Day sucks, yet he’s undefeated against us…..
So was John Cooper, that doesn't matter to OSU fans. And they know that the game was basically handed to them by ND's incompetence anyway.Day sucks, yet he’s undefeated against us…..
I'm sure they're having trouble sleeping at night about it...So was John Cooper, that doesn't matter to OSU fans. And they know that the game was basically handed to them by ND's incompetence anyway.
So is Arnold in the portal? Wouldn't that be tampering if he's not
Tampering isn't something the NCAA does anything about. So is Arnold in the portal? Wouldn't that be tampering if he's not
If they did,ND would be screwed lolTampering isn't something the NCAA does anything about.
Exactly what I was thinking? So is Arnold in the portal? Wouldn't that be tampering if he's not
I'm not sure. They gave John Cooper a lot of time under a different administration in a different era. I don't know that Day is going to receive the benefit of the doubt in the era we are now in. Especially is he continues to do what Cooper did and what both Tressel and Meyer did not: lose to Michigan.Ohio State isn't firing a coach that's gone 56-8 in his career there
At least 50-50 odds Michigan has a different coach a month from now though, and the NCAA investigation is still looming. Day's position could improve considerably without Ohio State doing a thing.I'm not sure. They gave John Cooper a lot of time under a different administration in a different era. Kiffin seems to have sociopathic tendencies that so many successful coaches today have. That's what it is going to take over what is quite clearly a very enabled Jim Harbaugh Michigan program. Harbaugh is getting Michigan the results they have long desired, Meyer is gone and they're going to tolerate him until those results stop. Ohio State needs to stay ahead of the curve. I'm sure plenty of programs would love to have Ryan Day and he'll land quite softly.
We'll see. To this point, they've been steadfast in standing in the faces of the Big Ten, NCAA and general public that he and they are the victims. It's Michigan. They're cunts. At least 50-50 odds Michigan has a different coach a month from now though, and the NCAA investigation is still looming. Either way, I have a hard time seeing Ohio State firing Day unless they know for sure they can get someone better. Maybe they make DeBoer a lights-out offer to leave Washington or something, or there's an NFL guy who'd be interested. But it's not like there's an obvious candidate.
This, exactly. Outside of a no-brainer, grand-slam hire, OSU doesn’t actually need to find a replacement coach. Day’s tenure has coincided with Michigan’s ascendency — bad luck for Day. But, the OSU administration aren’t idiots, they know they have a guy that can recruit and win. Plus, they see what we see, the Michigan train is likely to derail in the very near future. At least 50-50 odds Michigan has a different coach a month from now though, and the NCAA investigation is still looming. I think they should also take into account how close the margins were with Meyer and Harbaugh along with the margins now with Day and Harbaugh. You're looking a few games that came down to the wire and less than a handful of plays that ultimately determined the outcome of many of them. Plus you have the advantage that Harbaugh had on Day in Stalions. This, exactly. Outside of a no-brainer, grand-slam hire, OSU doesn’t actually need to find a replacement coach. I could definitely see Day tiring of the OSU fanbase and moving to greener pastures. I doubt very much he would leave for a coordinator position, but he is prime for plucking for a HC position — especially at a desperate southern program, a la A&M with Jimbo. Perhaps a year from now Tennessee, LSU, or Florida back up the truck for him. If I’m Day, I think hard about a new opportunity. OSU fans are historically delusional, entitled, and obnoxious — a coach like Day doesn’t need to put up with it, imo.I think they should also take into account how close the margins were with Meyer and Harbaugh along with the margins now with Day and Harbaugh. At Ohio State, you have to beat Michigan. Two wins against Notre Dame have a very small fraction of the value beating Michigan does, which I think states the obvious.
Patience in not a virtue in this business, and the more he continues to lose to Michigan and come up empty without some kind of trophy the more difficult it's going to be for him. He could well leave on his own terms. If I'm plucking an OC to the NFL, I'm taking Ryan Day before Dan Mullen or someone like him very easily without thinking twice.
Clearly. And I don't think a parting of ways would be Michigan's decision. But if Harbaugh's heart was in staying he'd have signed the extension they've been throwing at him. And he's got to know how much talent is walking out the door after this season. Meantime there is the possibility of NCAA sanctions so severe that him staying on as head coach is untenable. We'll see. To this point, they've been steadfast in standing in the faces of the Big Ten, NCAA and general public that he and they are the victims. It's Michigan. They're cunts.
As for Day, the pressure has to be mounting because 11-2 seasons were not the norm for the two decades that came before him. If the angst begins to show itself in a drop in revenue, he's done. He's lost 8 games already. Meyer lost 9 during his tenure. Hell, Tressel lost 22 games and finished outside of the top ten once. It's the kind of thing that spoils fan bases, alumni, boards and once they get used to it the mind begins to become irrational. They don't want to go back to John Cooper because, and some of the people's feelings about Florida State due to 1993 prove this, fan bases live in the past be it good or bad.
He recruits well, has good assistants, has the brand and financial backing of a big program. He just has to stop losing his mind against Michigan. Regardless of who is coach.
There is going to be some NFL owner with too much money and time but not nearly enough sense that will hire Harbaugh and give him total control of the football team. A Super Bowl will need to be won before he wears out his welcome among everyone else in the organization, which is his way.Clearly. And I don't think a parting of ways would be Michigan's decision. As for Day, agree that next year's a big one for him. If he doesn't win the Big Ten and advance at least a round or two in the playoffs, all involved will be restless. And to Ohio's point maybe someone else makes him an offer that's ultimately better for all involved.
Yet so many of them are being taken away now due to realignment. I mean, UCLA and USC in the context of the Big Ten and TAMU vs Texas is back but in the context of the SEC. FSU vs Miami isn't near what it was 20 years ago or in the 80s and 90s.College football isn't the NFL. Rivalry games matter, recruiting battles matter, the coaches personality matters....

Some reading online and listening to The Fan here in Columbus, I may be wrong but it seems like they may not have the money to compete in the portal. Don’t know if this is true or not but it would seem to go along with some of their players transferring out/ not able to get some players to come in.

I don’t know if it’s true but if so, that has to be discontent with Ryan Day.If OSU doesn't have the money to compete then there's only 3 or 4 schools who can.

Isn’t Mickey Marotti still the S&C coach?![]()
Ohio State player gets a little too candid as podcast interview gets quietly deleted
Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Carson Hinzman appears to have gotten a little too candid in a recent podcast interview.awfulannouncing.com
TLDR:
OL for OSU goes off the script during a podcast. Highlights include:
-they didn’t practice at all for the Cotton Bowl, and instead did “light workouts”
-OSU doesn’t pay players anything remotely
close to other schools, OL don’t get anything
-Urban’s culture and S&C was superior in every way to Day’s culture (guy wasn’t on any Urban teams, so guess he was just going with hearsay)
