Voters have different philosophies: Whole season view (we're not that attractive) vs Quality right now (no one would really WANT to play us.)

What's that? A top 8 to 25th ranking range? If we're not in the championship race, who really cares? Beat USC and get a good bowl. Don't beat USC and get a lesser bowl. Rankings now are pretty irrelevant ... but IE gets bowel sweats about everything. Beat USC, win a good bowl, recruits will love that --- that's all that's going on here.

Well, considering we need to be a top 12 team to get a NY6 bid, which in my opinion would be a pretty nice cap to a wild season, and the current perception by the committee is we are behind several other teams we will be competing with for an at large bid, I think it's somewhat relevant. But sure, let's go with "bowel sweats"

You have to think if all three of ND, Utah, and KSU win out, we'll have the better resume. Utah only beat USC by a few.

Little irked by the #15 ranking with Utah and KSU ahead of us, I think the AP poll got it right. But if we beat $C that will take care of itself.
after the Stanford game I legit stopped worrying about any of this....

The part of the polls that is weird is that they are not weighting people evenly on good wins/bad losses.

LSU lost to FSU (bad) and Tennessee (blowout but good opponent). Not punished at all, because they have an OT win over Bama.

USC has one "good" loss and is otherwise undefeated, and is ranked behind LSU. This would imply that it's weighting good wins over bad losses, otherwise there is no rationale on "resume" for LSU to be ranked where they are. Same thing with Clemson being lower ranked than expected.

But then look at where Notre Dame sits relative to someone like Penn State. Penn State has zero wins of note and a soft SOS. Three loss Kansas State has ZERO quality wins and three losses. So Notre Dame is being ranked where they are means they're emphasizing who they lost to versus who they've beat + SOS. It's just wildly inconsistent and the biggest takeaway is that they're rigging it to give LSU a clear path in should they beat Georgia. Everything is contrived for clean bowl seeding and playoff decisions.

it's just SEC,... I have to believe if it was the other way around with good wins/bad losses the rankings wouldn't change at all

Why would we want a good bowl? This has been the hardest schedule ND has played in years. If we beat USC I want a cupcake bowl game so we can cruise to 10-3 and AP top 10.

The only NY6 spots available for ND this year are either against the top G5 team (most likely) or the top ACC team not in the playoff.

I'm befuddled though that they're even disrespecting other SEC teams to prop up LSU and ensure that they can get in if they upset Georgia. Tennessee blasted LSU at home. Tennessee has wins over both Bama and LSU. Their losses are Georgia and South Carolina.

They are ranked WAY behind LSU only because Hendon Hooker got hurt. It's a joke. Nothing to do with results on the field, they just know that they don't project well for the playoffs because their starting QB is out.

It's all just very contrived. They need to do away with the committee entirely and go back to polls // etc. for the 12 team playoff.

I would argue that LSU's losses are not "bad" though... FSU has turned out to be decent, though up-and-down.

My first glance just tells me that you're punished for truly bad losses. PSU being propped up pisses me off, particularly because they lost to the only two teams they played with a pulse. They should be flip-flopped with Washington based on the criteria it appears the committee is going for.

Rankings should be determined by BCS formula -- it always worked fine.

FSU WAS bad though to start the season. They got better after their BYE A

I think the computers had something to offer at very least

The irony of the computer polls was that every time they diverged at all from the human pollsters, an effort was made to immediately retool them to match the humans. Basically they were an objective metric that was neutered every time people didn't like the objective results lol.

If we beat USC we will have had our second top 10 win in November and ending the regular season on a 8-1 run. Who would you be afraid to play in a NY6 bowl game?

I care more about ending that gaudy NY6 bowl streak, which would be a fantastic way to end the season after where we sat in September.

The most realistic option for a NY6 game is the Cotton bowl which would be against a G5 team. It will be one of the AAC teams. Either Cincy, Tulane, or UCF. I'd take a game against any of them in a heartbeat.
