I very much enjoyed the movie but didn't love it.
What I thought was unnecessarily nonsensical about the plot, unless I missed something (admittedly very possible), is that the military force used to fight the reorganizing Imperial forces was not the main Republic fleet. How is it that the group used to fight the First Order, which raised apparently a very large and capable army of Stormtroopers and had a whole bunch of TIE fighters and its own fleet of ships, is some sub-group called the Resistance? Even the name of the group itself doesn't make sense. The Resistance? That's an appropriate name for a group fighting an overwhelming incumbent power, not a military force fighting a rebel group, which the First Order more or less was given that it was a reorganizing force from a collapsed government / military that had been soundly defeated a few decades earlier.
How does the Republic not throw the full force of its fleet to stomp out the First Order? They're just going to wait around and let the Imperial Forces reorganize and then in one swoop destroy the capital of the Republic and the entirety of the Republic's fleet? What? How does that even make any sense? Seriously, they just let the First Order wipe out the Republic because the fighting force used to confront the First Order was just some sub-force with a couple dozen X-Wings instead of the entirety of the Republic fleet.
