The real questions is who is to blame: The school or NCAA for letting this happen? The NCAA needs to step into these situations and do something. How can they turn a blind eye to situations like this or the 11 arrest so far at UGA this year? I guess it is all about the dollar.

The "mystery" about why this doesn't hurt his recruiting isn't much of a mystery. Just meditate on the North Carolina situation, or the computer class fiasco at FSU, or a lot of other outlandish things surrounding "southern football" and ask yourself two questions: A). do you really think that you hear all the scams and cheats and thoroughly illegal stuff that these programs "offer" their players??; and B). do you really think that such "perks" aren't a big "positive" selling point with a certain kind of recruit?? A little cash...a little "academic" [ha ha] workload...a chance to spend all ones time in the weight room getting ready for the NFL. The North Carolina thread exposed that particular illegally-oriented assistant coach in all his grossness. And, I wonder what these guys are told to do at night?...homework?? Many of these programs are gigantic Roman Colosseum Gladiator Factories with cash flow needs to match. But no one's going to touch the Golden Goose except at risk to their own jobs, stress levels, hate-mail. ...gets my moral hackles up since young people are involved, but...end of rant.

EDIT: Let me clarify...I think the article did a brilliant of asking "what if it was your daughter." Excellent point. A very effective way to point out hypocrisy. I just don't really think we should post a picture of Urban's daughter on the site. That's all.

Plain and simple... if you get a football degree from a Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, LSU, etc. you have very little chance at a successful career if you do not make the NFL. No offense to those schools, but a general studies degree from Florida isn't worth much more than a high school degree. And that's even if you graduate... a lot of those coaches pull schollies from you heaven forbid you get hurt or not make the 2 deep.

Compare that with Notre Dame... which has the #1 business school, graduates near 100% of athletes and has all kinds of career placement opportunities and a ridiculous alumni network and it isn't even close what is the sensible choice for a player.

For instance, there is a lacrosse networking event in NYC the weekend of the Navy game. It's an event set up to help lax players network with ND alums and pursue promising careers after graduation. Oh, and we're starting the day on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for the opening bell.

Tell me any southern football power that gives their student athletes opportunities like this.
