"Well, I think you're overlooking the fact of the grittiness of this movie that validates me as an adult who likes a children's fantasy series" LMAO

My personal favorite: "You know the original trilogy, it was little hokey, it had a sense of adventure and wonderment and excitement, and it sparked kid's imaginations... But I think what they're learning now is what the fans want. And what the fans want is for Darth Vader to hack people to death with a lightsaber."

It is really interesting to read and watch videos on the all of the changes that were made during reshoots.

It's pretty clear that the transmission of the plans was supposed to happen on the beach, which is why the trailer shows the whole Rogue One crew running at the feet of the Imperial Walkers, as well as Krennic showing up for a "final showdown" of some sort.

That also leads me to believe that the TIE showing up to confront Jyn at the top of the tower in the trailer was probably Cassian's "surprise, I'm not dead" moment. Jyn was probably supposed to be trapped at the top of the tower with the plans but no way down, when Cassian shows up, having regained consciousness and hijacking a TIE to help continue the fight/knowing Jyn is going to need an extraction.

I guess the other possibility is that Cassian shows up with a TIE in order to provide them a way off of the planet, providing an alternate ending where not all of them die.

I don't have the quote handy, but the TIE scene has been addressed. It was just a regular cut, not a result of the reshoots. The reason they cut it is because they had just shot a similar scene with an AT-ACT where it rose up and was about to blast someone before being taken out from the side by a rebel fighter. Doing the same thing with the TIE would have felt redundant.

That doesn't strike you as a flaw in the film? That the primary characters were only tangentially related to the best parts of said film?

Not really. I just watched knowing that these primary characters of this film were part of a greater story arc in the galaxy. There was so much going on in those final moments, I felt that it would have been forced if they were the central aspect of the ending.

I will say I agree with others that the cliches of Cassian rescuing Jyn, and them embracing as they are about to die were excessive, but I think they were done in part to try and make us embrace the characters. It was forced IMO.

That's Plinkett's point. The only reason the film is worth anything is because "Star Wars."

As if little kids wouldn't like Vader being a badass. I absolutely love RLM but I think they're dead wrong on this one. The loot crate spoof almost made me choke I was laughing so hard.

I'll try and share these every week. Kristian Harloff and Ken Napzok are my two favorite Star Wars guys, along with Joseph Scrimshaw (not in this episode). They're much more steeped in the lore than the RLM guys.

ETA: The title of the video is a bit misleading. This is their full weekly show, they only talk about Carrie Fisher in the beginning.

Interesting. Seems to infer that both Luke and Leia may not survive this movie.

What the what!?

It's interesting to note that Disney hasn't been using Episode VII or Episode VIII in their marketing. It's probably a smart play because we're going to get into ridiculous territory when Episode XIX comes out in 2039.

fixed... haha

so this is the next film in line with Force Awakens? The title could just be a play on Luke being the last remaining Jedi or Luke and Rey together becoming the last of the Jedi.... I'm not reading too much into it... but I think we all know the main characters are all going to be written off somehow sooner than later.

I haven't followed everything super close but if it's called the Skywalker Saga doesn't that all but confirm Rey is either Luke or Leia's daughter??

That's my personal theory as well. The counter-point would be that the sequel trilogy's central character is Kylo Ren, not Rey.

Ah yes, forgot about that angle.... you'd have to imagine the central character being a good guy or redeemable at some point tho... I mean maybe I'm giving too much credit to the film makers but it's kind of beyond the point of full redemption for him now isn't it?

How so? Luke is the last Jedi.

Yeah, I just thought the title was a reference to Luke.

However, if Luke is the last Jedi, it could be a play on the idea that Luke will meet his demise at the end of the film, leaving Rey as "The Last Jedi." This is assuming that her training with Luke is the primary aspect of the film (which I'm betting it is, since the title focuses on "Jedi"), because then it would follow that there needs to be a conflict/cliffhanger of some sort at the end, which could be The First Order and/or Kylo Ren showing up to capture/kill Luke.

It's interesting to note that Disney hasn't been using Episode VII or Episode VIII in their marketing. It's probably a smart play because we're going to get into ridiculous territory when Episode XIX comes out in 2039.

I thought this, too. Their official release calls it "Episode VIII," but that's about the only place you will see "Episode VIII"

Not if you subscribe to the theory that it was actually Han that turned the lightsaber on and killed himself, thus protecting the last bit of "light" that was present in his son, keeping alive the possibility that he will turn on Snoke at some point.

It's fun to think that his "I will finish what you started" line spoken to the burned mask of Vader is actually a reference to turning on his master at some point in an effort to end the Dark Side, like Vader did to Palpetine.

Rey is a Jedi so I don't see how Luke can be "The Last Jedi."

That's why I'm thinking he and Leia (another Jedi) both die during the film.

Nice Force User =/= Jedi

Leia is not a Jedi. Neither is Rey. Luke was trained by Master Yoda, who at the time was the last Jedi Master. Yoda told Luke that his training was complete in ROtJ, so as a result Luke is the only living Jedi.

I wouldn't call Rey a Jedi yet as she hasn't had any training (well at least that we know of). Currently she is force sensitive/force user.

You are right about Leia. But regarding Rey she is going to be trained by Luke and will become a Jedi. By the end of the film there is really no way both her and Luke are alive. Unless she doesn't undergo training which wouldn't make much sense.
