Another Shooting

The victims have my sympathy. They always will. I am very active in gun regulation reform BTW. I have been for over 10 years. I walk the walk so I CAN talk the talk. Thoughts and prayers do nothing to solve the problem. Its an out, that is all.

Posting THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS immediately after a shooting is on par with posting RELIGION OF PEACE immediately after a terror attack.

It definitely will elicit a response from certain people.

Absolutely not. Thoughts are prayers is said only to make the person saying it feel better about not actually doing something about this. That is not the same as someone criticizing Islam for terrorist acts.

How many more shootings will it take to get something done? Thoughts and prayers are great inside my own head or home but does nothing to address the problem. But yet that is all we will hear from anyone in a position to do something about it.

I saw where a pet was shoved in an airline overhead storage and it died and within 24 hours there was legislation approved that no live animals can be placed in a plane's overhead storage bin. 7000 + 3 kids have dies this year and ...thoughts and prayers

Dont get mad at me.... do something

I don't disagree with much you say here, but the problem is doing something that actually helps solve the issue instead of doing something that makes people feel better but has no real effect. "Something done" is a long way from "something that works."

You said it was used in sarcasm though, not an attempt to feel better about doing nothing.

Someone took offense to the perceived condescension towards people expressing empathy to a bad situation, as others take offense to the sarcastic notion Islam is responsible for all terror.

I get why you posted what you did, and I get why that other dude posted what he did. We all have opinions that others dont agree with, or we are all giant vaginas with no opinion at all. Definitely not trying to make anything personal with you or anyone else.

I am going to go home and write my governor, mayor, and Fed and state reps, again, and provide my thoughts on sensible actions to take legislatively. What is anyone else going to do?

This is garbage. Thoughts and prayers do no harm and for the most part are sincere. For some people they may hate what happened and how it happened but think that's all they can do at the time.

Were you hurling criticisms at people attending candlelight vigils (thoughts and prayers) after terror attacks? No you were not.

You have every right to contact your local, state and federal lawmakers. Fact is those letters are going right into the garbage can upon receipt. Not going to make a difference and doesn't give you any moral high ground over anyone else.

Doing no harm is not the same as doing something constructive. FTR we here in charleston have been able to get more resource officers in each of the Charleston County School District Schools because of efforts of groups and people like me and my wife. I am not claiming moral high ground, just trying to be real.

I have also always received a response from my local government people and even be able to meet face to face. Its the feds Reps that always send out the canned responses.

Agree, but I am going to appreciate the hell out of everyone who visits me if I have terminal cancer to express sympathy, and not be upset if they dont beat the bricks for months after my passing urging the government to release the cure for the disease to the general public.

This idea that people being sympathetic can suck an egg because they arent changing their life schedule to accommodate your cause is weird.

So if people don't take the action you choose to take, you equate that to doing nothing? Having a cup of coffee with a city council member altered policy in your town? Writing letters to your governor and Congress reps are also a waste of time but surely make you feel better because you think you did something.

You clearly are claiming moral high ground, and on top of that you're giving the finger to people sending condolences to innocent victims of an attack. Good God...

When did I say you can’t be sympathetic? I clearly stated that I am very sympathetic to the victims. Always. It’s exactly why I chose to do something.

I know it's not a shooting however since you liberal idiots aren't talking about it a 7th explosion in Austin Texas.

Police confirm that this wasn't an explosion just a incendiary device.

Another one, this one semi-local to me.

Also in MD you must be 21 to have a hand gun. So the real question is how did he get this gun?

Perhaps because this is the "Another Shooting" thread, and not the "Another Explosion" thread.

I'm going to continue to do what I've been doing. Getting to the core of the problem; The Heart! To push people in my community to Love thy Neighbor. Encourage parents/leaders to be present in their households, to love their children and give them proper discipline. To communicate the importance of letting even random strangers know that someone cares about them. To teach any kid that will listen that revenge and grudges damage the holder of such the most.

Ephesians 4:31-32
Proverbs 10:12, 15:1
Mathew 18:21-35
John 15:12

A+.

I think this addresses the root of the problem and will be dramatically more effective in the long run than anything else. The cause of gun violence isn't guns. It's our fractured, hateful, broken culture and the values and messed up individuals that it produces. Fix that and the violence problems go away.

Its funny becasue I am doing exactly all of this. My wife and I are involved with the "illumnation Project" which is an outreach between community leaders, religious groups, police, and residents of areas with gun violence. You can check it out here:

Citigroup restricts gun sales by business customers (CNN Money)

Citigroup is putting new restrictions on how and when its corporate clients can sell guns.
The company said Thursday that it will bar companies that it does business with from selling guns to people under the age of 21 and require customers to undergo background checks for all firearm purchases.

Citigroup (C) also banned its clients from selling high-capacity magazines and bump stocks, a gun accessory that was used by the shooter that murdered more than 50 people in Las Vegas in October.

Citigroup also said it's prepared to lose business if its clients don't comply.

"We know our clients also care about these issues and we have begun to engage with them in the hope that they will adopt these best practices over the coming months," the bank said in a blog post. "If they opt not to, we will respect their decision and work with them to transition their business away from Citi."

Citigroup's executive vice president, Edward Skyler, said in a blog post Thursday that the decision was "not centered on an ideological mission to rid the world of firearms," but about implementing "common-sense measures that would help prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands."

"For too many years, in too many places, our country has seen acts of gun violence that have resulted in heartbreaking losses," Skyler wrote. "As a society, we all know that something needs to change. And as a company, we feel we must do our part."

Wounds From Military-Style Rifles? ‘A Ghastly Thing to See’ (NY Times)

Trauma surgeons tell what it is really like to try to repair such devastating injuries. “Bones are exploded, soft tissue is absolutely destroyed,” one said.

Perhaps no one knows the devastating wounds inflicted by assault-style rifles better than the trauma surgeons who struggle to repair them. The doctors say they are haunted by their experiences confronting injuries so dire they struggle to find words to describe them.

At a high school in Parkland, Fla., 17 people were recently killed with just such a weapon — a semiautomatic AR-15. It was legal there for Nikolas Cruz, 19, the suspect in the shooting, to buy a civilian version of the military’s standard rifle, while he would have had to be 21 to buy a less powerful and accurate handgun.

Many factors determine the severity of a wound, including a bullet’s mass, velocity and composition, and where it strikes. The AR-15, like the M4 and M16 rifles issued to American soldiers, shoots lightweight, high-speed bullets that can cause grievous bone and soft tissue wounds, in part by turning sideways, or “yawing,” when they hit a person. Surgeons say the weapons produce the same sort of horrific injuries seen on battlefields.

Civilian owners of military-style weapons can also buy soft-nosed or hollow-point ammunition, often used for hunting, that lacks a full metal jacket and can expand and fragment on impact. Such bullets, which can cause wider wound channels, are proscribed in most military use. ...
