I doubt they'd really fire Day but if they wanted to, the playoffs make the timing very interesting. They'll be in it, and the coach hiring cycle will move forward without them. Though I guess if they lose in the first round it'd still be early enough, and if they advance he'll save his job.
I think if they lose in the first round they absolutely fire him. They spent $20M on this roster to... beat two good teams and lose to a bad one? Not make the Big Ten title game?

I think if he wins 2 playoff games he probably keeps his job.

If Ohio State was just heading to a meaningless bowl game, he would have been fired by now. Since Ohio State is technically in the national championship picture still, they won't do it until he loses a first round game. I suppose he can save himself by making it to the championship game. A deemed bad loss will finish him off.

I did not appreciate until living in Columbus that many OSU fans (I've heard estimates of 50%) would rather beat UM and lose a national championship than lose to UM and win a national championship. I consider that pretty bizarre but it is what it is.

It goes back to the 1800's. Ohio and Michigan went to war over Toledo. There has been bad blood between the states since then. As a compromise to end the conflict the US Government offered Michigan the territory that became their upper peninsula and statehood.

The only thing I get about it is that Michigan is just that hateable.

It's 100% the biggest rivalry in sports. There are real world, off the field implications, so much bad blood.

He’s lost 4 straight to that shit hole in Michigan. He has to win it all or he’s gone.

Yep, even if they win the national championship this year it's still a failure of their season. The only 2 states to ever go to war with each other and it was over Toledo. I still say Ohio lost that one too.

Edit: I see I am being a little redundant here

He is nowhere near as good as he used to be with X and Os.

I know people like Macafee, but apart from Saban breaking down film, GameDay is useless to me anymore. And Fox trots out Urban and those guys. NO thanks.

Yeah ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports are all ripe for some disruption for covering live sports... I'm not sure what that is yet, but something that brings in viewers in a more collaborative and exciting way (and not so one-way, I'm the expert), and is addictive (i.e., like when a co. comes out with the killer app that keeps you going back again and again). We'll see what comes in the future...

I spend way too much time on Saturdays watching cfb to waste more time in the morning watching idiots talk about it and churn out low energy talking points.
I think this is really the best policy. I find I get way more from podcasts or reading online compared to watching those shows. I think at this point even if they overhauled the panel I probably wouldn't tune in.
