Wednesday, March 09, 2011 Updated: Friday, April 22, 2011

By Izzy Gould/Tuscaloosa Bureau, The Birmingham News, Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times al.com

TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama transfer Aaron Douglas pleaded guilty Friday to DUI on Friday according to The Daily Times in Tennessee.
Douglas will have to serve 48 hours in jail before serving the rest of his sentence of 11 months, 29 days on supervised probation, the paper reported.
Douglas, 21, was pulled over in December after he ran a stop sign and was witnessed driving erratically, according to a police report. He refused a blood alcohol test.
...
Saban said in December about the incident, "We have ways to deal with that internally."

Very sad. This kid obviously had some issues but had so much potential that will never be reached.

Thoughts and prayers to the family...no matter the circumstances, it is tragic.

Hope the team heals quickly as well...we all have seen the impact of losing someone like this...and it matters little they didn't get to fight along side him...he was still one of theirs, and it still hurts...

Terrible. Just terrible.

There's also outrage over ESPN's original article regarding the matter:

And the full article captured via Twitpic: @Nastinchka They expand on it in the "story" and it... on Twitpic

Nice find...but my response is a big Ugh, with a hand to the forehead.

At the risk of pissing off folks on the "you know what bugs me" thread...

ESPN Bugs me...there ya go!

...quality control over what actually gets out there is gone...you can't have QC and compete with the instant forms of communication out there like blogs and twitter...still I'd hoped ESPN would remain aloof to that info space and be the big boys they should be...not really the case.

It's always a sad day when a young man like this loses his life. Seems like there are a lot of people who will dearly miss him.

Someone at ESPN should be fired for that. Do they not have proof readers?

I generally like ESPN.

If that shot is accurate and not doctored, that's simply awful.

Thoughts go out to Alabama in these tough times.

It's accurate, I saw it before they yanked it. They have also issued an apology, which is ironically only available for "Insiders". Eff those guys.

Reading this title is instantly saddening. Prayers to the school, but much more importantly the family.

Don't dump on the poor proofreaders. It's generally not in their job description to comment on content. They are the equivalent of of the "Grammar Police." It is their job to ferret out misspellings, errors in sentence structure, punctuation and the like.

This one falls directly on the shoulders of the writer and editor. Opinion and speculation on the possible effects on the lineup of this tragedy had no place in the article.

I'd go after the editor first.

I really don't care who gets canned for it, but why couldn't a proof-reader make mention to the obvious poor taste? I mean, if they are well versed in grammar and structure, then why is it above their pay grade to make mention of the obvious poor taste that it took on? But I see your point, an editor should be giving a final "pass" on all articles. The reality is that I doubt it went to an editor or proof reader. With today's social media aspect of journalism, more and more articles are being written like tweets. It is quite sad really.

Agreed. I'm coming from the perspective of one of my sisters who spent a few years as a proofreader at a magazine in New York. She could comment till she was blue in the face but it didn't mean bubkis and was often told to "just do your job."

The writer should never have put the commentary in the article and the editor should have deleted it ... especially in the header of the article.

Off with their heads!
