The Cooper Flanagan update just makes me laugh. We don't expect to see him pretty much at all this year, right? Tearing your Achilles in January will do that. I really only remember prime T Sizzle doing that back in the 2012 season for the Ravens

Biggest (& maybe only real) concern is QB. ND kept a lid on leaks so we can only go by what little we heard from the beat which is CJ can drop some beautiful dimes but also some really bad interceptions when he presses. His inexperience & being in a hostile territory could be a recipe for disaster. He really doesn’t pose a threat to hurt UM w/ his legs so it’ll be imperative that the OL block their asses off. If they can’t handle the rush &/or establish running lanes, CJ could be in for a long night & we’ll realize even more how important Leonardā€˜s wheels were last season.

I trust Denbrock to put CJ in a position to succeed. Again, that will put the onus on the OL & RB to really do their job in pass pro. None of us knows truly how close Minchey & Carr were. If it was even, is it possible they went w/ Carr b/c they’ve invested more NIL $ in him? Or is it just the long term upside? In this new world of NIL, I can see where position battles that go down to the wire could consider ā€œsalary investedā€ as the deciding factor. Pure speculation on my end, but I think it’ll become a factor for all teams at one point or another.

Curious to know if 1) Cree got too much praise too early 2) he is hitting a wall 3) Golden and Mark are just better (already)

*edit* - granger beat me above....

PC reasons for optimism:

Freeman could not say enough glowing things about the DT room. Said Onye is playing as well as anyone at DT since he's been here. That's not a throw away statement. Coach Free made it sound like Onye is going to be very disruptive. And we have Traore and Young and Hinish starting with him. That's a helluva group to block.

The reasons for pause are: young QB, low confidence in FGs, how well does the OL work together?

Everything else feels arrow up right now.

ISD’s depth chart, put together on their limited practice viewings, turned out to be extremely accurate.

Watch Denbrock surprise everybody and call some type of QB run/draw early just to give Miami something to think about.

I'm not worried about Carr being consumed by the environment. Understanding that playing and traveling are two different things, but he traveled to A&M, so he at least knows what to expect.

Absher (assuming Lambert starts) will be the first man in at any of the 5 positions.
Not sure about center, although he apparently took some snaps there in camp. Otting is pretty well set at #2 Center. But Absher is probably next man in at C and G with Will Black lurking.

My understanding listening to a few different pods that he'd be first in at center too. But, no one really knows for sure except the coaches I suppose.

I'm so torn on CJ.

One part of me says Freeman orchestrated this sandbagging of CJ through camp and that he knows he is going to be a dude from day 1. They are going to cut him loose and watch him cook.

The other part of me hasn't seen a good QB at ND since Brady Quinn and is like you serious Clark?

I still contend that the competition was intended to find different limits for the QBs, stress their strengths and weaknesses, put them in positions they wouldn't normally be in and see how they responded.

Now that prep has started and Miami game plan is being put in, much less will be put on the QBs to make or break the offense. We have the best RB combo in the country, we'll use that. That will also help the young bucks exploit the Defenses that sell out to stop the run.

For years, we've been waiting for a QB and receivers that could threaten defenses vertically that played close to the line of scrimmage and we just haven't had it. We do now.

Will he make mistakes? Sure. But defenses won't be able to sell out and not be punished.

Jimmy Clausen was good....
And, there's no way Freeman completely psy-op'd all of America on the CJ Kenny competition.

However, my "hope" is...CJ was a little over-hyped with the comp and forced it a little too much and ND's D is just so damn good that they capitalized on all the mistakes. AND that this will make game days feel easy peasy. (plus no competition and more comfort with the job secured)

I completely agree. Clausen was a damn good QB, and was dragged down by Charlie's defensive ineptitude. He also played with turf toe majority of his Jr. year.

I'm probably splitting hairs here, but maybe we need to define "good."

Deshone Kizer and Ian Book were both objectively "good" QBs, IMO. So was Riley Leonard in his own way.

We call it "Hold me I'm Irish" syndrome. Common in millennial ND fans, in addition to high blood pressure.

I think the key word here is "if he has time to throw". Beck looks good when he has time. When he's pressured, he's absolutely horrendous.

Jamie brought up a good point on Power Hour today. Beck's issues weren't just Georgia's receivers dropped the football. He had a good offensive line last year. There were 4 games in which Beck saw pressure 30% or more last year. These were his stats for those games:

Kentucky: 15/24 160 yards 0 TD 0 INT
Texas: 23/41 175 yards 0 TD 3 INTs
Ole Miss: 20/31 186 yards 0 TD 1 INT
Texas: 7/13 56 yards 0 TD 0 INT

The whole notion that Beck had nothing around him last year is just a load of fish paste. Keep in mind, his offensive line consisted of 3 guys who went in the 2nd/3rd round of the '25 draft. That offense had 6 guys get drafted this year.

I think Miami has better tackles than Georgia had last year, but I think Georgia had a considerably better interior than Miami has going into this game. And unlike the Sugar Bowl, you're going to see a lot more than just Junior, Oben and a frosh Bryce Young coming off the edge.
Well fucking said!!!
LFG!!!!!
I hate Miami like most of you hate Meatchicken.
