USC Recruits React to the NCAA Sanctions
By Scott Schrader
Jun 10, 2010

With football, basketball and track over with, Farmer took his teammate Jason Gibson to USC for 3 1/2 hour unofficial visit last Wednesday. During the meeting they had an opportunity to get to know the coaches better, the system they run better and a detailed account on how they would be used if they should choose the Trojans.

There was also another topic that was covered, USC possibly facing stiff sanctions from the NCAA. The possibility of sanctions became a reality today for Farmer, Gibson and all of those playing for, committed to or seriously considering USC. "The NCAA sanctions aren't going to change anything for George," George Farmer IV said. SC is SC and we're going to love SC no matter what. We could care less about the sanctions. Plus it's a great school, it has the best coaching staff and great tradition. Besides, if you're looking at going to a school for athletics first, you're already off in the wrong direction. Academics comes first for George." ...

More at the LINK.

The article was written 3 days ago ... maybe it's starting to sink in. It's a long time to Signing Day.

I mean... do they need someone to make a powerpoint to show them how this will affect their program?

My head hurts.

I missed this thread. I know the basketball coaches at his school, and he is about as close to a USC lock as you will ever see...ever since he was a freshman. Pete Carroll recognized the talent at his school, and basically set up shop inside of it, and has made it a USC pipeline school. And the Scout guys are very close to his father, and have basically all but said he is a silent commit. When ND offered him and he said he'd give ND a look and when his coach said he was wide open and that ND stood a chance, I laughed and even PM'd Steve Wiltfong telling him not even waste his time with Farmer (he told me that he figured as much but he had to report what he was told, which I completely get).

Anyway, he came out today with his top 5 to Scout (surprise surprise), and it is USC, Oregon, Alabama, Florida and Miami. In other words, SC.

Oh, and even better, SC fans are still bitter that it turns out that Josh Shirley was a silent to UCLA, complaining that he wasted their time, but SC fans in the very next breathe are all giddy about Farmer being a silent. Those morons don't even get the irony LOL...

I believe Ambles will be transferring after the semester and has been kicked off the team a while ago. He will be transferring to either the SEC or ACC according to transfer papers that were filed.

USC is going to have 5* talent at QB, WR and RB for at least the next 4 years. The only saving grace is that Lane Kiffin really sucks as a coach and will not develop talent at all. With that in mind, I could give a crap who they sign.

They always have great WR talent. Thats the only position that Lame Kitten can coach well. I'm just happy with the fact that our DB's are getting very good coaching and are starting to hit with authority. That'll make them think about getting hit first and worry about the ball later.

Go Irish!

So the nation's former #1 WR is now moving to RB.

He will be used as a "bigger version of Percy Harvin."

USC fan reaction:

Take the number one WR out of HS and make him a RB? SC is now six deep at RB. I know one thing, if this move succeeds, Lane will be called a genius, but if it fails, he'll go down as one of the dumbest SOB in dumb SOB history.

USC fan reaction:

They are super-hyped about him (the coaches/media) as a RB, and he night even see the field vs. Cal this week.

Kiffin is a mess when it comes to handling his RBs. Doesn't seem like any of them are happy accept for Tyler. None of the others know when their next carry is coming, if ever. Can't see them being any happier if Farmer gets some carries.

I'm much less worried about him taking hand-offs than lining up as a WR.

Will run a lot of wheel routes, screens, swing passes, and motion out of backfield.

I could see this causing potential match up problems.

@NDinLA I read on 247 that they are still planning to redshirt him this year because he has not had enough practice/reps at RB yet and they don't want to burn a year for 3/4 of a season. Are you hearing differently?

Quoting as not to totally derail, but doesn't the possibility of his playing in this capacity as a form of misinformation make sense? Make Cal prepare for a lot of backfield motion that isn't going to come game-day as they preserve his redshirt.

Maybe I'm giving Kiffy & Co. too much credit.

Me too.. The running game does not worry me with Irish Chocolate and the boys.

Not so sure. Lee and Woods run very good routes and Farmer is more straight line speed. I would be more worried if Farmer were to motion into the slot than anything else. That would be a huge match up problem for us.
