history of the BCS, has a team ever made the championship if they gave up 50+ points in a game? 600+ yards on defense in a game?

USC is a great offensive team but 51 points was the most they scored all season.

in my eyes if we blow out BC and Wake Forest and then beat USC by more than 11 points we should be before Oregon

Stanford and Oregon is going to be interesting. Stanford will throw off the timing of Oregons offense, well see if Oregon can adjust. Stanford can pound the ball for long drives and match up well with their TE's.

Upset Alert on Oregon this weekend

Nope. Oregon's O has run rampant on Stanford for the last three years against better Stanford teams.

Was Stanfords defense better last year? I know their offense was, but I thought their defense was comparable.

Ok then. They're comparable.

1st Q- 8 pts
2nd Q-14 pts
3rd Q- 14 pts
4th Q- 17 pts
Oregon scored 53 on them. And if Stanford's offense is worse, it's not going to get better in the fourth quarter when the D is sucking air.

I undertand hammer's point above... but,

Every game is different... I think Oregon can lose to Oregon St., Stanford or in the Pac 12 title game depending on who they play...

I think Bama could lose to A&M or in the SEC title game...

I think K St. could lose to TCU or Texas...

now, odds are at least ONE of those games will go our way... we just need the right combo of two... I still say it's more likely only two teams go unbeaten than all four...

bottom line, none of this matters if Notre Dame wets the bed agaisnt BC or Wake and/or doesn't show up agsint SC...

I love'd Kelly's take... I. Dont. Care.

just win out.

Every game and every year is different. USC beat Oregon last year but that had no bearing on what took place this last Saturday.

Yep. If there's a Pac-12 team with the front seven to disrupt Oregon's offense, it's Stanford. That remains a big if, though.

Auburn the year they won it to Arkansas. May not have been quite 50 and 600 but was DAMN close if they didn't.

Come on Stanford!! With as much rushing at Oregon does, hopefully they can shut it down. Would knock Oregon out of the NCG picture AND make us look better for beating Stanford.

But of course, everything is pointless if we don't win out ourselves. Better make a statement these next 2 weeks (40 point wins) and then a good ol' beat down of the Trojans in the Coliseum.

Stanford has really struggled with spread offenses over the last few years. 2010 and 2011, the Cardinal's two best teams ever, couldn't even keep it close with the Ducks. I'm not holding my breath.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Stanford will get Oregon. OSU might also get them in the Civil War game, but I doubt it. I don't see KSU losing here on out unless Klein doesn't play (concussion) against TCU and TCU gets their sipped righted. Bama just passed their toughest test when LSU let them off the hook.

On Mike & Mike this morning Greenburg defended ND and said we shouldn't have been penalized because we won in OT. He mentioned that while Oregon did put up great offensive numbers they also gave up 51 points and none of the other unbeaten teams have given up anywhere near that many points in a game. He also satated that ND's SOS was 13th while Oregon's was around 50.

For some reason it seems to be fashionable to ignore what a team doesn't on defense and only use their record and offensive output as the criteria for rankings.
