Ace has been sick for awhile now. He has a rare form of lymphoma.

The last I heard from some friends who know him is that his prognosis isn't good.

He's only 26, I'm 26, stuff like this always freaks me out. I hope he pulls through.

I'm 28. I agree, this stuff really puts the fragility of life into perspective. Theres not really much you can do but live. On the positive side, it really makes you think about all the insignificant bullshit we get wrapped up during our lives, when stories like this pop up I take them to heart and try to take all I can out of them.

Good luck young man.

There's really nothing you can say. It pisses me off when people die so young, especially from things outside of their control.

All you can do is use it as a reminder to appreciate each and every day. RIP Asaph, God bless your family.

This hurts me personally...I came in the same year as Ace and he was always so friendly and open with all the student body, athletes or non-athletes...He was somebody who embodied what the university is all about. I had nothing but respect and admiration for the way he carried himself. The ND family definitely lost a good young man. I appreciated our friendship. RIP, Ace...Til I see you again, watch over your family, friends, and the University we both love so dear

Well said. I never knew him personally, many of my Siegfried friends did. Here's a picture they've been sharing on Facebook this afternoon. Ace was just being himself.

He was a 2 star FB coming out of college, 2 more stars than Rudy. When he was recruited ND fans said, "Who?" ... "From CT! Are you kidding? There are no football players in CT." The only other thing we knew was he could bench the world.

He only had 44 carries and 98 Yds in his career about two thirds of those came as a freshman. As a senior he only had 1 carry for 2 Yds.

Despite his 2 star background ND fans had unjustified visions of the return of "The Bus" (as they do with many big bodied backfield recruits). Many never forgave him that shortcoming. Many were outright cruel in GameDay posts because he didn't break tackles and run to the house like Bettis nor throw devastating blocks like Edwards, the last great ND FB.

He was a 2 star football player but he was a 5 star person, read Salty's farewell.

Rest well Asaph!

And may we, as fans, speak a little more kinder of those that where our colors for us while they can still read our words.

Damn, I didn't know him personally but I used to always see him at Rolfs (mostly tipping the gatorade machine to get free stuff)... he will be missed. He was a beast of a man. RIP Asaph, prayers with his family/friends.
