It did take him a while to win a Rose Bowl, I think he lost his first four or five attempts... so I assume there used to be quite a bit of talk about that...

Pretty tough times for them towards the end of the Brady Hoke tenure, when despite a student body population of 44k+ they had to give away tickets and could not fill the stadium.

They gave them away with bottles of coke. That was hilarious

Half of a National Championship ('97) in the past sixty-eight years does not lessen my respect for their students who achieve a degree worthy of their work and commitment. Still, the football drought as far as NCs continues.

Their previous NC was in 1948.

You could say that of players anywhere: there are some students at every school who actually do work and earn degrees. There is not much evidence that Michigan holds its players to high standards, they only avoided a UNC-style scandal because their administration misled and/or lied to the NCAA. And to be clear, they aren't getting degrees from the "elite" parts of Michigan. Michigan is just another giant state university; the only thing that makes it different from Florida, LSU, etc., is that it has some distinguished graduate programs.

Michigan is a much better undergraduate institution than Florida, LSU, etc. It is on par with UNC, Virginia, UCLA, etc. But not as good for undergrad as places like Stanford, Harvard, UChicago, etc.

For graduate schools, it is top 10 in law, business, medicine, etc. but that means nothing when it comes to the football program.

Overall, ND is a better option than Michigan for undergrads and Michigan is a better option than ND for (most) graduate programs.

The issue is not where Michigan is ranked in the US News undergrad rankings, which are of dubious value anyway, imo. (Obviously the rankings of graduate programs have basically no relation to the sports programs.) The issue is whether or not athletes are held to the same standards as other students, and it is not obvious that they are at Michigan. UC-Berkeley is highly ranked, too, but it has had notoriously awful graduation rates for athletes.

I don't think that is true. A Michigan undergrad degree is much more prestigious than one from most other land-grant state universities. But very true that they do not hold their players to the same standards as ND, Stanford, etc.

I'm having a debate with my skunkbear friends and was wondering if any of you could give me a run down of the ped suspicions around Harbaugh's teams? Any articles or break downs are appreciated. Thx

I wonder what is in the shoe box? Perhaps a pair of jordans?

They could have at least given the Pope a nice new box... that box looks like its been sitting in the back room of the local Foot Locker for the past few months.

A helmet and pair of shoes don't make up for a century of prejudice towards Catholics.

A decade?

I laughed and am curious to hear comments on this from all the Walverines who complained about ND leaving our series behind a few years back.

Well because its justified in their eyes.

Its just like the Peppers story. Everyone of those turd bags defended him saying that he over hydrated when everyone with a half a brain knows exactly why the test was foul. They are truly blinded like never before by their arrogance that hangs over the midwest like polution in China.

For example:
