I wonder if that fat Miami fan on Youtube is talking shit already? Can't seem to find his channel. It was always fun watching him eat his words after a loss, but of course he was gloating in 2017 thinking they were the shit when they completely collapsed afterwards. They finished the season with 3 straight losses to Pitt, Clemson, and Wisky.

Word out of Miami camp is Josiah Trader was rolled up on and is in a boot. Would be a blow as he was expected to start at the X.

Sounds similar to what happened with Cross last year. In that case, no chance he plays against ND.

Cross was out for the remainder of the regular season and only returned for the CFP 6 weeks later and was still very much hobbled.

First year starting QB's who won it all:

Greg McElroy (2009)
Cam Newson (2010)
AJ McCarron (2011)
Jameis Winston (2013)
Cardale Jones (2014)
Jake Coker (2015)
Trevor Lawrence (2018)

Not to say having a new starting QB with little to no experience isn't nothing, but it's definitely happened before. Even guys like Tua, whom was a freshman, dug Alabama out of a hole and won them a national title. Even Stetson Bennett had limited experience in 2020, and none of it was good experience because he played like turbo ass.
Now list all the first year starting QBs that didn’t win it all…

Trader had 91 yards last year regardless if he plays or not I’d rather him play

They will just end up starting 3 transfer WRs instead of 2, don't think they lose a lot. I think the guy from BYU is inline to start now.

There are only three guys for Miami that I give a shit about them getting hurt -- Mauigoa, Bain, Beck. The drop off from them to their backups is huge.

I know they have high expectations for JoJo Trader and a freshman Malachi Toney as the potential game breakers at WR. The transfers are expected to be steady vet types.

Today's Miami practice report:

WR seems like an issue playmaker wise.

Is it just me, or is everyone touting their CB's to be some of the best in CFB?

One thing I’d watch out for is how the receivers match Beck’s experience. Like Ward, Beck is throwing to spots/space rather than directly at guys sometimes. So the receiver needs to see the field and be ready for the throw and not be suprised. This is the second week the receiver hasn’t seen the space during a live rep resulting in an incompletion

Sounds like our corners could cause some problems.

Beck didn't get to practice with the team during spring due to injury right? That was something that was used to explain Leonard's slow start last year so I guess we'll see if the logic holds true.

I don't think Timmy is the real deal, good not great. UGA had such better tools around him than Miami. I think this year proves to be the most he gets paid to play football in his career.

Probably not 100% accurate, but its insane how much they are depending on transfers
Yeah, this is mostly accurate.

Basically, they lost a great QB + some very productive WRs. For most of the year they had the #1 offense in CFB. Their defense was horrible, so they went out and spent millions in the transfer portal to bring in a brand new secondary + their one returning good young CB.

This approach can work, as evidenced by how Indiana performed last year with a mercenary team. Miami has a brand new passing game, returning very good OL, brand new secondary, talented-but-not-deep-front-7. The DC they added is very good and the concern would be that he has an "Elko" style effect on them like we got when we replaced BVG. But they're going to be starting 40%-50% transfers.

DIdn't most of the IU transfers come with him from JMU? That would mean they had some familiarity with him.

FWIW, some of the guys on this team now were in middle school that year.

All that matters is winning and starting off 1-0.
And most, if not all; of the coaches from that staff are now gone. Only folks living in the past on this game are meathead Twitter warriors.

I feel like their offensive numbers were inflated last year. They faced a lot of really bad defenses, starting out with Ball State, Florida A&M, and USF, all giving up 50+. I don't think they faced a ranked team at all during the regular season, not till their bowl game with Iowa State which they lost (One of their 3 losses among their last 4 games). They looked great on paper, but they were overhyped!

And all the guys every year who are first year starters that dont even make a playoff or bowl game? My point is you named like 5 guys that have done something making it seem like no reason it cant happen again but fail to mention that the hit rate on it is probably less than .05%

I actually think this is a scenario you might want to bring up the past to prepare for the environment. Can’t downplay the hostility there. The 2017 coach and team weren’t ready. The 2025 one can and should be ready.

Definitely use it when preparing so they know WTH they’re walking into. I have the utmost confidence in MF & the staff having them prepared mentally. Right now my only concern is QB play

You also have to take into consideration first year starters on playoff/championship caliber teams. Every year there's realistically 8-10, maybe less teams competing for a championship. So a much smaller sample size makes for a higher hit rate. Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Alabama (Technically Oregon and Georgia too) all have 1st year starters. All those guys have more experience than Carr/Minchey but it's their first year being full time starters. That's 6 of the nine title contenders. Good chance that one or more at least makes the semi-final.
